Illegal immigration is a current hot topic in today’s society. One third of our inmates now serving time in federal prisons come from another country. Our nations criminal justice system is the target of serious budget cut backs. We can not afford to be paying for another nations citizens to be comfortably housed in Americas correctional facilities. America needs to do everything in it's power to ensure illegal immigration stops. There are estimates anywhere from 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States to 30 million. Illegal immigrants create a disproportionate amount of crime in this country. For example, “illegal immigrants make up about seven percent of Arizona’s general population, but they account for fifteen percent of the states prison population”. A good fourteen percent of the illegal inmates housed in prisons are convicted on dangerous charges such as manslaughter, murder, and drug offenses. In Los Angeles, California 95% of outstanding homicide warrants, and two thirds of felony warrants are issued towards illegal immigrants! The problems with illegal immigration are compounded financially. Within the health care system alone, illegals cost our countries taxpayers $500 million dollars a year. Altogether it is estimated that illegal immigrants costs our nation a billion dollars every year! The “Center for Immigration Studies” reports that "If immigration continues at current levels, the nation's population will increase from 301 million today to 468 million in 2060 (a 56% increase)”. Sheer human population growth of any kind becomes significant to our criminal justice system. Mexico is currently in a state of distress as drug dealings, shootings and murders are becoming a daily occurrence, especially wit... ... middle of paper ... ...on a counterfeit card is only thirty dollars. In reality, there is no need for these cards, when legal immigrants have access to a U.S. Id card. In general opinion, most informed Americans believe this card should no longer be accepted. When looking at crime data one must consider ending illegal immigration. Places such as San Diego are now prosperous after erecting a fence and seeing a decline of illegal aliens. We need to end the Matricula Consular card and enact tougher laws against illegal immigration. I believe we also need to regularly enforce our laws that are already in place. I do not see a solution in trying to fix Mexico or providing an open border to any immigrant willing to cross. In these tough economic times our country needs to put its foot down and cut back on all of the costs surrounding illegal immigration. Works Cited Challenge of Democracy
Response to Illegal Immigrants – How many illegal immigrants are there? What is the penalty for illegal immigrants?
The United States was formed by the immigration of many people from all over the world. Americans take pride in knowing that we are a people of vast ethnic backgrounds and culture. However, at the present time, the flow of illegal immigration, as well as a large influx of other legal immigrants is placing a strain on our land of "huddled masses." Legal immigration to the United States can easily be handled and is welcomed by most Americans. However, the flow of illegal immigrants, especially from Mexico, must be stemmed, due to the strain it is placing on the government, (at the local, state and federal level), as well as the general population. Illegal immigrants are costing the United States over 24 billion dollars a year in taxpayers money (National Review 12.13.93). Something must be done to reduce the flow of illegal immigration into the United States. The focus of this paper will be the problems caused by and possible solutions to the problem of illegal immigration.
The United States has found that there are approximately 13 million illegal immigrants residing within its borders, and that number is predicted to rise with the years to come. Although there is no definite number, there is a great chance that more than half of these 13 million illegal immigrants drive illegally in the United States. This means that there are more than six million drivers on the roads who are not educated on American traffic laws, who are not registered on the government database, and who have no insurance to cover their accidents. On top of that, if pulled over, law enforcement has the ability to immediately deport these immigrants if they do not provide proper paperwork. It is a known fact that people from all over the world immigrate to the United States in search of the American dream.
Among the problems that face our nation, illegal immigration seems to be one of the most regarded. “In 2005, there were 12.7 million people classified as refugees in the world. Refugees are forced to migrate because of danger in their own country.” (Cath Senker 12) Some push to end it while others want to have it legalized or less strict. There are many points that are argued on this topic. Although immigrants support the economy, they should have to pay taxes. Illegal immigration should be stopped or slowed until the legalization process and borders are improved. Due to the fact, that taxpayers are the backbone of our economy and nation as a whole.
Illegal immigration has been an ongoing problem in America for many decades. The form of law that currently governs the immigration process is, the Immigration and Naturalization Act, and it has been broken for many years as immigrants still continue to pour into the states illegally. The immigration acts enacted in the past that have been continuously modified leads up to the current policy that falls under the Incrementalism model. However, it is important to note that the current American Immigration system is broken and is in dire need of reform. There are 11 million people living in the dark and too many employers cheating the system by hiring undocumented workers in exchange for offering lesser pay. The current system is hurting the economy and bringing down our country as a whole.
Whether it may have positive effects or negative ones, there’s no question that illegal immigration is an issue that cannot be ignored. And the problem isn’t necessarily finding a solution to help slow or prevent illegal immigration. It’s figuring out which solution will work the best for us. We will always encourage foreigners to come to our country, just as long as the proper steps are taken to do
There are currently 11.7 million immigrants living in the U.S. The United States is now again being named the land of immigrants. The new century has been introduced to the illegal immigrant. They are desperate to get into the American culture and are forced to disobey the laws of government to assimilate themselves in America. People come over because they have family, jobs or want a better life. This may cause some problems for Americans. Certain Americans believe immigration will cause the economy to drop, drop to wages, and job loss due to cheap labor, etc. But no one has thought of a solution for immigration that will work effectively.
