“Everyone thought you guys could not finish it, but you proved them wrong!” our supervisor said with pride after we demonstrated the term project for Object Oriented Programming Language Course. We chose to implement “Video Conferencing on Local Area Network”, while others thought it to be a preposterous choice for two first year students. It was the strongest feeling of achievement I felt that day, which only comes from overcoming a challenge with diligence and hard work. I relived the same feeling for numerous occasions throughout my undergraduate and professional career which justified my decision to take Computer Science as my career path. I am writing this essay to prove my eligibility as a PhD student in Computer Science. I will try to describe my academic background, professional experience, research interest and finally my reasons for choosing to do PhD in Database and Data mining related fields in the next few paragraphs.
Academic Background
My under-graduate study at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, which is the most prestigious institutions in the country, exposed me to all the core areas of Computer Science. I got introduced to Structured Programming Language and Object Oriented Programming Language in my freshman year. These two courses along with the projects laid the foundation for the future courses. In following years I really enjoyed the CS courses like Discrete Mathematics, Data Structure, Algorithms, Database, Software Engineering, System Analysis and Design. Most of these courses were designed with a term projects which helped me to get better understanding of the theories as we put them into practice. I was the lead member of a team which designed and developed a Web applic...

I would be grateful to you if I am accorded the opportunity to pursue my graduate studies with financial assistance at your institution.
I still vividly remember the time during my graduation, when I was successful in creating a simple calculator application as a class assignment. The joy I derived from creating something that is used by a lot of people to help them perform complex calculations, made me realize the power of computing in its true sense. It was also in my graduation that I developed an immense interest in programming languages such as Java, C++ and also web technologies such as ASP, JSP, and XHTML.
“Time and tide wait for no man”, this we all know. Having done an inspiring four-year course in Computer Science Engineering. I would like to put to use this knowledge to do my PhD in Computer Science. This would give me the leading edge in technology and the practical low-down and the information I require. For the past few decades man is advancing in to the unknown realms of science and technology. This advancement is to make life easy and to increase human comfort at home and at work and I would like to be an integral part of such betterment. For this, research would be of prime importance with hands on experience in real time Applications accompanied by in-depth knowledge of the subject.Technology, today, means power in the widest sense of tem and merely the power of mind. And it is this power potential that has given it the status it now enjoys.
My interest in Computer Science grew out of my study of mathematics and programming languages. In my engineering, apart from doing well in subjects such as Data Structures, Object Oriented Programming, Database Systems and Theory of Computation, I was among the few of my peers who always set ambitious targets and thrived to achieve them. I have actively participated and won 3rd prize in my institute’s (Tirumala Engineering College) annual programming competition named ‘Code Marathon’.
I took up Computer Science and Engineering as my discipline in Bhoj Reddy Engineering College for Women affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, one of the premier institutes in India. My undergraduate education has been a great learning and enriching process for me. It exposed me to all the core areas of Computer Science like operating systems, database management systems, networks and network security, data structures, algorithms and software engineering. These courses have given me a good foundation in the core concepts. My interest lies in Database Management, Programming Languages, Theory of Computation, and Software Engineering. I am fully acquainted with the fast growing subjects like Object Oriented Programming, Analysis and Design. On the other hand, the intensive laboratory classes exposed me to a fascinating world of experimentation. It was here that I discovered the qualities of perseverance and diligence in myself. I feel that these courses have done a lot to prepare me for my future studies and research work.
During the four years of my curriculum I was introduced to various courses which laid a strong
As Satzinger, Jackson & Burd (2010, pp. 488) states that a Database Management System (DBMS) is a “system software that manages and controls access to a database”. It is generally purchased and installed separately from other system software components. Examples of DBMS includes Microsoft Access, Oracle and Gemstone.
...ional facilities, modern library services and many other qualities have greatly attracted my attention into selecting your university. Thus, I believe, Masters in Information Technology Management from Illinois Institute of Technology would help me in enhancing my knowledge and achieving my career goals. I determined to secure proficiency and in due course, make a prominent input in the field of Information Technology. I sincerely hope that you would share my confidence by accepting me into your esteemed institution. Given an opportunity, I shall strive to channel my unbridled efforts into more productive avenues. I take this opportunity to thank you for enabling me to express myself.
When I began my undergraduate career, computer science, I had the opportunity to involve in the latest technologies. Also, some CS courses developed my creativity and my ability to solve problems using novel ways. For example, in the Algorithm Design course, by some limited principles, we had to solve various problems and consider its efficiency and optimality. This course helped me to improve critical thinking skills of mine. Getting accustomed to this approach for four years, enabled me to think about different and sometimes unusual but possible solutions to given problems and being fearless of facing new
Another reason that inspires me to pursue my degree in computer science is the countless opportunities that awaits me in the industry. The said degree has been an in-demand course globally ...
My interest for Computer Science stems from a deep flair in the subject of Mathematics. Problem Solving has always been my forte –the fact that I secured 100% in Mathematics at my grade 10 examinations and have regularly performed well in Mathematics Olympiads stands a testimony to this. This explains my interests in mathematics, programming and computing in general. The decision to read computer science was therefore a simple one.
This perfectly holds true for me in the world of Computer Engineering where novel ideas are not a novelty. It is this novelty that entices me to this field and gives me a deep sense of professional pride. In this context, I would like to pursue my graduation in Computer Engineering, which not only supplements the knowledge that I possess but also provides a strong platform for my future career goals.
My undergraduate studies in the Department of Information Technology at the St.Joseph’s College of Engineering under Anna University, Chennai have been extremely helpful to acquire a strong foundation in computer science. I majored in Computer Science so that I would get the broadest exposure possible in multiple disciplines using which I could more easily leverage my learned skills. Through the many opportunities I have had here, I have found that I have a deep interest in software development and web design and a strong aptitude for the type of problem solving and problem discovery that it involves. Any amount of learning in Computer Science would be incomplete without hands on experience of Programming. In this regard I completed various mini projects like RFID Based Poad Toll Tax – this is based on Embedded C programming language and SPORTS MEET- data used in this project is based on DBMS which has both my own interest and also as a part of some of my courses.
My passion towards Computer Science started early at the age of 8 when my dad first taught me how to use it. At that time, I used to wonder how it worked by seeing its amazing functionalities and features. When I was in grade 5, we had computer science as a subject in our curriculum which I learnt with copious interest. In grade 8, I understood that we can also communicate with the computers by using different languages just like how we communicate with humans. I attended C and C++ summer crash courses after my high school and this galvanized me to take computer science stream in my senior high school. As days passed, my passion towards the subject thrived. Having 95% in Computer Science I opted for Information Technology in Sri Sairam Engineering
There are certain instances in my life that stimulated my love for computer science. During my childhood years I saw the computer only as an advanced gaming system, but soon I became aware of the wonders it can perform. Applications like the "Yahoo messenger" and "Orkut" bewildered me. My interest for programming was further intensified by my Computer professor who when I was in 8th standard taught us HTML. Through just a flick of keys, I could create and modify my own web-pages. When it said "Hello Natansh" for the first time, I felt like I was commanding the computer to perform a certain task for me. In the 11th standard, I was introduced to Java and to the concepts of databases, these piqued my interest and made me choose Information Technology stream for B.Tech.
Computers and Technology have fascinated me right from my childhood and I have always had it in my mind to choose Information Technology for my engineering.
