Jonas was the most honored person in his community. It was an honor for Jonas to be selected to be the next receiver of memories.Jonas gets access to many things in the community.It’s rare to be selected which makes it an honor to be the next receiver.Jonas gets a new ability to have the capacity to see beyond unlike the other people in his community.

Jonas gets access to many things in his community.For instance, Jonas’s rules said “You may lie.”(65)Jonas was allowed to lie to other people if he did not want to answer truthfully.One detail from the text is ”You may ask any question of any citizen and you will receive answers.” (65)Jonas could ask any question to any person he wanted and would get an answer no matter what.The author stated that “There must have been hundreds-perhaps thousands- of books, their titles embossed in shiny letters.” (71)Jonas has access to all the books in the annex room, unlike the other people in his community.For example ”The training required of you involves pain.”(59)The training has pain, but it’s so that the rest of the community doesn’t have to experience it.

It’s rare to be selected as the new receiver which makes it an honor to be the next receiver.According to the text ” He is to be alone, apart, while he is prepared by the current receiver for the job which is the most honored in the community.”(58)Jonas is the most honored person in the community because none of the other people in the community could do it .For example “Such a selection is very, very rare.”(57)The selection to be the next receiver is rare because it only happens every so often.The author stated “ You are not permitted to apply for release.”(65) If Jonas applied for release then he would be killed and all the painful memories would go to the entire community.
Jonas gets a new ability to have the capacity to see beyond unlike the other people in his community.According to the text it states“ He calls it the capacity to see beyond.”(60)Jonas now has the ability to see beyond, which means he can receive the memories and store them.For example “ For the first time in his twelve years of life, Jonas felt separate, different.” pg 62 Jonas felt different because there is one person in the entire community that has his job while everybody else has co-workers.
In conclusion, it was an honor for Jonas to be selected as the new receiver because being the receiver is a hard job. Other people in the community probably could not handle the job as the next receiver. Being the receiver is very hard which makes it a very honorable job in his community.
