The Invisible Bully: Cyberbullying

Life should be the creation of beauty, happiness, and sincerity, however, our generation has allowed these values to decrease through the form of cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is when someone uses technology to threaten, harass, embarrass, or target another person publicly (New, 2012). The technologies that are starting to be used are no longer just computer, however, has expanded to phones, tablets, and even game systems (New, 2012). By definition, cyberbullying is used to describe the misuse of technology between children (New, 2012). The definition of cyberbullying is not interchangeable when referring to adults and children. When an adult misuse the internet to hurt others, this is considered as cyber- harassment or cyber stalking, which can lead to jail time, if found guilty (New, 2012).

There are many methods that can cause shame or hurt to another person through cyberbullying. Some of the less noticeable, which are becoming more apparent over time, are things such as impersonating a victim on line, posting personal information, photos, or videos which were designed to break down someone’s personal character or physical traits (New, 2012). The more noticeable forms of cyber bullying are being implemented through the form of text messages, Facebook, twitter, Instagram, and other forms of social media websites. Although there are ways for children to block certain content, it is almost impossible to get rid of all cyberbullying on the internet. There are pages that have specifically been created to harass, bully, and hurt the people using these websites (New, 2012).

...ople, schools, state representative, and congress should step up and help the prevention of cyberbullying in our country. Our students should not have to be scared to walk in their schools because they are afraid of something someone may post about them online. The younger generation, and United States as a whole, needs to be more aware of how this form of bullying can hurt someone’s wellbeing. Although we won’t be able to stop cyberbullying overnight, together we can stop it.
