In the novel, Lord of the Flies, there’s a plane crash which leaves a group of young boys stranded on a deserted island. There’s a continous pattern of leadership versus rebellion, following the rules and anarchy, life and death. The few main characters we know the names of here are Ralph, Piggy, Jack, Simon, Roger, Sam, Eric, Johnny, Bill, Maurice, and the Lord of the Flies himself. The book is a rollercoaster of fighting to get off of this island whether you’re dead or alive. Being able to survive in this enviornment was extremely difficult without a leader. An assembly was called to elect someone to be the head of their “tribe”. When a vote had been taken, the majority of the boys had chosen Ralph as leader versus Jack as the leader of a hunting pack. “Every hand outside the choir except Piggy’s was raised …show more content…

When certain things were spoken about that he simply didn’t enjoy, he’d cut in or leave the conversation. “‘You could have had everyone when the shelters were finished. But you had to hunt--’ ‘We needed meat.’” (Golding 71). Jack is usually interjecting when it isn’t his time to have spoken. Because he led the hunting tribe, Jack had shown no mercy when it came down to his actions. He would treat people rudely, viciously murder for his meat, and not care about whom lived or survived. Jack had no friends on the island. He simply needs himself. It’s not quite 100% true, but he seems to think so. Jack’s living style seems to be an ‘every man for himself’ typed motto. Ralph, however, liked to know that everything was taken care of. When a task wasn’t handled the correct way or not at all, he would take it up with whoever is responsible. “There was a ship. Out there. You said you’d keep the fire going and you let it out!” (Golding 70). Ralph knew then not to trust Jack with such important acts of leadership because he allowed something that led to their rescue surpass over his own selfish
