You are patiently waiting for the concert to begin, and then the lights dim. You know something wonderful is about to begin, and than you hear it. Recognizing the tune from one of your favorite Disney movies, The Incredibles. On Thursday, March 31, 2016, at 7:30 P.M.. I had the privileged opportunity to attend a Symphonic Concert at Chattanooga State Community College in the Humanities Auditorium. The performers all performed and played beautifully. I loved hearing the harmonics from all of the different instruments. The concert opened with The Incredibles. With a homophonic texture, it kept you on your toes. I loved listening to a familiar song. I couldn’t help but dance a little in my chair. The trumpets were very prominent in this song.

On Wednesday, November 5th, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. the Charlotte Symphony performed seven compositions by various “maverick” composers. Halton Theatre at Central Piedmont Community College’s central campus was pack to near full capacity. The program included the Molto Allegro from Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G-Minor, Warehouse Medicine by Mason Bates, Apotheosis by Austin Wintory, Cielito Lindo a traditional Spanish copla, Oaken Sky by Chris Rogerson, Le Tombeau de Couperin by Maurice Ravel, and the 4th movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5. Charlotte Symphony’s Assistant Conductor, Roger Kalia, conducted and Juan Cajero appeared as a soloist. Although there were several pieces that had a more lasting impression on me, each composition performed
On Tuesday, October 17, 2017, I attended a musical concert. This was the first time I had ever been to a concert and did not play. The concert was not what I expected. I assumed I was going to a symphony that featured a soloist clarinet; however, upon arrival I quickly realized that my previous assumptions were false. My experience was sort of a rollercoaster. One minute I was down and almost asleep; next I was laughing; then I was up and intrigued.
The first band performance of the night was jazz band. The first song was “Alright, Okay, You Win” and I think it sounded great. I feel like I could’ve played out just a little more in the beginning because you can hear my notes but not too well. Jeremy’s solo sounded good and I think that my solo sounded good too. The next song was “Fly Me to the Moon.” I
This concert was certainly a magnificent concert to see. Nature themes dominated the songs and performance, giving the listeners a pleasant and insightful consider something that they might not consider in everyday life. With individuals in the modern world being so busy nowadays, it is often hard to appreciate and think about the simplicities of life and what the earth has provided us, whether it be through the trill of a songbird or the rolling waves of an ocean. With this performance, the listener could do so, even if it was only for a little while. If the choir had not performed the pitch, melody, rhythm, and harmony to the extent that they did, it would have been much harder to convey such a magical tone to the entire concert. This concert shone in the simplicities it occupied, providing a wonderful and beautiful show for everyone in the audience.
Before the actual performance began music was played. I thought nothing of it assuming it was music to simply hold the crowd. And also I under was the impression that this would end once the show began but to my surprise this featured music was ...
I attended the Jazz Ensembles Concert on Wednesday, September the 30th at the Griffin Concert Hall. The show was divided into two sections, Jazz Ensembles II which was directed by Will Swindler and Jazz Ensembles I which was directed by Peter Sommer. The music in the both shows were inspired by the work of the bandleader of Jazz orchestras that is Duke Ellington. The concert hall was filled with people following their passion for Jazz, expecting a state of the art performance by the ensembles whom did not disappoint by carrying an outstanding display throughout the show. The atmosphere at the hall was extraordinary as the attendance truly unveiled their excitement and love for jazz with continuous support and applause of every piece of art. It was the first time for me to attend a Jazz concert and I enjoyed it a lot, both ensembles made my experience unforgettable and made me appreciate the jazz genre a lot more.
On December 14, 2017 I attended the CVHS Christmas Concert “The Joy of Christmas” in the Canyon View High School auditorium. The production was put on by the Canyon View High School Music Department and featured bands, orchestras, and choirs.
Physical setting; built in 1932 and was originally owned by Union Pacific Railroad and later occupied by Yellow Freight Distribution, whose sign still hangs next to the female restrooms. From the exterior of the building I, noticed the long wooden open deck area that leads into the event stage area, full of neon lights. Inside the famous ice house, a big wooden square bar full of various kinds of liquor and a blue sign that read independent ice company as I passed through the two glass doors and took several steps, I noticed the ordering area for the amazing food it serves and the square style indoor full of sports memorabilia next to the booth. The long narrow hall way that lead to the boy’s restroom was full of autographed pictures from groups that had
On October 19th at around 7 pm, I waited outside a relatively small, worn down building known as Walter’s Downtown, which is located in Down Town Houston. As I walked through the entrance, I was astonished how the front of the building seemed like a regular old music shop with records and guitars on the wall, and a glass showcase. While the back of the building was appropriately bigger in size and contained black and white murals on the wall, red couches, a bar, and a stage for musicians to perform. When I saw the musicians, they were dressed in a business casual apparel, with plaid button ups and blue jeans. The musical compositions that struck me the most include: “To be Dead and in Love” by Vinnie Caruana and “You Don’t Love Me Anymore” by Aaron
On the evening of November 31, 2016, the Lee University Wind Ensemble held a concert in the Conn Center. Noteworthy of the Conn Center, is its architectural design. From the acoustical panels that line the walls to the theatre seating, the building is designed for optimum musical deliveries. Furthermore, the atmosphere was set by the Christmas decorations and the orchestra’s formal attire. In fact, this performance was quite extraordinary and joyful. Next, there were four conductors on this evening. David Holsinger was the Conductor, Winona Holsinger was the Associate Conductor and two graduate conductors, Tim Linley and Seok Keun. Of the four conductors, my favorite was David Holsinger. Of course, this could be due to his being the primary orator for the concert
Even though a concert performance only lasts minutes, it takes hours to make happen. There are a lot of actions that have to be taken off stage both on the night of and in the weeks before. Musicians have to practice and people have to set up the vista. The three integral parts to making a performance a success are the preparation, the performance, and feedback.
I have few concrete memories of my first concert experience and although many of the details elude me, it still left a deep, lasting impression on me all these years later. It wasn’t that it was a good or bad concert, per se, it was the situation and circumstances that are fuzzy.
Our first performance seemed like a blur as I know we played it, but my mind only recalls the first screams from the sold-out crowd of what seemed to me all young girls. From there all I heard was more screaming and more applause. Now my mind is focused on the reality of all my dreams of adoring fans, girls, music, girls and more music.
Waiting, begging, persuading are just a few of the elements I used before concert week. I bought tickets for two concerts that were within two days of each other! From Columbus on Tuesday to Cleveland on Friday, what else could I ask for? Many adventures ensued from this week. However, there were also some unexpected adventures as well.
