Elias Walt Disney was a man of great creativity and brought happiness to billions of people. He was a producer and a pioneer for animated movies. Mr. Disney created the Disney Empire which includes Disneyland and the Walt Disney Film Production. The legacy of Mr. Disney will continue to live long after any of us. This paper will look at the history of Disney, the films, animation and Mikey Mouse. Where the history began, Elias Walt Disney was born December 5, 1901, in Hermosa, Illinois. He was one of five and spent most of his early life in Missouri. When he was younger, his creative side started as he was drawing and painting and selling the art work to neighbors and friends. After dropping out of school and bring rejected from the army, in 1919, he got a job with Iwerks who owned a Film-Ad company and started working and experimenting with animations. People doubted him, but it his first one was a success. From imbd.com, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) was anything but, winning critical raves, the adoration of the public, and one big and seven little special Oscars for Walt.” This was the kick off to the animation success Disney still has today. He did have some downfalls within the success. While Pinocchio, Dumbo, and Bambi were all hugely successful, Fantasia was a flop and there was an animators strike in 1941. Then in the mid-1940s, Disney started putting groups of cartoons together to run full length. These group showings didn’t take off as well and so Disney went back to animation films in the 50s. The films that came out in the early 50s were Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan. The first live-action production was Treasure Island. Then the later 50s films included, “Lady and the Tramp (1955), Sleeping Beauty (1959), and 101 Dalmatians (1961)”
