What is Time Management? Time management is not showing up to class on time, homework in hand, finished 10 minutes before class started. Nor is it showing up to class on time, homework in hand, finished the night before. Time management is knowing that there is a paper due in two months, and planning ahead in small, bite-sized chunks to complete it on time, keep your sanity, and still do everything else you want to do in college. It is not boring yourself to death figuring out schedules for months in advance when your plans change day by day, but the art of fitting in everything you want and need to do, both as part of the college experience and beyond, without undue stress or allowing basic needs to fall by the wayside. Now, if you can describe exactly how you spent all of your time yesterday, good for you! For the rest of us, if you struggle to remember what you did, never have enough hours in a day, or do not remember where the hours between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. went, then it is time to start learning this essential skill. A strong foundation in time management skills will not only allow you to perform better in college but improve your ability to accomplish great deeds. After all, you cannot fit 27 hours of work into one day! You start learning time management by first learning about yourself. There is no need to worry about …show more content…
Begin with concrete times that you have very little control over. Fill in your class times, lunch time, and when you need to wake up to go to class. What time should you be getting to sleep? This is going to depend on you being honest with yourself. A little less than eight hours of sleep per night is average for most adults (“What Are We Doing?” 60). It does not matter if you need more or less time to get a good night’s rest, but you should go to bed at whatever time allows you to feel fully awake and functional for the next
The importance of being on time in the military (or anywhere at all), is simply a symptom of discipline, which was instilled in new enlisted soldiers during basic training. Being on time shows reliability. We have to show discipline, responsibility, show care through following military rules and regulations. Being on time not only pertains to accountability, but shows respect to our fellow soldiers, our unit, command and organization as a whole. Being on time also will avoid any disciplinary actions that may hinder you from reaching your goals. Being on time may have a greater importance and effect, than we may know. Being on time enables us to be able to trust and rely on each other in life and death situations. Last but not least, it shows that we will be able and ready to capitalize on our capabilities to complete our missions. It is not acceptable to be late (except when involving safety limitations), because missions and operations are interlocking pieces that must function together as a whole in order for it to work in a timely manner. All successful and respective people all have one common attribute, and this is knowing and exhibiting the importance of being on time.
There are many ways to improve managing your time wisely and be accountable for it. The first step of improving your time wisely is to have a good rest the day before. By doing this you will have enough energy to last you the next following day. Also, sleeping late is not a good way of time management. Sleeping late will only result to not waking up on time and where you have to be. Sleeping will help both our body and mind to recover from the day’s activities. Another way of improving time management

Looking at my own approach to time management I have noticed that I am well organised and good at prioritising tasks and jobs. When I log onto my computer to start my shift I am sent down numerous jobs, each job is different and has different deadlines for attendance and completion. I plan my day based around the date and time deadlines of the jobs and also the locations of the jobs. I then schedule the most effective order of completing the jobs, putting high priority jobs at the top of my list and grouping sites that are geographically close to each other. By effectively planning my day I keep a focused attitude towards my work and I have time to think about tasks and situations, rather tha...
Often times, humans are said to be living in the past and are consciously ignoring what the future has in store. While this may be true in some regards, isn’t it technically impossible for one to live their life entirely in the past? Realistically speaking, humans as a whole could never live their lives in the past. Events happen, things change, and time goes on. However the phrase does have an underlying meaning, something that proves true time and time again. As William Faulkner has once said, “the past is never dead, in fact it’s never over,” events in history are long from ever being finished. Events, from both current and present times, are constantly influencing how our lives behave the next minute. But this all still seems a bit confusing, how could one fully grasp the idea behind William Faulkner’s quote?
Time management skills develop over time and not all methods work for everyone. For instance, some students may need visual methods such as schedules or calendars they can post on their walls or doors to keep track of their time. Others may use computer programs that alert them of tasks and events. The objective is to find a tool that works for students. “Time management includes setting goals, meeting deadlines, using time management aids such as list making, coping with change, making plans, and effectively organizing one's time ( Roberts and et al, 2006).” (Nadinloyi, 2013) When analyzing time spent on activities, students should start by writing down activities and dates. For example, writing down tests dates, homework assignments and project due dates is a great way to keep up on school work. Students who make plans to complete activities are more likely to stay

Seeing that Time Management is imperative when it comes to college and success, recognizing bad habits, should be one of the first obstructions immediately eliminated from your daily schedule. Create new habits if you tend to procrastinate and start planning ahead to manage your most important priorities. According to David Allen (2001),"Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity" (p.59) "changes in the way you clarify and organize all things that command your attention-could represent a significant shift in how you approach some key aspects of your day to day work." Setting up deadlines and completing your assignments a few days before the due date will eliminate the procrastination stage. Creating a list with the most important priorities first, will help sort out your assignments and eliminate stress and feeling overwhelmed.
First things first to succeed in college: never get behind. Being behind messes up your whole routine and just overall is stressful. Not only does it bring stress upon you, but also to the teacher. Consequently, you should always have a hard work ethic and present each assignment on time. Waiting until the last minute to do assignments, also, isn’t a bright idea. Most of the time if you are rushing, you aren’t thinking correctly and it completely messes up your train of thought. An example of where this can occur, are with essays. There’s no way that essays can be done overnight. Nevertheless, if it is done it’s most likely not properly prepared. All the steps that go into the process of writing need lots of time to achieve. Therefore, never should you only take a night’s worth of time to

Time management is not a new idea and many methods have been proposed regarding the best way to handle time management issues for business students. These suggestions can often be quite simple, such as writing down lists of things to do in order to support people in making good use of their time for work or recreational purposes. When time pressures are high, planning tasks and actions does not always lead to the completion of the work. It is in recognition of this that time management training programs have been designed, aiming to give an insight into the time required for activities, ways to make time plans, and increasing the efficiency of people by teaching them how to plan properly, how to prioritize tasks, and how to handle unexpected tasks. This is increasingly easy, particularly for students, as “books, articles, and time management training programs that were initially developed for managers have been made available to everyone”.(Claessens, Brigitte J.C. 2004).
