Although refugees need to come to America, they should be examined thoroughly first. If someone were to be sick, they could spread the sickness to America. There are many contagious diseases you can get in Africa. HIV/AIDS is very common in Africa, and it causes thousands of deaths per year. In 2012 the conducted a study that showed the deaths per 100,000 people per year. 122 people died from HIV/AIDS in 2012. In the same study they found that 68 people died from diarrhoeal diseases in the same group of 100,000 people. In the whole study 407 people died in total of 10 diseases. Sickness isn’t the only thing that could harm America. There are also many mental illnesses that could cause people to harm others. Half of the population is under
The three topics I picked are gender, race, and religion. However, my views on these subjects have not changed because I considered myself to be a very open-minded person. After reading "The Berdache Tradition" I learned that the several Native American tribes had a different kind of cultural construction of gender within their group. I was very fond of their origin myth that was about several worlds and crossing over them to find equal ground for everyone. I found this reading to be very interesting because it seems that no one takes the chance to mention the subject of having more than one gender. Usually people are focused on physical differences of sex and the expectations that are associated with gender. The same goes for the group in
The one major disease that I will be discussing is pneumonia. In January of 2016 United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and global partners decided to launch a campaign to increase the funding of interventions for pneumonia, and also make changes to policies that would strengthen the treatment for this deadly disease. This disease has definitely created a burden on the population of Africa, affecting more than 490,000 children that were under the age of five. As you can see pneumonia plays a huge role on this population burden, and also explains why the under-five mortality rate in so high in Africa.
Immigration has been part of America since before the 17th century. America has evolved into what it is today due to immigration; however immigration as negative effects as well. Immigration is the building blocks for America. Every one that lives in America today are here because their ancestors immigrated here long ago. Over the years immigration as evolved into a more sophisticated matter. There are many laws they have been put in place to monitor and stop immigration. Immigration I a big factor in America but must be done correctly to insure Americas safety.
The impact of AIDS on the region is such that it is now affecting demographics - changing mortality and fertility rates, reducing lifespan, and ultimately affecting population growth. Although Africa is the region of the world hardest hit by AIDS, and although no country has entirely escaped the virus, prevalence rates vary dramatically between regions, countries, and even within countries. In general, the southern region is the most affected, with Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe showing the highest rates, while West Africa has been less affected.
Today, there are over 65 million refugees in the world. That means that one in every 113 people in the world is a refugee. To many, this number may seem extremely alarming. Many refugees struggle to find a place to resettle. America, along with other developed countries, has often been considered dreamland for these displaced people, making many wanting to get out of their war-torn houses and camps. Refugees immigrating to America have been displaced from their original homes, face frustrating immigration policies, and have difficulties starting a new life in a new land.
There are so many types of mental illnesses that affect people every day. When some people think of mental illnesses they think of the ones that would cause people to have physical symptoms as well, but that’s untrue, there are many more that you would never know anyone has if you were to see them on the street. As defined by the 2008 encyclopedia “a mental illness is any disease of the mind or brain that seriously affects a person’s ability or behavior. Symptoms of a mental illness may include extreme moods, such as excessive sadness or anxiety, or a decreased ability to think clearly or remember well.” A mentally ill person has severe symptoms that damage the person’s ability to function in everyday activities and situations. Every nation and every economic level can be affected by a mental illness. In the United States alone about 3% of the population has severe mental illness and to add to that number about 40% of people will experience a type of mental illness at least once in their lives. Some cases of mental illnesses can go away on their own, but some cases are so severe that they require professional treatment. There is so much more available to help people recover from their symptoms than in the past.
Throughout our history, persons fleeing their country to seek asylum elsewhere is not new to us. The job of policy makers and government officials is to enact laws that will accommodate these people and allow them to have a smooth transition into new societies. The necessities that refugees need stretches beyond the basic food, shelter and water. In addition to that, they need proper humanitarian care. That includes the same civil rights that us citizens have.
Out in the world a lot of people are suffering especially refugees. I believe that we should allow refugees to come America. There are many benefits of them coming to live in America as well. One is we would have a bigger population. Now you may be saying “What about an overpopulation?” and to that I say, well you can just send them to live where you want and plain out tell them that you need them to live there so if they don’t like it they can go somewhere else. Although i doubt we’ll ever need that.
When I arrived in New York City, an employee of the office of immigration affairs was present to receive a batch of immigrants. He led me to the office of immigration affairs and presented me with plenty of options on how to begin my life in the United States and claim the ideals of “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” for myself (Alchin). For the time being I may either pick up a low paying job in one of New York’s many businesses, search for work in the myriad of low skilled industrial factories, or seek out opportunities in agriculture. I believe my safest bet is to continue working in rural agriculture and It is said the farm wages in the United States are five times as large as those in England, which is very fortunate for me
The AIDS virus is the most common disease, and with no cure, an infected person will die. It is estimated that 90 to 95 percent of AIDS infections occur in developing countries where the world’s worst living conditions exist.
Throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and even until today, the United States has been a top destination for refugees. Despite our physical isolation from most of the rest of the world, we simply have the space and capabilities to deal with asylum seekers more so than most other nations worldwide. Our nation as we know it was essentially founded by these refugees, individuals coming from Europe to seek prosecution based on religious and ideological persecution. However, our national mindset as certainly changed since then. Now, refugee issues are far more contentious, especially recently. Due to the large volume of those trying to seek asylum within our boarders, we have several programs in place to ensure that we are only admitting those who need to be admitted and that once they arrive, they won’t end up trapped in dangerous and under regulated campsites. These programs include everything from unaccompanied children, to health promotion, and microenterprise development among other things. One of the largest, oldest, and most influential programs is
a topic of great debate for many years, both in the UK and across many
U.S. immigration law is very complex, and there is much uncertainty as to how it works. The Immigration and Naturalization Act (INA), the body of law governing current immigration policy, provides for an annual worldwide limit of 675,000 permanent immigrants, with certain exceptions for close family members ("How the United States Immigration System Works: A Fact Sheet"). Around the world there are so many immigrants/refugees who are in the hunt for a fitter life. Some come from places where civil war occurs or some suffer economically trying to support their family. Knowing the fact that they are desperate to seek for a better life, the best option is to migrate to the U.S, the land of opportunities. The problem lies in the migration to the U.S. What are the quotas for new immigrants arriving to the U.S? What are the eligibility requirements to becoming a permanent citizen in the U.S? With much inquiry, this topic has become very intriguing. What people must understand is that
The Centers for disease control (CDC) has declared AIDS a global pandemic. No one person or group is safe from contracting this virus; knowledge, and safety is the only way you can protect yourself. However, the first black South African diagnosed with AIDS was in 1987, and currently South Africa is home to over 5.7 million people living with HIV/AIDS, making it the largest population on earth with people infected. Over 3.7% of the population have HIV. More than 210,000 people died from AIDS in Nigeria. The three main reason for the transmission of HIV is blood transfusions, heterosexual sex and mother to child. Compared to Swaziland, Nigeria is not too far from becoming number the number one highest ranked country with HIV/AIDS. D. Literacy Rate Nigeria has a literacy rate of 60%.
