The Lust for Murder Emotions get the best of everyone in stressful situations, but what about those without any emotions to spare? The media glamorizes murders and serial killers by making them the spotlight of movies, shows and novels. What readers and viewers often forget is that these people are real and have resided on the same street that their kids ride bikes on. The people that commit these horrendous crimes are often known as sociopaths. Not all sociopaths become serial killers, but the combination of abusive childhood, environment and genetic influences pushes them to repeatedly kill and take innocent lives. Peoples ideal definitions of a sociopath often mislead them. A sociopath is classified as a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior and a lack of conscience.Sociopaths are not as uncommon as most people think Your average neighbor may even have the urge to kill and dismember bodies. This being said, not all sociopaths take the leap to murder and often keep their thoughts to themselves . Sociopaths have completely different personality traits and characteristics than the normal human being. They often have disregard for the rights of others, failure to feel remorse or guilt and even tendency to display violent behavior and emotional outbursts. Even with these obvious characteristics some people keep their sociopathic tendencies hidden in shame or guilt of these feelings, but the people that embrace their sociopathy are some of the most well known American serial killers to this day. One of the prime examples of a young sociopath turned murderer is one of America’s most glorified and famous serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer. Dahmer, also known as The... ... middle of paper ... ...s and reform school throughout his young childhood. Manson never lived a normal childhood and was molded into a cold sociopath at the beginning of his birth. By the age of nine Manson was already convicted of stealing and grand theft auto. As Manson grew older he committed some felonies which landed him in jail, but he was released after a short while. In 1967 Manson travelled to San Francisco where he met a group of hippies he soon became friends with. They formed a band called the Manson Family and began to travel the country. Manson had developed a racist attitude and believed that black people were “evil”. Manson then went on to brainwash the impressionable young girls and told them that they could find eutopia through a cave underneath Death Valley where they could stay until black people, due to their innate inferiority, relinquished their power.
In September 1959, Manson pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to cash a forged treasury check, which he claimed to have stolen from a mailbox in town. He received a 10 year sentence and probation after a young woman with an arrest record for prostitution made a plea for the court which she stated that her and Manson were deeply in love .Before the year ended, the prostitute did marry Manson.
As a child he was sent to many reform schools. He has spent the last four decades behind bars. He will never get out prison. He will eventually die in prison. This is the life of Charles Manson. Charles Manson is a sick and cruel criminal.
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a sociopath as someone who behaves in a dangerous or violent way towards other people and does not feel guilty about such behavior. Sociopaths lack a conscience that allows people to decipher between right and wrong. In A Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe, the narrator, Montresor, is believed to be a sociopath by many. He kills his friend, Fortunado, after he literally adds insult to a thousand of injuries. Though what the insult was and the previous injuries were never revealed to the reader, it could be assumed that Montresor probably overreacted to the Fortunado’s insult. But in order to answer this question the evaluation upon his motivation, strategy, and Montresor’s feeling and emotion towards
Neglect during his childhood, most certainly affected Charles Manson and contributed to the monster he became. A biography of Charles states that his mother didn’t want anything to do with him so he lived on the streets committing minor crimes (“Charles Manson Biography”). Charles’s mother robbed him of a normal childhood with a loving family. Reports on Manson stated that he was “suffering from a ‘marked degree of rejection, instability, and psychic trauma’” (“Charles Manson Biography”). Charles later married a 17 year old woman who left him for another man due to his return to prison (“Charles Manson Biography”). Once again, Charles was abandoned by someone he loved. After his time in jail, Manson obsessed over cult-quasi-religious groups and he took on the role of a cult leader because he believed the world to be “doomed” (“Charles Manson Biography”). Charles then formed his cult from a group of unstable people. He persuaded his group to believe that he was of a higher power; therefore, they followed him like a god. The biography of Manson states that, “Manson himself took no part in the actual killings, but directed his murderous disciples to the address and instructed them to kill everyone (“Charles Manson Biography”). Charles’s background and past trauma led him to commit horrid acts. Like Charles, John Wayne Gacy also lived with an alcoholic parent. Gacy’...

