The Lion King: Christianity and Leadership

The movie, “The Lion King” (1994) captured a historic sequence on a religious aspect bringing a message to different audiences. In this film of the “Lion King” the main character Simba in whom is a lion cub crowned prince, is mind tricked by Scar into thinking his responsible for his father's death. Simba takes action by growing apart from his loved ones. In that time of being independent he learns responsibilities as he ages. The filmmakers Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff merge leadership skills with the interpretation of Christianity in the film, where I will be presenting.

Simba’s father, Mufasa taught him leadership skills such as courage, confidence, passion and values. As a young cub, his followers require him to be an effective leader, and that's something that Simba is not aware of the qualities and attributes that come with the role. Simba created himself a vision, where he explained leadership as being better than others, in other words having more power and control. The young cub is concern on how the others will react about him taking his father’s place as a leader. He basically does not know himself yet. He needs to know his identity and that is where the young cub is lost. Simba understands the qualities and attributes his father, taught him ever since he had a vision of him asking Simba about his identity. He later throughout the film recognizes and accepts responsibility by returning back to Prideland to become what his father has taught him.

Conclusion:
Christianity and leadership took a big place in The Lion King film (1994) showing the audience different perspectives of religion and the role of a leader. Each character plays a role that supports leadership and interprets the religion side of it, as Jonathan Barfield said. Simba who learned to overcome his fears and find out his true self with his father’s help, made him an effective leader for his followers. Simba turn out to be a reflection of his father “Mufasa”, when he returned back to his land.
