“The ultimate goal for school-home communication is high standards for student achievement. Communication is effective when it contributes to parent and family involvement toward that end.” (AFT, 2012. p.55). In schools there are a plethora of steps that can be implemented to improve this type of dialogue. School and home communication is a big issue in many schools. Parent and teacher schedules are often times very hectic. So what can we do to make this more of a priority? My school does a great job as we are very flexible in meeting the parents around their work schedule. We continue to call home almost daily regarding any issues the student might be having. Working together and making parent involvement a priority can be done by having a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) in my school. We work with children with special needs and the benefits of having this I believe would be great in our school. In the article “13 Ways a Parent Teacher Association Can Help a Student with Special Needs” by Karen Wang she describes what a PTA does. She writes, “The PTA does whatever the school needs to be done. Some PTA activities do not cost anything except volunteer hours, for example, providing volunteers to help students check out library books, or to help the office staff check in late students and deliver lost lunchboxes in the morning. Most PTA activities require funding, especially academic enrichment and extracurricular support. For these efforts, the PTA raises funds through carnivals, silent auctions, book fairs, membership drives, corporate sponsorship, grants from private foundations and other creative methods.” (Wang, 2015) This would be a great to have in our building as it would lay the foundation to increasing parent involvement and making communication much easier. I feel some of these activities are things families can participate in together. I feel if parents ran these event turnout may be much better than if the school was to do it alone. School staff and Parents would collaborate on the most essential needs to that building and make it more of a priority. PTA members would assist teachers in running events, tutoring students, and offering parent to parent support by communicating with other parents by answering questions or concerns they may have about the

With the addition of globalization, the world has become a tech freak in communications via email and phones. Therefore as a paraprofessional, you will require three critically essential tasks as a good communicator. First, it is important to make phone calls to parents whenever the student is have a fantastic day, if you were to simply call just when there seemed to be behavioral problems. The students would practically face less consequences and the frequency of the unwanted behavior doesn’t change. Always communicate with the parents on good and bad days. Second, if a parent doesn’t respond to a phone call, at least leave a voice mail, and if that doesn’t seem to work, then start sending letter home. Multiple means of communication sets a good reputation of who you are. Also those messages are bound to reach the parents at some point. Third, when a parent is upset for some reason, make sure to give the proper space and communicate in manner that is always positive. A mad parent will talk negatively to other parents about you and that will give a bad impression of who you are. By having school board meetings, it helps to see what the school’s needs. This is very important for the reason that this may be the only time that a concern parent or person voice might be heard. From this meeting, it was learned that the school board members are willing to help people that have concerns. An example, of this, was when the concern Pre-K parent was worried that she heard that Pre-K has been just a daycare. However, someone from the board mentioned to her that she would personally go with the parent the next day and show her how Pre-K is running during the day. This made the parent so happy because her concerns were being met. Families who receive consistent information about their children 's school performance, have a higher degree of commitment to helping children improve .When families and schools are on the same page, they can have a more concrete discussion around student progress to establish realistic goals and plans to support student achievement . I strive to have frequent contact with all families and use flexible communication strategies through multiple channels including written and printed materials (e.g. personal notes, newsletters), telephone conversation, email exchange, social media (e.g. facebook, twitter) and face-to-face conferences depending on the nature of information and families’ preference. The Home to School Connection is an essential component to having a successful and effective school year for each individual student. Establishing a parent-teacher relationship helps improve many things. It gives parents an opportunity to show interest in their child's education. As the population in public schools increase, the problems in these schools are also on the rise. These changes are leasing to the way parents are schooling their children. Many parents are leaning towards homeschooling as a solution to this problem. This increase in homeschooling can be directly related to an increase in school violence, the offering of a lack luster curriculum, and lack of student teacher interaction.
ABSTRACT: Home schooling is a controversial topic among educators. The issues that follow a child throughout their educational and social lives, are elevated when a child has been home schooled. There is no social environment for the child to learn to develop basic social skills; most home schooling environments are made up of a child, perhaps accompanied by a sibling, and the parent teaching the information given. There is no room for a developed personality that is constant with a child of equal age and grade in a normal schooling environment. Other problems include the quality of the teacher, lack of practice for standardized testing, bias grades, inconstant laws on home schooling from state to state, the overall education of a home schooled child, and the quality of the teacher. All these problems are explored, and discussed with in this essay.
Communication is important in relationships as it allows us to share our interest, concerns, support each other; organize our lives and make decisions; and it allows us to work together. Research shows that children do better in school when parents talk often with teachers and become involved.
