The life of Tatanka Yotanka better known as Sitting Bull and the tragic events that led to his death will be discussed in this paper. Yotanka led a carefree life as a young boy with the Sioux tribe. He received early recognition from his tribe as a warrior and man of vision. During his youth he joined in the usual tribal raids for horses against traditional enemies such as the Crow and Assiniboin. This paper will explain the history behind Sitting Bull and how he grew into a warrior, a chief and how his life was tragically put to an end.
Yotanka was born in 1831 in the Grand River region of present-day South Dakota. Tatanka’s father did not at first name him Sitting Bull but rather Jumping Badger, which would be replaced with something more suitable at the appropriate time in his growth. “No one called the boy Jumping Badger, however, for his willful and deliberate ways earned him the nickname Hunkesni, or Slow.” Slow never hurried and did everything with care and therefore the name Slow was an appropriate name. While still a small child Slow learned to use a small boy’s bow hunting birds, rabbits, and other small animals. As he grew into a young man, he desired to prove himself to his people. At the young age of 10, he demonstrated both skill and courage when he killed his first buffalo. When Slow was 14, he was considered very young to join a war party. However, slow was very anxious for a chance to prove himself. The chance arrived when the rest of the party waited for the enemy to approach nearer, Slow quickly charged towards an enemy on his pony. The other tribe members changed their strategy and followed his lead. The enemy warriors were so shocked at the boldness of the attack that they began to retreat.
At the age of 15, Sitting Bull displayed great courage in a fight with the Flatheads in 1847. He galloped past their skirmish line, laughing and taunting them. In spite of the shower of arrows and the hail of Flathead bullets directed against him, Sitting Bull sustained only a minor foot wound. This display convinced all that not only was this young man courageous; his medicine was powerful as well.
Sitting Bull was a war chief in the Lakota tribe during the 1800s. He was born in 1831 at the Grand River in South Dakota. When he was a child, he was not called Sitting Bull. His name was Jumping Badger but everybody had called him ‘Slow’ at first because they believed that he lacked many skills. It wasn't until he was 14 when he fought in his first battle that they renamed him and started calling him Sitting Bull, like his father.

Sitting Bull is a Dakota Indian chief, of the Sioux tribes and also is a Warrior, Military Leader. Sitting Bull, born in 1831, Grand River, South Dakota. His parents’ names are, Jumping Bull (father) and (mother) Her-Holy-Door. He was named Jumping badger at birth. Although, he showed a lot bravery, courage of riding, which’d been witnessed by his tribe. Once he returned to his village, jumping bull celebrated a feast for his son. The name (Tatanka Iyotake), in the Lakota language means "Buffalo Bull Sits Down”, which was later shortened to “Sitting Bull”. At the ceremony before the whole tribe, also Sitting Bull's father presented him with an eagle feather to wear in his hair, a warrior's horse, and a hardened buffalo hide to set his son's journey into manhood. During the War in 1862, Sitting Bull's people weren’t involved, were coupled groups of eastern Dakota killed about 800 soldiers in Minnesota. In 1864, two large body of troop’s soldiers under General Alfred Sully attacked their village. The contest took a legal charge that was led by Sitting Bull and driven the Lakota and Dakota people out.

In October 19, 2009, Dr Hugh Wirth who is the RSPCA’s Victorian president renewed calls for American pit bull terriers to be bred out of Australia. The current laws require owners of pit bulls to register their pit bull. While some people are satisfied with the laws because they think that they are safe, others disagree. From my own perspective, the laws should be improved. The government should ban these fierce dogs and wipe them out instead of just registering them. In my opinion, there are three reasons why I am in favour of Dr Wirth’s proposal.

"The Bull Moose" is a poem by one of the great Canadian poets, Alden Nowlan. It is a finely crafted poem by a very talented poet. It reminds us how far away from Nature the lives of ordinary men and women have strayed. This is something common to all of us who live so much our lives in buildings and who so rarely experience Nature in its raw form. Like most Americans, I have spent many moments since the terrorist attacks of 9/11 trying to grasp both the acts themselves and the seemingly endless chain of depressing events following in their wake. Although many have rediscovered faith communities or a renewed social activism in their search for understanding, I have immersed myself in the lessons of Cherokee culture and history. This history teaches me to situate September 11th in the context of other tragedies that have occurred on American soil. For example, as many as 10,000 Cherokee people perished as a result of the forced march to Oklahoma known as the Trail of Tears B or, more accurately, the nuna dat suny, which literally translates as "they were crying in that place." Cherokee oral tradition is replete with stories acknowledging the trauma of what historians euphemistically call "removal", and its physical, spiritual and social wounds may never be completely healed. Other stories, and particularly those in the genre known as origin narratives, illuminate both 9/11 and Removal by enabling the emergence of a distinctly Cherokee critical theory of violence.

Some of the myths that surround pit bulls are that they have “lock jaw” and they have a killer instinct that does not stop at just killing other animals. Pit bull advocates, such as myself, know that Pit Bulls have always been known as the “nanny dog” throughout history because of how much they love children and their loyalty to their families. Mean or vicious dogs come from ignorant, irresponsible owners. The bottom line is that not all pit bulls are bad.
