The Management of Wasiyyah from Islamic Perspective
1.0 Introduction
Wasiyyah(wills) from the word of ‘wassa’ which means to order, advise, promise or give away property after death. According to Shafie scholars, it is originated from the adjective of “wassa” which means connecting or delivering. In other words, it connects or delivers someone good act during his lifetime to be rewarded later after his death. Plus, Syafie Scholars also stated a will is the granting of a right which is implemented after the death of the testator whether it verbally or otherwise. According to Abdul Karim Zaydan, he stated that a will is to grant ownership to someone voluntarily after the death of the testator in terms of possessions or benefits. In the Section 2 of the Muslims Wills Enactment of Selangor 1999, it stated the wasiyyah a vow made at the time of a person’s lifetime on property or benefits for a charitable purpose or for any purpose that is allowed by the Islamic law, after his death. In other words, wassiyah also can be explained by a gift to another party, either in the form of goods, debts or benefits, to be owned by the recipient after the death of the testator.

The amendments in this Accounting Standards Update improve financial reporting by eliminating the exceptions for qualifying special-purpose entities from the consolidation guidance and the exception that permitted sale accounting for certain mortgage securitizations when a transferor has not surrendered control over the transferred financial assets. In addition, the amendments require enhanced disclosures about the risks that a transferor continues to be exposed to because of its continuing involvement in transferred financial assets. Comparability and consistency in accounting for transferred financial assets will also be improved through clarifications of the requirements for isolation and limitations on portions of financial assets that are eligible for sale accounting.

Islam is a very practical and comprehensive religion that teaches the individual to think and reflect by observing the world around him. Islam, being a monotheistic religion, proclaims that there is only one God and he has no partners. Muslims worship Allah in all their thoughts and actions. The message of Islam was appealing due to the fact that it allowed Jews, Christians, and other religions entities to worship freely without fear of retribution or forced conversion. In fact, up to about 100 years after Muhammad the Prophet died, conversion to Islam was frowned and was reserved for Arabs only. Islam learned how to manage and flourish as an economic and social power. The establishment of caravan routes and shipping lanes were used as arteries of intellectual and economic exchange throughout the dar al-Islam, or “House of Islam”.1(Daily Life in the Medieval Islamic World Loc 1891) At the heart of this unprecedented rise to success, in its expansiveness and pace, is Muhammad. A calculated, tactical, and forgiving man believed to be the conduit to God, a God that he preached was the one and only. During the time of Muhammad both Persia and Byzantium were in a decline due to a series of debilitating wars with one another.(MAPOOT loc 298) Now, while I will not go into depth about this topic, as it would deserve focus on those particular dynasties, it is certainly crucial to state. It was the message of equality, cohesion, and harmony that Muhammad brought to Arabia, through God, along with trade and business practices, which allowed Islam to shape and mold its message and its influences across vast time and place.

Muslim, ever wonder what this word really means? Who is classified as Muslim? Someone that is Muslim is not a terrorist, nor a bad person. They are humans. Someone that is a Muslim only has an Islamic belief. This word originated in Arabia where this whole culture developed (BBC “Islam”). Islam followers, or Muslims, were introduced to their culture from the Prophet Muhammad (BBC “Islam”). The word Islam comes up very often, but who knows what it means? It is said to be the “submission to the will of God (BBC “Islam”).” Majority of the U.S. population today see Muslims as bad people only because a certain group attacked the United States. We, as a whole, discriminate today towards Muslims and any human with an Islamic background.
