Four men, one legendary band. The Beatles are one of the most influential bands in rock and roll history. They stretched music to its boundaries, experimenting with it throughout their ten years of existence, and twelve albums. The Beatles are a band from Liverpool England, but they began their journey to fame as the Quarrymen in 1956. With name changes such as Johnny, the Moondogs and The Silver Beatles, the group adopted the name The Beatles in 1960's. The band was established by John Lennon, and later added was Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Other original members were Pete Best, and Stuart Sutcliffe. However, Best and Sutcliffe were not marked as one of the Fab Four. With trial and fail, The Beatles became a hard-working …show more content…
music group that was very popular and their influence on music and popular culture still reverberates today. The Beatles did not immediately jump in fame. They toured Liverpool and the surrounding towns trying to build a fanbase. Eventually they made their way Hamburg where there fame was jump started. Upon returning to Liverpool, they had discovered this fame. Brian Epstein, a record store owner in Liverpool, had an interest in the music they were creating. He went to watch them perform one night. When they played, Brian was shocked from the unique music the unkempt looking boys were making. This inspired Brian to become their manager. He searched and got the boys a few auditions. However, they were unfruitful. Epstein continued lobbying for the band until he finally found an audition with George Martin at Parlophone records. Martin loved their sound. He cleaned them up, put them in tailored suits, which was Brian Epsteins idea. The only part of the band he did not seem to like was their drummer, Pete Best. Epstein was asked to replace Pete before the deal would be complete. Richard Starkey, also known as Ringo Starr, would take his place, completing the band. The Beatles were ready. Through the winter and spring of 1963, the Beatles continued their rise to fame in England by producing recordings of a whole new genre of which they could call their own.
They played classic American rock and roll on a multiple British Broadcasting Corporation radio programs. In these months, fascination with the Beatles had risen. Later that year, The Beatles made a couple of appearances on British television, creating a new word for the phenomenon: Beatlemania. (“Beatlemania in the 1960’s”) In early 1964, after many appearances on American television, the same sensation arose in the United States and generated the famed British Invasion of Beatles imitators from the United Kingdom. The Beatles in that same year, arrived in New York on the fourth of February. It was the first time they had ever been in the United States. There was a mere 3,000 fans waiting for them when they first stepped off their plane onto the American soil. Only two days after landing, they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show with an estimated 73 million people watching on television. This was about forty percent of the U.S. population that tuned in to watch The Beatles performance. Sullivan had booked the Beatles for two more appearances within that same month. The boys had their first show in the United States on February 11 at the Coliseum in Washington, D.C. A mere 20,000 fans attended. The next day, they gave two back-to-back performances at New York’s Carnegie Hall. The police had to be contacted …show more content…
and they were forced to close off the streets around the music hall because of fans frenzy. On February 22, the Beatles returned to England. The Beatles’ first American tour left a major imprint on the nation. Their singles and albums sold millions of records, and in April 1964 all five best-selling U.S. singles were Beatles songs. (Trust). Later in that month of fame, they returned to the United States for their second tour and played to sold-out arenas across the country. After The Beatles United States tour, they gave up touring. In 1970, The Beatles broke up, leaving the world with twelve albums and 30 Top 10 U.S. singles. Although they had stopped touring and were broken up, their music remained with people for decades. The next few years, all four Beatles pursued solo careers becoming quite successful on their own. McCartney did not want to drop out of the public eye. He was the first to pursue his own solo career. He later married Linda Eastman. John Lennon, who had released his own solo album, was shot to death by an insane fan outside his apartment building in 1980. Ringo Starr created his first album, Sentimental Journey which did exceptionally well. George Harrison, also known as “the quiet Beatle”, immediately created a band of his own with Ringo Starr, and guitarist Eric Clapton. Harrison later died of throat cancer. (“George Harrison Biography”) The only two Beatles left today are Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. The Beatles are one of the most influential bands of all time.
