The Influence Of Gone With The Wind

Introduction: 1. there will have a famous quote from Gone with the Wind at the beginning, which is

“After all tomorrow is another day” (Mitchell 956). The quote give people strength and

so does the novel and film.

2. There will has a short paragraph to introduce the background and influence of Gone

with the Wind novel and film. The resources (Marche, the Racism of 'Gone with the

Wind' Is Still with Us) will be used in this part.

Transaction: There will have two different opinions in reader responses (Megan Book vs. Movie:

Gone With the Wind and “The Problem with the

Gone with the Wind Being the Highest
Grossing Movie of All Time.”) Will be illustrated and explain that “as William
Shakespeare says, there are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people's eyes.” In my
opinion, I think novel is better than film adaptation.
Body: 1. throughout the narrative by words, novel could leave imaginary space to reader;
however, film adaptation cannot. Because film directly shows the “imagination” from
film director. It would limited audience’s critical thinking (“Adaptation: From Novel to
Film”).
2. Film always subject to the limited time, some plots and characters from novel were not
shown on the film adaptation. It will make the film narrative structure not competitive
at all.
3. Novel delivered the thinking and feeling from character, but film adaptation is unable
to do that. For example: Margaret Mitchell spent a long paragraph to describe
character’s psychological activity; however, this part just spent thirty seconds or even
more less in the film. Besides, the psychological activity delivered by actor and actress
behavior or manner. (Books / Films what’s the Difference)
Transaction: the film has a higher reputation and became the biggest Oscar’s winner in that year,
but compare with novel, obviously novel more attractive to people.
Conclusion : describe the last shoot from the film, and go back to the quote which is from the
beginning. No matter people love novel more than the film or love the film more than
the novel, there is no doubt that Gone with the Wind left a treasure house of
intelligence to people.
