An enduring issue in developmental psychology has been the question of which exercises a greater influence on development, our inborn tendencies (nature) or our surrounding world (nurture)? In infants and toddler development, nature is a natural quality that is impacted to development. Most of the natural qualities in nature are in every human being. For instance, practically all children have the ability to learn to talk and walk as well as following what other people do, especially adults. Nurture is the environment that is important for infants and toddlers’ development, that is, an environment where children emotional and physical needs are met, as well as their self-help skills. Nature and nurture are both involved in the production of behavior (Dacey, 2008). The environment is usually safe and comfortable for the children. Nurture positively influence children’s growth and development, such as, activities. However, some of the time the environment in which a child is in, is not as nurturing as it should be. For example, they may be in an abusive environment. As a matter of fact, if a child is in an abusive environment, for example, their home, they usually would go out of the home to find nurture, love, comfort and safety. During the childhood years, adequate nurturing by parents has a large impact on optimal biological and psychological development. This includes neurological, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. Rao et al. (2010) broadly define nurture as including “warmth, affection, and acceptance” (p. 1145).
Nature versus nurture is an argument in psychology over whether a person’s innate qualities and behaviors are caused from their environment or if they’re born with it. Vygotsky places more emphasis on the social factors that contribute to cognitive development, in other words he is in favor of the nurture argument. He believes that everyone learns from their culture, environment, and social interactions. He talks about a few of his theories like the zone of proximal development, and a more knowledgeable other. He also expresses his thoughts on developmental tools and the importance of language to cognitive development. All of these factors together support his idea that children’s behavior is learned.
For this first analytical essay, I have decided to have a go at analyzing the Nature Vs. Nurture using my own viewpoint as a sibling. No doubt this is a topic that has been debated to mental death already, but I think it is something I will benefit from thinking about. Also, at the end of my main topic, I will quickly address a topic brushed on in the book.

Undoubtedly, humans are unique and intricate creatures and their development is a complex process. It is this process that leads people to question, is a child’s development influenced by genetics or their environment? This long debate has been at the forefront of psychology for countless decades now and is better known as “Nature versus Nurture”. The continuous controversy over whether or not children develop their psychological attributes based on genetics (nature) or the way in which they have been raised (nurture) has occupied the minds of psychologists for years. Through thorough reading of experiments, studies, and discussions however, it is easy to be convinced that nurture does play a far more important in the development of a human than nature.
I believe that a child’s growth is developmental, and each child needs a secure caring and motivating atmosphere in which to grow and developed emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. I believe nature and nurture are the two aspects that influence in child development. Nature and nurture are different in several ways, but they both play an important role in child development. I believe that the environment that a person grows up in has the most influence on child development because children reflect what they are taught and what they learn from the people around them.

The topic of nature vs nurture is a very big issue in the world of psychology. Many people believe that nature affects a person more than nurture does, while others believe it's the other way around. It is quite obvious to me that these processes go hand and hand with each other but nurture is the dominant of the two. Nurture is what makes us ultimately who we are not the nature. All the components that go along with nurture such as, childhood experiences, how one was raised, and social relationships, give me reason to believe this.
A huge psychology debate that has been going on for years is called, Nature vs Nurture. We think of nature as pre-writing, the genetics we are born with, and some other biological factors. Nurture is the influence everyone gets through external factors, such as experience and learning. Although, the real question is, can we predict the outcome of a child's behavior due to the past experiences of their parents? I do not believe a child can be born to act like the parents, genetically.

The majority of the focus is broken into three categories: cognitive, physical and social change. The creation of who we are today comes down to the everlasting debate of nature versus nurture. Nature refers to the genetically obtained characteristics and abilities that influence development while nurture refers to the surrounding environmental conditions that influence development. Without one or the other, a child may not develop some important skills, such as communication and walking.