(twisted mind). Manson’s grandmother was a very religious person believing that is true and that God would repay her for all the loss In her life, subjecting him bouts of strict ideological religious beliefs, It was from this multiple accounts of rejection and emotional turmoil that the young Manson developed his own personal philosophy. Based on what Manson's family and childhood acquaintances have said about him, it was clear from the start that he was different even as a child. Things he did in elementary school gave a hint of what his later life would consist of and how he planned on living. While in elementary school, Charlie would recruit gullible classmates to do his dirty work, such as attack other students that he didn't like. He would swear that he had nothing to do with it, that they were just doing what they wanted because no one thought that he was capable of being so
Charles Manson proved to be a charismatic leader who led his followers to commit heinous acts. In Manson: 40 Years Later, Linda Kasabian and other members of The Family talk about how their whole situation began. Manson took individuals who were young and vulnerable, and he brought them into an environment where they felt safe. He made them feel special by giving them certain tasks and complimenting them, which caused his followers to like and trust him. Because the Family consistently
After Manson was released from prison 1967 He and his cult moved to San Francisco as while as a deserted ranch in the San Fernando Valley. Manson’s followers also had a group of young women that began to believe his claims that he was Jesus and believed his prophecies of a race war. The Manson Family including Charles Manson is thought to have carried out some 35 killings. Most of their cases were never tried though, either for lack of evidence or because they were already sentenced to life for the Tate and LaBianca
At one point, he wrote a song that would later become stolen from him by Dennis Wilson and famous by the Beach Boys called, “Never Learned Not to Love.” This more likely than not, caused him great pain and incredible rage. He wanted to be famous for his music, and for it to be taken from him could have possibly began his prejudice attitude towards Hollywood and famous celebrities. Prejudice is the preconceived negative judgement of a group and its individual members. His prejudice only grew towards those like Sharon Tate, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and other incredibly famous people of that time. Manson and his family didn’t personally known Tate, but during the sixties she was the pinnacle of success for any young, and beautiful actress. She was also pregnant and married to, another famous celebrity, filmmaker Roman Polanski. I believe because of that, she also became a source of hate for Manson. Charles Manson probably believed that famous people were the cause of his lack of greatness, which ignited such hatred in him. It is very possible that he was an insecure man who felt that he needed constant recognition by many. It could be that he believed he was this higher power and everyone should love and worship him, and when that didn’t happen his immense animosity for those he admired only
Charles Manson's twisted history began when he was just a boy, being tossed around in foster homes and in all boys schools, he eventually rebelled and at the age of nine burnt down a school. Influenced by his uncles quote "we are all just rebels, rebels till the end of time" he stuck to that growing up, stealing and vandalizing by the age of thirteen. Now as a juvenile he was in and out of jail, much like his foster homes. With such anger built up towards his mother, Manson said his mother only showed him how much she resented him. Current history, Manson is 83 and won't be eligible for parole till he is 95. Manson passed away on December 19, 2017, leaving behind his legacy and broken
In spite of the atrocious legacy of Manson, he remains on a level of high notoriety. “Step back a little far back in time, and see a red flag raise with the Nazi swastika on it. How did he manage to convince a whole country to do what he said? You go to Japan, around the same time period; they believed their emperor, Akihito, was a living reincarnation of God,” Lloyd compares the many malicious infamous leaders in history and their mechanisms of gaining a following to Manson. He goes on to say:
pair of clothes, a knife, and her driver's licence. Without question Linda gathered the items up from inside the house and made her way toward the car. The car was an old yellow and white, four- door Ford without a back seat, just a floorboard. Linda has become a loyal follower of Manson ever since she moved to Los Angeles in 1968. She first met Charles through Catherine Share (another follower of manson). Inside the car were the two other followers of Manson. Patricia Krenwinkel, a young woman who first encountered manson at a nearby house when she was living with her sister Catherine (a known drug addict). Inside the car was also Susan Atkins, a young women who met Manson in late 1967, and has been a loyal disciple ever since. As Linda made her way to the vehicle Tex ceased his conversation with Charles by the driver side door and
At the time, San Francisco was full of young people using drugs and were heavily into the hippie culture. Manson had finally found a place where he fit in. He even became popular for his idea of a utopian society and his alternative visions of good and evil. He met Mary Brunner, and she would become the mother of his third child. Her beliefs of saving the earth was appealing to many young people. They, together, gained a small following of teens (Petersen, 2005). Most of these teens were socially awkward and had trouble fitting in. They looked up to him for guidance (Malt Schneiderman, 2013). Manson became friends with the founding member of the Beach Boys, Dennis Wilson. Manson and his eleven followers now lived with Dennis Wilson, and over the next few months that number doubled. His followers made themselves part of the household, and Wilson would sing and write songs with Manson. Wilson introduced Manson to some of his entertainment business friends. In August 1968, Manson and his followers left and settled at the Spahn Movie Ranch, an old set for movie and TV westerns. Manson would have his female followers to have sex with the owner for the family’s rent (Charles, 2014). Manson’s family was now becoming a cult. The culture of the ranch was heavily influenced by drugs. His followers even claimed that he had psychic connections with them, and he made them feel special. Charles Manson began to
Every single one of us has a fear of something. For some, it’s of heights. For others, it’s of spiders. But if we were to admit the one thing that all of us were scared of at one point of our lives, it would have to be the universal serial killer. One person who we bring to mind when we hear “serial killer” is Charles Manson. With the brutal murders he committed of nine celebrities and famous “insane eyes” he is known for, Charles Manson is clearly a man of violence. These “insane eyes”, however, weren’t always there on Manson’s face. There is a reason why certain people choose to take different, more violent paths than others, and this reason lies in their backgrounds and the dominance of nurture.
When people hear the words Psychopathy and Sociopathy, they normally think of serial killers like Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer, but these mental occurrences are much bigger than just serial killers. Both of these mental disorders Psychopathy and Sociopathy are mental disorders that most people have heard of, but do not know much about either disorder. There are many misconceptions of both of these disorders, because these are portrayed as dangerous in everyday life. They are seen as evil and violent, but that is not always the case. They tend to just be different but we think of them is bad because that is what we hear about on the news and from Hollywood. We see these people as serial killers and violent people, but that is not always the case. People tend to confuse these two disorders or use them interchangeably, but there is a difference between the two even though they share a great number of qualities.
