I picked The Longest Ride as my movie to show examples of Luke Collins and Sophia Danko in relationship stages because I recently watched the movie and remembered it having a good story, building up a relationship, but also having problems and breaking up. This movie does an excellent job showing the first four stages: initiating, experimenting, intensifying, and integration. On the other hand the last four stage: differentiating, circumscribing, stagnating, and terminating, was a little more challenging, in account of them experiencing a break up and then eventually getting back together quickly. One of the first scenes of the movie was an example of the first stage, initiating. After Luke Collins rode a bull for the complete eight seconds, he was chased by him. Sophia plans on moving to New York in a couple months and Luke doesn’t know how they are going to make it work. He says it’s not like he can move there, they don’t have bull riding. After realizing this, they move into the circumscribing stage. They don’t talk for a while, but Luke’s mom tells him that bull riding is eight seconds and Sophia could be for the rest of his life. As he wins competitions he realizes he doesn’t have anyone there to support him. They couple only had the stage, stagnating for a short time before he realized he needed her in his life. The couple was in the terminating stage, when earlier in the story, Sophia told Luke he needed to stop riding because of his health conditions. He didn’t listen, got mad, and broke up with her because he says that was his life. After realized that she was more important than the eight seconds on the bull, he went to the auction he knew she was at. This auction was very important to her and they made up and lived a happy