While they had a heavy impact on people in the 1960’s, they still continue to influence people and impact them today with their original style and sound. The Beatles brought a new music to people of all ages. They took everything amazing about Rock and Roll and made it their own with their style. They were extremely talented with raving success with musical talent that was a pure phenomenon. The Beatles were not just another band, but they became the start of a whole new generation of music. This music was full of energy, with rapid changes and growth that kept people interested. They were one of the few artists that were the best and most popular at what they were doing. With success unmatched by anyone, The Beatles, as John Lennon would say were “more popular than Jesus”. They will always be remembered as one of the biggest success stories in
America.
Success was hard for the Beatles started as the Quarrymen then turning into the Silver Beatles and touring through Germany playing long hours’ day and night at different clubs and venues. In fact, and article written by Andrew Romano from the Daily Beast states that one of Gladwell’s theory is revolved around Hamburg during their intense hours of playing. He states that after the Beatles had reached their point of fame during 1964, they had performed a total of twelve hundred times which Gladwell states” the idea that excellence at performing a complex task requires a minimal level of practice”. According to Gladwell this is what allowed them to become they greatest rock band of all time. Although this was Beatles point of greatness, once returning to Liverpool they still had a point to prove the world. After Brian Epstein spent many days convincing different labels, being rejected by the same record labels, changing their style, and cleaning up their act for the music industry, they were finally able to sign a label with United Kingdom’s leading music record company during May of 1962. By October of 1963, the Beatles had the opportunity to appear on the Sunday Night At the Long Palladium. During this time, if one was able to perform here you had reached a high point in the
The Beatles were formed in London and consisted of four prime members: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. When they first came out from Liverpool to America, they gave a clean look toward people by wearing suits and trimmed haircuts. The Rolling Stones, also formed in London later on, also consisted of four prime members in the beginning: Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards, and Charlie Watts. Throughout their career, they let they hair grow long and wear whatever they wanted including concerts, giving off the “I don’t care” look. The Beatles gave a clean impression, perceived as perfect school boys while The Rolling Stones gave a dirty image to the public and didn’t care about other’s opinion and rebelled against “the man”. As t...
The Beatles consisted of four talented men: Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Richard Starkey. They had met at all different times and had one thing in common. They all loved music. McCartney, Lennon and Harrison all played guitar and Starkey, also known as Ringo Starr, played the drums. They started out as The Quarry Men, but eventually they changed the name to The Beatles. They played a lot together over the years and at many different places. They started out as a “teenybopper” band, as Russell Gibb put it. They were like the Jonas Brothers of the fifties. When they made their way to America, they became more popular. Gibb also noted that they grew up with their fans. They did well all through the sixties, but around 1965 tension gre...
The Beatles are known, respectively, as the fathers of modern pop music. After their first #1 hit “Please Please Me” was released in 1963 the Beatles were set in motion to become one of the most influential groups of musicians to ever rock our world. With over forty-nine records, 37 #1’s, and thirty- four number one albums (the highest amount of any band in history), there is no denying that they made a monumental ripple in the musical world. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr surprisingly all come from humble beginnings in a town that, until their superstardom, was barely noticed on the map. Liverpool, being kn...
The Beatles are an iconic English rock band and are widely regarded as the “foremost and most influential act of the rock era” (Unterberg). Formed in Liverpool in 1960, the Beatles were comprised of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, with Stuart Sutcliffe on bass guitar in January and Pete
America’s defenses were breached and hysteria gripped the nation. The invasion had begun. However, the sounds of sirens did not fill the streets to warn against nuclear attacks, nor were there warnings to stay indoors. Instead the youth of America rushed into the streets of New York and welcomed the invaders with loud screams and insane fanaticism. The invaders were The Beatles and the members were Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. One of the biggest and influential bands to change the face of music as we know it took the world by storm by introducing new sound, new fashion, and a new way of approaching music. The Beatles have etched a name for themselves and stand in history as one of the greatest bands of all time. However there is a reason why they are regarded so highly and have become the big name that they are today. I never once listened to The Beatles and I didn’t get into music until I was twelve years old, yet at the age of nine I knew who they were. The Beatles are almost a household name in western cultures and that is because of the profound effect they brought upon society at the time. With help from their musical influences, experiences, and being present at the right place at the right time, The Beatles ascended into fame. It is because of factors like their influences, their experiences as a band, their management, and their arrival at the right time that made their takeover that much more successful and influential.