The United States of America, being a country founded by immigrants, is known all over the world as the land of great opportunities. People from all walks of life travelled across the globe, taking a chance to find a better life for them and their family. Over the years, the population of immigrants has grown immensely, resulting in the currently controversial issue of illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants are the people who have overstayed the time granted on their US, visa or those who have broken the federal law by crossing the border illegally. Matt O’Brien stated in his article “The government thinks that 10.8 million illegal immigrants lived in the country in January 2009, down from a peak of nearly 12 million in 2007.”(Para, 2) While some argue that illegal immigrants burden the United States of America and its economy, others believe that they have become essential and are an important part of the US, economy.
Any immigrant who commits murder or other offense after coming to this country will be dismissed. Their legalization will never come. Most illegal immigrants who come to this country are asylum seekers. These immigrants seek refuge and peace in the United States. Nevertheless, some illegal immigrants come here for disastrous reasons. These immigrants come here to harm United States citizens. In an article by Breitbart called “Illegal Alien Accounts For Over 30% of Murders in Many States” it asserts, “Between 2008 and 2014, 40% of all murder convictions in Florida were criminal aliens. In New York, it was 34% and Arizona 17.8 %”(Tancredo). These immigrants who commit serious offenses like murder, do not deserve to be here. These immigrants will not receive the chance to become rightful
Illegal immigration has been around for a long time and has been a major problem here in the United States. Illegal immigration is not declining anytime soon. Illegal immigration is not only a problem for the economy but also for the security of the country. The main concern for Americans is that illegal immigrants are cutting wages from honest, hardworking American citizens. Illegal immigrants are able to accomplish this by working for lower wages and without some of the benefits demanded by American workers.
Illegal immigration was an issue in the past and is a pressing problem in the present. The U.S. Government has been trying to find a resolution to this issue for years. The United States approved the Immigration Reform and Control Act in 1986, which allowed the American Government to punish American companies that consciously employed illegal immigrants (Nadadur 1037-1052). The United States’ Government Immigration Reform and Control Act has been unsuccessful in controlling illegal immigration. It is estimated that illegal immigration into the U.S. has a yearly interval of three hundred fifty thousand people (Rousmaniere 24-25). It is apparent that the 1986 act was not able to keep a handle on illegal immigration. Illegal immigration continues due to the fact that immigrants only take the jobs available to them, which in turn helps support the United States’ economy, so measures should not be taken to halt immigration.
One of the largest disadvantages of allowing illegal immigrants in our country is the cost. They take great sums of money away from taxpayers and our government, though such things as welfare, food stamps and free schooling. Illegal immigrants are given such things as free welfare and food stamps from the tax payer’s wallets (Expensive aliens: How much illegal aliens really cost). Even worse is that 80% of illegal immigrants do not pay taxes back, which have caused a great increase in tax rates (Illegal immigration Cost, Crimes and Related problems (US). Tax payers even pay for the housing...
In the United States of America there is a reported eleven million illegal immigrants, also referred to as aliens. Many of these aliens have come here to work and others to earn a permanent citizenship. When they are illegally working in America there are fewer jobs for legal citizens and in-turn leads to higher economic instability and can lead to a significant increase in violence. With more violence comes more people in jail which causes more taxpayers money going toward that and not the important things such as education. But before Americas prisons are clear of illegal immigrants, the government must think of a way to prevent illegal immigration. They should also cut back on how many people from other countries that are allowed in each year.
The first issue that I would like to address is the overcrowding issues in prisons. In my opinion, overcrowding issues are the biggest issues in our correctional system that concerns every citizen. Running a prison required money, resources and manpower, with overcrowding issues, the government would have no choice but to increase the number of correctional facilities, privatized prisons and increasing manpower. According to (Levitt, 1996), “The incarceration rate in the United States has more than tripled in the last two decades. At year-end 1994 the United States prison population exceeded one million. Annual government outlays on prisons are roughly $40 billion per year. The rate of imprisonment in the United States is three to four times greater than most European countries.” (p.1). Overcrowding issues are not only affect prisons but the society as a whole as well. The reason is simply because prison population directly refl...
One of the major issues surrounding border security is illegal immigration, “For the past two decades the United States, a country with a strong tradition of limited government, has been pursuing a widely popular initiative that requires one of the most ambitious expansions of government power in modern history: securing the nation’s borders against illegal immigration” (Alden, 2012). Many people are trying to enter the United States without the proper documentation and everyday they risk their lives and others just to make it across these borders. To avoid this law enforcement and other border security has threatened these illegal immigrants with detainment and arrest and different forms of punishment. In the efforts to deter the problem, it has been far beyond feasible because they still manage to get across and it does not change their intention...
