THE IMPORTANCE OF A FAMILY
Having a loving family is something that no child should live without. A loving family helps shape your personality, and also helps instil good decision making in you. They also act as your support system, when you are going through hard times. Lastly, they teach you about your heritage and culture, this helps create a sense of belonging. These are just a few reasons why having a loving family is something every child should have. This theme is shown through THE FARMING OF BONES written by Edwidge Danticat.
A supportive family helps shape your personality and instils good decision making in you. In THE FARMING OF BONES the main character Amabelle was abandoned by her family when she was little. Even thought she was adopted by another family, they never treated her like she belonged. When Amabelle was 13 she was beaten by the local convenience owner for stealing a bottle of pop. Her adoptive family did not care about this incident. Amabelle began abusing drugs and alcohol in her teens to get the attention of her adoptive family but this only lead them to care even less about her. In this quote Amabelle says that she feels lost and that she doesn’t care if she lies, cheats or steals “I don’t know why god has chosen this life for me. This is all I know. My heart aches with sadness and the only way I know how to relieve myself from all this pain is to drink my way out of it. This is how my life has been shaped, looking for a way to get my next fix” (Chapter 6. 134-135). Throughout this story Amabelle has struggled with finding herself and trying to turn her life around. If she had a supportive family, they could have guide her in distinguishes between right and wrong and also could...

Or specifically, the title, “the Farming of Bones”, and mentioned also in the book, talking about how because after a day in the heat of the fields, dodging snakes and rats, brushing up against the razor sharp edges of the sugar cane, the workers find their skin is shredded, their bones being, “closer to the surface than the day before.” Another one being when there was talk about the massacre between men, when a man stood and said,”I’m one of those trees whose roots reach the bottom of the earth. They can cut down branches, but they will never uproot the tree. The roots are too strong and there are too many.” There are also inferences, I believe in the beginning when they talk about, when Seora Valencia gives birth to twins and when the doctor finally arrives to check on the newborns' health, he says to Amabelle, "Many of us start out as twins in the belly and do away with the other.
Russell Bank’s Rule of the Bone shows the intriguing life of the anti-hero, Chappie. Along with his transformation into Bone, one of the main themes in the book is Chappie’s journey in finding a new family. This book really embodies the everlasting saying that “friends become our chosen family”. Bank first shows Chappie leaving his home to him finally finding a family by alluding to Jews and Native Americans, Peter Pan, and Bambi.
Imagine being in a family that is broken apart because of a difficulty, would you rather stay strong for the sake of the family, or feel weak? Obstacles can seem so obvious, so numerous, and so arduous to change. It requires great determination and effort just to overcome one. When you have a supportive family by your side and all you have is each other, it is going to be easier and less painful if you endure it and think positive. Therefore, families that love each other enough can overcome any obstacle, because they draw their strength from each other.
You cannot change them, you cannot pick them, everyone has one and for many it is a very important part of their life. Many people have strong family ties. Nothing effects a child 's life more than family. A child 's values, their first moments of life, their first relationships. With a relationship like this, it leads people to do things they normally wouldn 't do. They make sacrifices that would be hard to explain if you did not understand the importance of family. We are specifically talking about the dynamic between two people like mother and daughter, or between two brothers. These relationships develop from growing up with the support, connection, and care that most families have. Louise Erdrich 's “The Red Convertible” highlights the
We do not born with a set of identities, attitudes or values, eventually we started to develop those from our parents and family. We do not only learn from their teachings or sayings but also by observing them. If we grew up in environment where were loved, protected, and had high standards and expectations, we would learn to love and appreciate. Therefore, in our family, where we experience ideal conditions, we are more likely to be confident, content, and consistent. "Different studies of children and teens growing up in tough, poor neighborhoods show that parental warmth is associated with both social and academic competence" (Masten and Coatswaorth 209). Thus, secure family environmen...