Here comes the sun du-du-du-du! Here comes the sun, and i say… hey, what do you think happened on February 9th, 1964? Well if you don’t know, the worlds most popular band became strangely the most popular band in the world (Glassman). They are a band from Liverpool, England together during the 60s’, are known as one of the best pop groups of all time (The Beatles). Come on, you know who I'm talking about. It’s The Beatles (The Beatles)! My question is, why? Why are they still popular today in the eyes of many Americans? Yes, that’s right. Americans (The Beatles).
The Beatles are a band that has made a huge impact into our world. The impact of the Beatles influenced many things. Such things would be types of music, the people, and a world movement.
It seems as though it’s impossible to provide an analogy to a group today that accurately expresses what the Beatles were to their hayday. I guess that the closest thing to the Beatles of 2014 is One Direction, British and super popular, but the Beatles were obviously much bigger and much more influential than any other pop culture icon in recorded history. The question is though, why were the Beatles so popular that they defined a genre and generation of music? Why did they have such a strong influence on pop culture that they still remain popular today? The Beatles have a distinct sound, but they also didn’t stick to this image that seems to be so popular in bands of today. They let their music change with their mood, and the mood of the time they wrote the song in. This, instead of causing them to seem instable and fragmented, made them even more defined. Their songs are different from each other in a way that keeps it exciting. Hearing the same song over and over again from one artist causes their fame to die out quickly, in the same way that no matter how much you like a song, i...
The Beatles was an English rock music band, which was formed in 1960 in Liverpool. Its members were: Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. Its members were widely regarded as the most influential act of the era of rock. Rooted in beat, 1950s rock and roll, and skiffle, the Beatles later tried a number of musical genres such as pop ballads, Indian music, hard rock, and psychedelia, while innovatively incorporating classical elements. In the early sixties, their huge popularity emerged as “Beatlemania.” However, as Beatles’ music became more sophisticated, under the leadership of McCartney and Lennon, they were seen as an embodiment of ideals propagated by the counterculture
They rarely sang other people's music because they had so much content. Many other groups which followed were inspired by The Beatles. They set trends for music and style for many years. Over the years, The Beatles have made a huge impact on music and music history because they were willing to try things that were new and different. They will never be forgotten (News, Daily).
With over 175 weeks on the number one slot, this band has been the most famous and influential band ever. It all started as a quartet from England, dreaming a dream, a dream about music, and a dream about life. The year is 1960, and 4 young teenage boys are recording their first song “Love Me Do.” Little did they know how famous they would become. I’m talking of course about the famous band, the Quarrymen. Oh, you have never heard of them? You may know them better as “The Beatles”, a band composed of four members. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr made up this legendary quartet. What these four boys did not know, was that only a few measly years after their first single, that they would be starting riots. Concerts sold out, and thousands of people imitating their every move. We have all heard the success story of the Beatles, but I am going to tell you how it all began. (“Beatlemania”)
The Beatles accomplished many things in their career, and they were very influential to the music industry. They were the first known band to achieve world-wide fame, and their name as the best rock icon still remains untouched today. (All Music) To this day, The Beatles still are releasing old unreleased music to keep the fandom going.
When people think about the 60’s the majority of them all think about the Beatles. The Beatles is a band that made Rock and Roll a totally, different type of music. Even though The Beatles were such a hit, as time went on they started to fall apart. Over 50 years later, the Beatles are still classified as one of the best band of all time.
The Beatles are an English rock band who originated in Liverpool, England in 1960. They were a huge success locally even before they began to make records in the United Kingdom. The band was comprised of four members: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. They owe much of their early, quick success to manager Brian Epstein who molded them into a professional act, and producer George Martin who enhanced their musical potential. Early in the 1960’s, their widespread fame in the United Kingdom was first referred to as “Beatlemania”. Eventually, they acquired the nickname “the Fab Four” as Beatlemania grew rapidly in Britain. By 1964, the Fab Four made their way overseas and officially became international pop stars. The Beatles were the leading factor in the “British Invasion” of the United States pop market.
