1) Small businesses are the cornerstone of the American economy, having comprised 46% of the country’s private nonfarm GDP in 2008 (Kobe, 2). We underestimate the importance of even the smallest of businesses, from the local grocery stores we buy our milk and eggs at, to the mom and pop shops that litter the avenues and boulevards of our small towns, catering to the communities that support them. Small businesses are all around us, they encapsulate our everyday lives. As a matter of fact, I would wager the average successful entrepreneur works more hours than your typical full-time worker. It is most definitely a labor of love, and one that requires an intense amount of dedication. It does not generally offer the safety and financial security of a typical job, especially when starting out. But with small businesses we often see a bit more leeway when it comes to promotions, sales, or general consumer interaction. You’d be hard pressed to go into a major store, ask politely for a discount, and get it. Whereas with a small business you may just get one for speaking with the owner about your day. They offer personality and comradery.
These are advantages seen from the consumer side, but I feel that it is only fair to mention the advantages of being an owner. Undertaking an entrepreneurial lifestyle was a large decision for me, and continues to test my skills as a business man, and even my character, but it is something I feel is worth its weight in gold. Running a business allows you to meet and work with a variety of people you would have never met otherwise, solve problems and brainstorm solutions that never may have occurred to you, and make decisions that do not come up in everyday

Even though people believe that local businesses are not as beneficial as a big box store, buying locally not only benefits the business but also the community, buying locally builds a strong community and the money you spend at a local business gets put back into the community. People should realize how much a local business affects the community and that they need the community members support to keep them in business so that they are able to contribute to the community and help it grow for many years to come, keeping the sense of community and seeing people interact and get to know their fellow neighbors is the biggest goal a local business owner wants to

Five advantages for owning your own business are: 1) The owner receives all profits, meaning that all earnings go to the sole proprietor, or the owner, and isn’t shared with anyone else. The profit is not split among partners, or split among a corporation. So when you own your own business, you’re the first and only one that receives all earnings and profit. So if a person has a successful firm, he/she is the first to reap the success and rewards. 2) Another advantage of owning your own business is that you’re your own boss. You can set your own hours, decide what you want to do with the company, no manager to answer to. Basically, you’re in charge of everything. The owner solely makes all decisions. Or in other words, you’re running the show. 3) An additional advantage is that a sole proprietorship can be easily organized. It’s easy to start your own business. First of all, it costs very little money to start your own business. As a sole proprietor, you have minimal legal requirements. The owner doesn’t have to establish a separate legal entity. All that is needed is to register the company with the state and apply for an occupational license and any additional licenses required for the state. ...
Teams have been around for many years. It is vital for members who are a part of any team to work together so that their labor is not in vain. A major advantage for working cohesively as teams is greater output and interpersonal skills. The drawback of not working in uniformity can lead to project delays and time constraints. Organizations create teams with the purpose of fulfilling certain obligations and acquiring business success. Roming (1996) states that togetherness and dependability means that members within the team assist each other and the team. Which in turn, yields a better-quality product.
The success of a business is greatly dependent on its entrepreneur. An entrepreneur is someone who takes the financial risk of starting and managing a new business venture. In order to be a successful entrepreneur, one must be ready to take a risk and invest one’s own savings into a business. The job requires that the individual be ambitious and committed to working hard in order to achieve the set targets. A successful entrepreneur is able to multi-task and communicates effectively with people, possessing leadership qualities such as confidence and motivation. The individual must play the role of constant motivator and inspire employees to improve their work performance, whilst ensuring a comfortable environment for the employees to work in. According to Schumpeter (1982), an entrepreneur is more of a ‘heroic’ than an ‘economic’ figure; his motivation should not solely be monetary, rather stemming more from inspiration and ambition.
Over the course of the semester, I have learned a few things about myself. I have learned that I can be independent, I always knew myself as someone who could do mostly everything on their own. This semester really made me realize how independent I could actually be. Not only have I learned how independent I am I have also realized the importance of time management. With not having a strict class schedule it was a lot different than what I was originally used to. After a few weeks, I learned ways that would work best for me, for example writing down that I needed to get done. I learned that I need to focus on what 's ahead of me to accomplish what I want to succeed in, to manage what needs to be done ahead of time to stay caught up.
