Social workers have an important and valuable job when working with the at-risk and disempowered population. For a social worker to provide their skills they must they must understand the importance and power that they may have on someone’s life. Each word and action has significance importance when working with these clients. An important reminder for a social worker to remember is that everyone will need a hero or someone that can help lift them up from a difficult situation. It is important to take the positive out of every person so that a social worker can become a superhero (Scheyett, 2015). An example of the ethical principle is the value of service. Service basically states that the goal should revolve around helping others and finding ways to tackle social problems. Volunteering is a great way to get involved with service (Code of Ethics, 2017). Service starts way before someone becomes a professional social worker. It is a great way to see if social work is a passion someone should pursue. It is also important to understand that becoming a social work means it will take time time and energy outside of the work place to get work done and to promote what is right in the community. Another ethical principle that would involve extra time and energy is social justice. Social justice is when social workers want change that will overall help the more vulnerable. They want to provide all they can for their clients and sometimes that involves activism (Code of Ethics, 2017). From marching on the street to writing letters to the government, standing up for clients and others must be done in order to make sure people are not being taken advantage of.
