Magic tricks have fascinated people of all ages for centuries. From David Copperfield to Chris Angel, many performers use magic to amaze and astound. One of the least elaborate types of magic tricks is the card trick. There are two main types of card tricks: there are mathematical card tricks and sleight of hand card tricks. The former are simple to learn, but do not impress audiences. To really attract attention, an aspiring magician should learn sleight of hand card tricks. Sleight of hand card tricks are tricks that use misdirection and special manipulations of a deck of cards to do something seemingly impossible. The techniques involved require much practice. While performing a sleight of hand trick, a magician must constantly be distracting the audience. Because of this, many people believe that they are not capable of learning sleight of hand magic. In order to prove them wrong, I will describe a simple sleight of hand trick that anyone can learn, as long as they remember that we all have the potential inside of us to do magic.
The first step is setting up the trick. In order to begin, the performer needs a deck of cards and an attentive audience. The audience can be any size, from one person, to a small group, to a full auditorium. Before performing the trick, it must be introduced in a compelling manner. This can be done in one of several ways. One approach is to ask “Do you believe in magic?” Some people will be skeptical, and they will have a “prove it” attitude. Others will say that they believe in magic, and they will revel in the opportunity to experience a moment of validation for their occult beliefs. No matter what is said, once the trick is introduced, it should be something the audience i...

...ill look in amazement at their card, at the magician, at the deck, and back at their card, while their jaw is hanging open. The magic trick is then complete.
As this magic trick demonstrates, sleight of hand magic does not have to be hard. With a few simple techniques and a little misdirection, any aspiring magician can amaze an audience. Although this trick takes practice to perfect, anyone can learn to do it in a very short time. Before long, the performer will be the center of attention, and will have people begging him to do the trick again. Unfortunately for the audience, a magician never reveals his secrets. In addition, the magician should not perform the trick a second time, because the audience will be looking for the methods behind the magic. People may doubt their ability to do a magic trick, but they must always remember: the magic is within.
In the memoir The Year of Magical Thinking, Joan Didion narrates her personal struggle of coping the realization of John being dead and will never resurrect to reunite with Joan. Joan exerts many sorrowful expressions as medical information and the vortex effects instill a sense of anticipation that John will soon come back. Consequently, Didion’s hopefulness opaques her true identity as she still associates herself as a married woman, when in reality, she needs to move on from John to reestablish her extroverted personality to the world once again. On the contrary, Didion comes to a consensus that John’s death was inevitable, Joan starts to ponder about her future with the exclusion of John. With Joan grieving
“A nice warm shower, a cup of tea, and a caring ear may be all you need to warm your heart”. Charles Glassman’s quote was exemplified beautifully in the poem “Common Magic” by Bronwen Wallace. The piece took readers through a series of everyday events, explaining how each seemingly meaningless moment contained it’s own kind of magic. Through the use of oxymoron, imagery and characters, Wallace developed the theme that simple pleasures are fleeting and a fulfilled life involves t`21aking time to appreciate everything.

In the magic of the mind author Dr. Elizabeth loftus explains how a witness’s perception of an accident or crime is not always correct because people's memories are often imperfect. “Are we aware of our minds distortions of our past experiences? In most cases, the answer is no.” our minds can change the way we remember what we have seen or heard without realizing it uncertain witnesses “often identify the person who best matches recollection
Long after Houdini’s death, people have loved his magic shows and have been fascinated by his great escapes. Many magicians now idolize him, such as David Copperfield. When we think of magic today, our minds usually go to Houdini rather than the great magicians we have today. This is, of course, because Houdini shaped the history of magic throughout the world. He was one of the world's first most memorable magicians that we will all treasure for, hopefully,
Witchcraft is said to be the most widespread cultural phenomenon in existence today and throughout history. Even those who shun the ideas of witchcraft cannot discount the similarities in stories from all corners of the globe. Witchcraft and its ideas have spread across racial, religious, and language barriers from Asia to Africa to America. Primitive people from different areas in the world have shockingly similar accounts of witchcraft occurrences. In most cases the strange parallels cannot be explained and one is only left to assume that the tales hold some truth. Anthropologists say that many common elements about witchcraft are shared by different cultures in the world. Among these common elements are the physical characteristics and the activities of supposed witches. I will go on to highlight some of the witch characteristic parallels found in printed accounts from different parts of the world and their comparisons to some famous fairytales.
This story was set during the middle ages, in a small village and a forest.
In Both Grendel and Beowulf, there is conflict. The conflict is betwixt the themes of light and dark, Paganism vs. Christianity, and Man vs. Beast. Grendel, the main character in Grendel and the secondary character in Beowulf, faces external battles but the most important battle take place internally. John Gardener recognized the basis for Grendel’s predicament which is “his [Grendel] stubborn cling to skepticism and cold, hard reason. . .” (Grendel’s Geis). Though there are many different themes present in both stories, there is one theme that remains consistent throughout out both. This theme is the lack of acceptance. Grendel’s in-acceptance is rooted in his lack of understanding of the world and its functions. As a result of the many things that have taken place in Grendel’s life, he is perceived as evil yet, not because he wants to be. He is misunderstood and not accepted. Much of Grendel’s evil wrongdoing comes as a result of lack of acceptance, lack of communication, and his ignorance.

Harry Houdini was famous because of his outstanding use as a magician. Harry had created and performed magic tricks that were new and still not yet proven possible to mankind. One of Harry’s tricks were the straight jacket escape, but that trick was just a starter. Before each show he would have his feet shackled and he would be raised in the air and he then would get out of the straight jacket. When he performed this thousands of people would gather around, he has had crowds of 30-50 thousand showing up before his show. Later that day he would performed and he would have a full audience prepared to be amazed.

We have seen magic as a form of entertainment, from making someone disappear, to sawing a girl in half. But all great illusions have an explanation. “Magic, as we have seen, is about power- a seemingly magical power used and expressed by a skilled actor to create the illusion of miraculous happenings’. But the most mysterious part of magic is how these miraculous happenings are performed. The real power of magic lies within the native effects themselves (Blackstone, 117).
