The genre of a film is very important to both the audience and director, for an audience the addition of a certain genre allows them to differentiate between style and types of film which means they can pick what they think will be most enjoyable and thus go and see. Directors can be influenced by genres by appealing to what is current and successful at the time so capitalise and make the most profit and as different directors with different styles and ideas take on different genres the genre evolves and changes to create new and unique genres.
Chinatown
The genre of Chinatown is a neo-noir mystery film which has inspired me in many ways to create the type of film I am. The movie itself is considered one of the best noir films to this day.
