Walker Percys essay, “The Loss of the Creature” argues the experiences that each person goes through as either an authentic experience handle by personal desires, or one that is already an idea on their minds of a single out situation, place, or thing trough experts such as in media and if that image does not match what the spectator had in mind, then the spectator is disappointed and left feeling as after all their time and money was wasted. The essay starts with the Grand Canyon, Percy points out that the Grand Canyon is nothing as it used to be or how the person that discovered eyewitness it for the first time. From turning the grand canyon basically government property and revealed

as popular and profitable, when the spectator views the Canyon it isn’t the sovereign discovery ,instead it is symbolic complex created.
I relate with the writer in one of his examples when he states“It is now apparent that as between the many measures which may be taken to overcome the opacity, the boredom, of the direct confrontation of the thing or creature in its citadel of symbolic investiture, some are less authentic than others”.( percys’) I believe that creating a symbolic complex has happen to all of us at some point in our lives.

I went on a trip to Mexico City with some friends. The cause of the trip was to know the city obviously, but more than anything to go see a soccer game at the Azteca Stadium. Something that I always wanted to do since i was a little boy, it was the home of my Aztec warriors. Since the very first time till now ,watching games on television was the most common ,however i enjoy watching them on the Azteca stadium .Via television looked like a beast, no wonder why is on the list of the biggest stadiums in the world . I was thrilled to see so many people on the stands ,some happy and angry as well as other emotions that were transmitted outside of the glass of the television. Listening to the whizzle at the beginning of each match and watching the ball get a kick star in the green grass. And of course no one can forget about the man that sells the churros and other good mexican candies , it make the game even more satisfying. Recalling all of this within minutes of entering the stadium ready to enjoy the match between Mexico and the

United States, my friends and I, anxious to get in as well as being worried a bit of the tremendous traffic to park the car, taking into account that we took perfect timing to evate situations like this .After a long wait and cranky attitudes, we found a way to park.

When we entered the stadium we had missed the ceremony of the game, but we wouldn't let that affect us because we thought that everything would be better.Already seated in our row i took a moment to appreciate the stadium, since it was something i always wanted to attend .I took me by surprise that it was nothing like i’ve seen on television, the stadium looked very small and not well maintained and as well as the grass where my team was playing.It was everything that i needed to kill the perfect image

that i had kept in my mind for so long.To make it even worse some guys started a fight on the row behind us. Within minutes on the clock for the match to end , my mind started to remember all the great things people told me of their experiences and what I have seen on television. With a few minutes for the game to be over ,me and my friends started to walk out of the stadium, and of all i could think of was the unsatisfactory sensation that it was coming to the stadium and despite the fact that Mexico won the game.it as quite a mediocre game, there were fights,consumption was too expensive and for the stadium be one of the largest and most visited in the world It was unmaintained . I left with an unpleasant image and not excited to return in early future but it also let me thinking on a future remodel stadium and my mind would continue that process of symbolic complex.
People can only have a true experience of something if they can get rid of all the social biases and prejudices, and experience it by ignoring everything one has already heard about it,when percy states“society—a society, that is, in which there is a division between expert and layman, planner and consumer, in which experts and planners take special measures to teach and edify the consumer”.(percy) an example that i got from what the writer stated relates with the advancements of technology has created a kind of virtual satisfaction, you could search in the internet or social networks and see cities, concerts, parks, clothes, or basically everything that we have always imagined to visit or have, of course I am the people who prefer to be present, to see it with my own eyes ,without being told how it us or just to leave it in the imagination but when you are to fulfill it, when it ceases to be an idea, a virtual or counted joy, you encounter your prejudiced and full of expectations mind,that is why is better to go without expectations, to really enjoy it to see more than the typical expectations shown by the experts, to appreciate it with your own eyes and take a picture with you mind and not a camera.
