But, for most people, they are reminded of the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. I remember growing up playing basketball in my driveway, counting down the seconds for the last shot. My brother and I would pretend we were one person; that person was Michael Jordan. He has always been one of the biggest icons of all sports. Jordan is the most influential player to ever play the game of basketball. Not only has he influenced the game of basketball itself, but he has influenced society and the city of Chicago in a major way.
There has always been a debate on who is the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. Many sports analysts have said that you could compare today’s best players to Jordan. Personally, I disagree. Michael Jordan completely changed the way fans looked at the sport of basketball. Not only by his play, but by his mentality going into every game. No one wanted to win more than Michael Jordan, and few ever did. Jordan ended his career with six NBA championships, five Most Valuable Player awards, six finals Most Valuable Player awards, 14-time All Star selections, nine All-Defensive 1st team selections, while leading the NBA in scoring ten times. Based on these accomplishments, most people would without a doubt say that Jordan is the greatest player to ever play the game of basketball. But, it isn’t all about accolades and statistics. Jordan had the will to win like no other. “In order to beat Michael Jordan in a playoff series, you’d literally have to chop off his arms and legs, and even then you st...

The point is, Michael Jordan is and always will be the most idolized player in all of sports. Whether it’s a basketball player, football player, olympic swimmer, or even a business man dreaming of being like Jordan, he will always be the most idolized athlete of all sports.

Unfortunately, the comparison is being made seemingly every day, and the article by Mr. Mathis is full of fallacious material. His extreme uses of exaggeration and card stacking, along with many harsh examples of hasty generalizations, makes a claim that Michael Jordan is and always will be the greatest player to play basketball. An opinion is simply an opinion and anyone is entitled to their opinion, but using fallacies to formulate his response to the issue makes it too finite and too biased in favor of Michael Jordan. There are so many clear and dramatic exaggerations throughout the article. Michael Jordan is described as being “the most unstoppable assassin of all-time, the smartest marketer of all-time” and then sarcastically mentioned as “the savviest shoe salesman of all-time” (Mathis, par. 2).

When I began my report I didn’t know much about Michael Jordan, but I did know that he was “undoubtedly the greatest player in the history of the NBA'; (“Michael Air Jordan'; 1). If you were walking down the street you might see a kid wearing Air Jordan shoes or a Bulls jersey with “JORDAN'; on the back of it. This man is probably as recognizable as the Pope.
December 21, 1891- The birth of basketball. It has been changed from simply shooting a soccer ball into a peach basket to dunking a seven pound, leather ball into an iron rim.
