The Kim Dynasty of North Korea
North Korea is very mysterious and isolated from the rest of the world. Very little is known about what actually happens in the state. This isolation began in 1945 when Kim Il-Sung came to power of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (also known as North Korea). He started a reign of rule that was based on self-reliance. It began the Kim dynasty, a period of extreme authoritarian rule. Although it is called the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, citizens have very little rights and no choice in their leader. Ironically, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea comes in last of 167 countries in the democracy index. (“Liberty and Justice for Some”) Under the rule of Kim Il-Sung, Korea entered the Korea War, which strained relations with other countries. North Korea then grew more into isolationism and more into poverty. Under the rule of Kim Jong-Il, North Korea became very involved in nuclear weapons that resulted in strained relations with the United Nations and its member states. When Kim Jong-Un came into power, the citizens have suffered from lack of rights and crimes against humanity. The Kim dynasty has harmed North Korea’s citizens and its chances of becoming a world power.
Kim Il-Sung became involved in the communist party when he was young and was jailed for being involved in a communist organization when he was eighteen. After being released from jail, he joined a Korean guerilla resistance against Japanese control over the Korean peninsula. Kim became noticed by the Soviet Union who sent him to the Soviet Union for military training; there he officially joined the communist party. After Japan surrendered and Korea split in two, Kim returned to North Korea and becam...

...tein). The extensive members of the United Nations essentially put North Korea against the world. The result is to increase the isolation and poverty that began when Kim Il-Sung took leadership over North Korea.
Relations with the United Nations have been forever strained with the actions of the leaders of North Korea. Since the Korean War, relations between North Korea and the World were impaired. The Kim dynasty has harmed North Korea’s citizens and its chances of becoming a world power. Their leadership has come at the expense of lack of rights to their citizens. The citizens have also been victims of crimes against humanity. If the case against North Korea goes to the ICC, conditions could improve for the citizens. As for the state of the nation, the decisions of future leaders will either further harm or improve the status of North Korea in worldview.
During his rule there was decrease in trading because their main trading partner, the Soviet Union, had just collapsed. Not only that, but there were also numerous floods and droughts that occurred too. This left North Korea in famine, since there was only a certain amount of farming land, this left Kim Jong-Il to worry about his power. With the remaining amount of farming land, he instead decided to use those resources for the military instead of the citizens experiencing famine at the time. After this incident, in 2003, it was found out that North Korea was producing nuclear weapons, but Kim Jong-Il said it was only for security reasons.
The Korean War , although successful in preventing the spread of communism, was one of the first tests of communism in Asia. North Korea was strictly communist while South Korea was democratic. As usual, the United States supported democratic South Korea and the Truman Doctrine was applied to the Korean situation. The North Korean forces crossed the dividing line (38th parallel) and invaded South Korea. Thus, they provoked a war over communism. With the possibility of democratic South Korea falling to the communistic North, the U.S. stepped in and supplied aid mostly through troops. The U.S. then urged the United Nations to support South Korea and fight against the communist North. Once the North Korean forces were defeated at Inchon, they eventually got pushed back to the 38th parallel. However, against President Truman’s word, American General MacArthur decided to keep pushing back the North Korean forces by crossing the dividing line. This caused more trouble because the People’s Republic of China (Communist China) now sent troops to aid the communists against the pro...
Kim Jong-un became the supreme leader of North Korea in 2012 after his father, Kim Jong-il passed away. Kim Jong-un is very similar to his father and predecessor. All he wants to see is
Kim Jong Il assumed dictatorship in 1994 after his father Kim ll Sung died. It was his father’s desire that he would be in control after his death. Throughout a three year mourning period for Sung, Jong quickly built up his status. (Leitich, 6) Jong quickly Promoted his son and daughter to Generals so he would not be threatened by them wanting his position.($$$) Napoleon was also quick to give jobs to every one so he would not be threatened by them.(*****)Meanwhile North Korea became increasingly diplomatically isolated when in 1998, it test fired a missile that flew over the Japanese Island of Honshu.( Leitich,5) It was feared that other nations would want to develop nuclear weapons to protect themselves from a possible attack by North Korea.(Worth,13) When Napoleon developed the Windmill, everyone worked on that just like Jong did with the Nuclear weapons program. It was the pride and joy of animal farm just like...