To me, family is the most important thing in my life. They always encourage me to be the best I can be and nothing more. A quote that I think describes family to me is one by Alex Haley that states, “In every conceivable manner, the family is the link to our past, and bridge to our future.” Through the stories I hear from my mother and grandmother, I have a clear link to my families past and the generation of women that led to me. All the values these women held close to them throughout the years have led to the formation of myself and my values. Over the past three generations, the women in my family have overcome oppression. My mother, growing up in a time where women could never have aspirations to be CEO’s or politicians, somehow came out stronger. She saw what she didn’t want for her future, and jumped at the chance to start a new life in America. No single model of family life characterizes the American family, despite ideological beliefs to the contrary (Andersen). My family couldn’t be labeled an “Italian family” or an “American family.” We are a mix of the two cultures and ideologies, which is what makes us different. I am the first women in my mother’s family to be born and raised in America. My great grandmother had a complete different childhood and adolescence experience than I yet we still have a common cultural base. All her ideals were passed onto my grandmother, than all the down to me, a hundred years in the making to become who I am
Aubery Tanqueray, a self-made man, is a Widower at the age of Forty two with a beautiful teenage daughter, Ellean whom he seems very protective over. His deceased wife, the first Mrs. Tanqueray was "an iceberg," stiff, and assertive, alive as well as dead (13). She had ironically died of a fever "the only warmth, I believe, that ever came to that woman's body" (14). Now alone because his daughter is away at a nunnery he's found someone that can add a little life to his elite, high class existence; a little someone, we learn, that has a past that doesn't quite fit in with the rest of his friends.
I live at home with both of my parents, my second oldest brother, and occasionally my oldest brother and niece visit as well. I grew up with the concept from both of my parents that family is important, no matter what family always comes first. My father showed me this concept in many situations like working all across the country and having to stay away from home to provide. Or even before he had a family and immigrated to the United States so his future family could have a better life. Because of the concept that family comes from, my family is very important to me.
When the word “family” is discussed, most people think of mothers, fathers, and other siblings. Some people think of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even cousins and more on the pedigree tree. Without family in people's lives, they would not be the same people that they grew up to be today and in the future. When people hear the word family they think about, the ones who will help them in any way they can whether it’s money, support, advice, or anything to help them succeed in life. Family will forever be the backbone of support.
Family is a value that my father taught me. He told me that family is
What is a family? A family is two or more people consider themselves to be blood related, or related by marriage, or adoption. Our families are who we love. We as families look different in so many ways. A family’s caregiving unit might have a couple, a mother, a father, and children. A family could also be a single parent and child, a group of siblings, a small or large group of friends. A family defines itself in many different ways. Families are the foundation of how our society and how it works. It is how we come into the world and nurtured and given the tools that we need to go out into our world. We are both capable and healthy or not our families influence our lives either in a good way or a bad way. While families
Families provide people with an atmosphere in which to live, grow, and develop. A family culture is established by the parents and instilled in the children during their upbringing. A healthy family is a family which follows a set of strong morals, stays loyal to one another, cooperates, and works together to avoid conflict. An environment where there is openness amongst family members is ideal because minds that are open are more susceptible to avoiding conflict than minds that are closed. If conflict gets the best of a family, it has the potential to increase hostility and create remoteness between family members, however, if a family resolves conflict, it can strengthen and enforce the family relationships.
There are a lot of different cultures in the world we live in today. Finding the place you belong and discovering your own culture can be a challenge. This is especially true when you look at culture as an individual versus culture in your family, or even within your community. I’ve always been very family oriented, so that plays a big part in who I am and how my family’s dynamic works. I believe that my family has had a huge impact on the development of my culture, and I hope that I have had the same impact on theirs.
My family is a love I have. My immediate family consists of six people: my dad, mom, and three sisters and me. However, I love these people on a different scale than I love books. Whether it is a hand to guide, a tissue to wipe away tears, or simply a smile to make my day better I can count on people to love me and so, henceforth, I love them in return. I love my parents for many reasons. They are always there for me when I need help or am need of anything.
It is a source of comfort, support, security, and protection. Family helps make sense of the world by allowing one to feel unique and special and be encouraged to follow their dreams and to succeed at life. Families will experience life differently but it should be a safe place that opinions can be expressed openly and each member be made to feel important. While college will provide academic lessons in life, the lessons learned from family will directly affect one's personal values and behaviors. Every stage of life presents joys and challenges. Relationships teach how to cope with those joys and challenges and boost the ability to reach life
