Little Red Riding Hood summary The alternative and so-called politically correct version of the Little Red Riding Hood starts with the well know beginning. She goes to her grandma, who is in this version not sick but fully capable of taking care of herself as a mature adult. She decides to go through forest, what people think its frightening and foreboding. However she is confident enough in her budding sexuality to do not pay attention to those prejudices. In the wood she meets with the wolf. After they split up, the wolf heads towards the Red Riding Hoods destination and there he eats her grandma.

The Princess and the Goblin is a story about self-realisation and the expansion of limits. The princess, Irene, is able to come to certain conclusions about herself with the help of her grandmother, who lives in the attic upstairs in the palace. The grandmother guides Irene through her rite of passage into adulthood, and helps to bring the princess and Curdie together in the end. However, the reader never really knows whether the grandmother even exists, and it is this uncertainty that causes the reader to question whether she is a personification of a force within Irene that is driving her to achieve all that she does. There are many elements of fairy tales that exist within the grandmother's world and Irene's relationship with her grandmother and her nurse, Lootie. Archetypes such as the attic, birds, the moon, and fire exist within her grandmother's world and archetypes such as the underground exist within the world she guides Irene through. The grandmother embodies characteristics of the good witch with supernatural powers, who guides Irene on her journey, while Lootie embodies characteristics of a wicked witch, who hinders her right of passage into adulthood.
Little Red Riding Hood, by Paul Galdone is a children's book generally for early elementary reading level. It focuses on a young girl,Little Red Riding Hood, who was instructed by her mother to deliver cake and wine to her ill grandmother. According to the Oxford Student’s Dictionary, adulthood is associated with being “grown to full size or strength, mature” (Seuss.14). Then why is it presented in underlying ways, in works that are considered to be children’s texts? The assumption is that children’s texts are supposedly “childish” which means “ unsuitable for a grown person, silly and immature” (pg.172). However, while studying Dr. Seuss’ The Cat In The Hat, Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, “The Story of Grandmother”, Charles Perrault’s “Little Red Riding Hood” and Brothers Grimm “Little Red Cap” and “Snow White”, it was evident that adulthood was both reinforced and subverted through the use of literary and narrative techniques.

These are the first three lines of Nalo Hopkinson's fairy tale “Riding the Red”, a modern adaptation of Charles Perrault's “Little Red Riding Hood”. Perrault provided a moral to his fairy tales, the one from this one is to prevent girls from men's nature. In Hopkinson's adaptation, the goal remains the same: through the grandmother biographic narration, the author advances a revisited but still effective moral: beware of wolfs even though they seem innocent.
Robert Darnton starts The Great Cat Massacre with a rather repulsive version of Little Red Riding Hood. There are many similarities and differences between the stories of Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks and the circumstances that each found themselves in. In each story both girls were walking in the woods, one, Little Red Riding Hood was on her way to deliver some cake to her grandmother, and two, Goldilocks was walking in the woods and stumbled upon a house. But that is were the similarities end, one found that her grandmother’s house had been burglarized and the other burglarized a house.
Folktales are a way to represent situations analyzing different prospects about gender, through the stories that contribute with the reality of the culture in which they develop while these provide ideas about the behavior and roles of a specific sex building a culture of womanhood, manhood and childhood. This is what the stories of Little Red Riding Hood of Charles Perrault (1697) and Little Red-Cap of the Grimm Brothers (1812) show. This essay will describe some ideas about gender in different ways. First, the use of symbolic characters allows getting general ideas about the environment in the society rather than individuals. Second, it is possible to identify ideas about gender from the plot from the applied vocabulary providing a better understanding of the actions. Finally, the narrative perspective of the tales analyzes deeply the status of the characters referring to the thoughts among the society.
The first significant difference is in the plot of Roald Dahl’s poem. Taken out completely is the Wolf encounter with Little Red Riding Hood in the woods. Instead of the Wolf cunningly getting information on the whereabouts of grandmother’s house from Little Red Riding Hood, in Dahl’s poem the “Wolf began to feel / That he would like a decent meal, / He went and knocked on Grandma’s door” (Dahl Lines 1-3). The first couple of lines in Dahl’s poem don’t begin focusing on Little Red Riding Hood the way Perrault’s short story does, but instead these lines aim the attention of the poem on the Wolf by beginning with his primary actions and feelings. Along with this absence of plot and shift in focus, Roald Dahl deviates from Perrault’s short story again during Little Red Riding Hood’s encounter with the Wolf in grandmother’s house. Roald Dahl includes the beginning dialogue of questioning between Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf that was originally present in Perrault’s work. However, as this repetition of dialogue goes on, there are significant differences in Roald Dahl’s poem. Instead of carrying on the same questioning dialogue, Little Red Riding Hood says, “but Grandma, / what a lovely great big furry coat you have on” (Dahl Line 39), to then what Dahl answers, “That’s
“Little Red Cap” quickly became a household tale among children and adults, due to the imperative lessons that it directs to children and their parents'. Behind the initial story lies a message which, ”Cautions young girls to mind their mothers and not stray from the path to wander in the forbidden woods” (Rholetter). The forest represents any unfamiliar place that children can easily become lost within, while the path to grandmother’s house can represent a place the child is accustomed to. As soon as Little Red Cap begins her journey, she is confronted by a wolf. When they first meet, the wolf acts as a polite gentleman would towards any young lady which earns Little Red Cap’s trust instantly, "Little Red Cap, just where does your grandmother live? said the Wolf. Little Red Cap eagerly replied, Her house is a good quarter hour from here in the woods, under the three large oak trees. There's a hedge of hazel bushes there. You must know the place”(Grimm). Comparing Little Red Riding Hood folktales is a multi tasks operation, which includes many elaborations on the many aspects of the story. Setting, plot, character origin, and motif are the few I chose to elaborate solely on. Although the versions vary, they all have the motif trickery, the characters all include some sort of villain with a heroin, the plot concludes all in the final destruction or cease of the villain to be, and, the setting and origins of the versions vary the most to where they are not comparable but only contrastable, if one can say that origins and settings are contrastable.
The stories ?Little Red Riding Hood,? by Charles Perrault, and ?Little Red Cap,? by the Brothers Grimm, are similar and different. Moreover, both stories differ from the American version. The stories have a similar moral at the end, each with a slight twist. This story, in each of its translations, is representative of a girl?s loss of innocence, her move from childhood or adolescence into adulthood. The way women are treated within each story is different. Little Red in the French version was eaten; whereas in the German version, she is rescued by the woodsman, and this further emphasizes the cultural differences.
Little Red Riding Hood is a famous folktale passed down through generations. The folktale was originally created to warn children of the dangers of talking to strangers. The story has later been recreated into a live action film with a very different twist. The movie differs from the folktale in that it revealed that the wolf may not be a stranger after all. Both pieces have significant similarities and differences between the plot itself and the characters within. Gender roles play a great deal to both stories suggesting male dominance and female submissiveness. Whether the character be good or bad gender must be taken into consideration.
Little Red Cap is the Brothers Grimm’s version of Charles Perrault’s original fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. The original is written as a moralistic story, in which ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ is eaten by the wolf, the moral being that children, particularly female, should not approach strangers. Feminist critics could argue that the original story is warning against curiosity and freedom. This is because in the original version Little Red Cap is told “not to run off the path” which implies she shouldn’t go beyond the social expectation of women. However, Duffy subverts the classic and as stated in her 2005 interview she “finds a truth which hadn’t been amplified previously”.