Korea had been united as one country for many years. Japan took control of Korea and made it part of its empire. After World War II, Japan was defeated and its empire fell. Korea was left without a leader or a system of government. This provoked the United States troops to occupy the southern half and Soviet troops to occupy the northern half. The United States and its allies favored democratic government, while the Soviet Union and China favored a communist system of government.
Japan was imperializing late nineteenth century to early twentieth century. Korea was a Japanese colony. After World War II, the Japanese had to get rid of the colony. North Korea became Communist. South Korea wanted to be democratic. Later North Korea crossed the 38th parallel and entered South Korea. The United States answered by telling the United Nations to help South Korea. The United Nations did and they pushed North Korea so far back they hit the northern tip of china. China went into the war to protect their borders. At the end of the war they went back to where they were in the beginning. Neither side won. Between 1992 -1995 North Korea did many good things. It says on BBC News Asia that North Korea became involved in the United Nations and they agree to freaze nuclear weapon program those where the good they did but then there was a huge flood that created a food shortage this was also on BBC Asia. In 2002 it say in BBC Asia that nuclear tension increased in North Korea and United States. The North Korean communist nation controls the citizen’s religious beliefs so they have to belief in jushe which is a belief that they have to look up to North Korean leaders. In North Korea life was incredibly different, and is still different, from life in America. The residents of North Korea live in extreme poverty, while Kim Jong Il and any member of Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea live as if they were kings; their meals filled with delicacies the citizens of North Korea can only dream of. Although it’s found strange to most in "normal" society, Kim Jong Il is revered as a God, because it is he who gave them all the “luxuries” in North Korea. When in actuality, he is the sole culprit of North Korea’s extreme poverty.
North Korea could be described as a dystopian society. For all of its citizens, the Internet is widely monitored and restricted, allowing only limited access. “One could speculate that it is more propaganda about the country, its leaders, or negative coverage about the US.... ... middle of paper ... ...
Little is known about North Korea except for news stories concerning international terrorism, nuclear arms threats, and prison camps. From space, North Korea is shrouded in darkness like the history that surrounds this country. This is due to the nation's strict closed-country policy: not many outsiders have visited there and not many North Koreans have traveled to the outside world. While little action can be taken to help the North Korean people, action taken by the United Nations is crucial. Recently, United Nations human rights investigators issued a horrific report documenting massive human rights violations in North Korea. The United Nations feels these crimes of humanity should be brought to the International Criminal Court. UN members work to "promote and encourage respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion” (Youth For Human Rights). North Korea unlike any other country in the world cannot be reported on fully because of regulations on people entering its boundaries.
North Korean society is just like a dystopian society, when you hear the word dystopia you would think of a society where the government controls its citizens, a society where there is no freedom, no independence, and no personal thought, where the citizens are not to question the government.
...ity. Kim Jong Un could face prosecution for crimes against humanity. The conflict between the United Nations and Kim Jong Un symbolizes the conflict between good and evil.
The Joseon Dynasty has emphatically changed Korea so much that it is called “Choson”, same as Joseon, in the North Korean language. The dynasty came after the Goryeo Dynasty, which was starting to crumble due to the neighboring Mongol Empire. General Yi, a renowned general at the time, took over and ascended the throne as emperor, officially ending the Goryeo Dynasty and starting the Joseon Dynasty. Between 1392 and 1897 CE, the Joseon Dynasty started in Korea and inspired new modifications of government and illustrious art, yet continued to have a monarchy-style government.
South Korea is a country that has rapidly developed. But the country also experienced military dictatorship in the 1980s
And even until not, the only opportunity of crossing the DMZ to the other side of Korea is through the aid of Red Cross. [5] After the war, Rhee put a lot of effort in eliminating his rivals and opponents. He gained enormous political powers and had an imperial role in the state. Because of the war, Kim Il Sung also gained support from the his people.
“The Chollima Movement, however, applied the same method of centralized state planning that began with the Soviet First Five-Year Plan in 1928,” (Communism in Korea - Nations Wiki). In 1928 the Soviets made a plan called the Five Year Plan, which involved industrializing the USSR and allowed Stalin to control collective farms and industrial goods. The North Koreans made a plan along with the Soviets that was similar to Stalin’s Five Year Plan, meaning the Soviets influenced North Korea economically. “North Korea owes its survival as a separate political entity to China and the Soviet Union,” (North Korea - China and the Soviet Union). When Korea was in the midst of splitting into two, the USSR provided major political support to North Korea.
