Suicide is a major complex tragedy that happens frequently throughout our world. Suicide is a very serious problem in today`s world. One might wonder what would make someone try to take their own life. Many cases of suicide are caused by bullying. Other cases include depression and not feeling loved or not feeling wanted. According to the organization SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education),” Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States for all ages.” Also, “Every day, approximately 105 Americans die from suicide.” What ways could other people prevent someone from taking their own life? What obstacles can prevent someone from getting help? What roles should schools, family, friends, or other institutions play in recognizing those who are at risk and how would they go about doing that? A person who is suicidal may not ask for help, but that does not mean that help is not wanted. People that commit suicide do not want to die, they just want to stop hurting. One factor that schools can do to prevent suicide is to train their staff on how to deal with and understand depression. Depression is one major factor that is closely linked to suicide. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about 10.7 percent of Americans ages 12 to 17 has had a major depressive disorder in 2013. The school staff should be aware of the signs of depression and know what to offer to the victims and their families. Things that the school could offer to the victims and their families are family therapy and behavioral therapy. Another factor that schools can do to help with suicide prevention is to help the students feel connected. Researchers have found that students who believe teachers and parents care about them personally as well as their success within the school and community are less likely to commit
