The amount of waste Americans produce is averaged out to one million pounds per person a year. That is 680 pounds of paper and 185 pounds of plastic. Think of how much of those products could be saved just by the simple switch to recycling. Recycling is a great way to save these reusable products and keep the air clean for every person living. The city of New Prague should be a part of this process by placing more recycling bins around town for it conserves the natural resources we use everyday, reduces the amount of waste towards landfills, and creates more green jobs.
Recycling can have a large impact on the way we produce our everyday products. Recycling helps the environment by conserving the natural resources we use everyday. Since the

town of New Prague is so small, we do not have the money that we would need to be able to produce and contribute to the making of all new products. The amount of energy it takes to recycle items is a much less cost than the amount it takes to manufacture products from scratch. (Pullen). Placing recycling bins will decrease the cost of making new items and preserve our natural resources. Many times those natural resources are our very needed wood and water. Using wood to make more new products has a much greater consumption rate than if we were to use recycled pulp to help create paper (Pullen). This had a large impact on how much water were wasting in making new paper. In 2010 63.5% of all US paper has been recovered and has used 40% less energy than what producing new paper would use and also saved seven thousand gallons of water per the ton of new paper that was reproduced. (Brenda Pulley). Preserving these resources is a necessity that our town needs because trees and water are too things we do need the most in life. Recycling bins around town will also reduce the amount of waste put towards landfills and pollution.
Landfill liners are only 1/10 of an inch thick. That is 1/10 of an inch away from all of that filth and waste spilling onto the ground and polluting the air and land around it. The U.S. has well over 3,090 active landfills. Two of the closest one to New Prague are our very own Lakers Sanitary and a landfill in the town of Lakeville. For many people living here, that is way too close. It is also an uncomfortable feeling knowing that many of these landfills are overflowing and beginning to weigh large amounts. Around five years ago the amount of trash that overfilled our landfills here in America was equal to the weight of more than 88 million million cars. That is near 254 billion pounds of trash and waste. (Brenda Pulley) (“Recycling Facts & Stats - Recycling in General.”). Recycling bins around town is one strong was to reduce that amount of waste sitting there. Many of the items sitting in the landfills are products that are not biodegradable and just sit and slowly decompose releasing gasses in the air that are toxic to human kind(Pullen)(Kukreja). How fun is it knowing that the air around you if filled with toxins? Those toxins can be reduced greatly when we recycle, keeping seventy tons of waste being dumped into the landfills per year.(Sponaugle). With less waste there is in addition way less land needed to hold it there. Recycling can make just a huge difference with …show more content…
staying clear of toxic gases and preserving our land. Another great effect from recycling is that within doing so, it creates a wide variety of green jobs for Americans.
Recycling will create a vast amount of jobs around the country today and in the future. According to the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) over 2.3 million jobs will be created due to the process of recycling by 2030. (Vijayaraghavan). Of course not every job will be taken, but it does give many people the option of taking on one of the many roles that are constructed. There are three main jobs created from recycling: collecting/processing/preparing the materials, manufacturing new products from the recycled materials, and the reuse remanufacturing process. (Allyn Feinberg). Many people in New Prague can additionally benefit from this process because they can apply for one of these jobs at our local recycling center or nearby facilities. Luckily there will be more than enough jobs created for a small town like us. Recycling creates 9 times more jobs than the usual landfill professions. (Sponaugle) Many people are not aware of how much recycling can change their careers and lives around them. That is the one thing NRDC stresses about so greatly because investing in a larger amount of recycling can increase the number of jobs created from doing so. (Vijayaraghavan). The NRDC wants people to realize that recycling can create green jobs and that even a small town like New Prague can be apart of this constructive
procedure. Placing recycling bins around town will not only benefit the town of New Prague, but as well as the entire country and world. Recycling bins would be conserving our natural resources, reducing the amount of waste sitting in landfills, and creating many green jobs that will benefit all. Our most needed everyday materials like water and paper will not be wasted and can be recycled without harm to our earth. The amount of waste piling up on our land will decrease preventing the air from being filled with toxins. Jobs will be created that help our American families and make this town and country a greener place. So let's reduce this large amount of waste being thrown away by placing recycling bins around town giving people the option to make our world a better place.
A very important issue tied to Canada’s future sustainability is that of recycling. There is currently a shortage of suitable landfill spaces in Canada, and the current landfills produce harmful emissions (Statistics Canada, 2008). Using methods to divert as many of these wastes away from landfills will help to slow their growth and improve Canada’s future outlook. Recycling is one such method.
According to Gale opposing view points, “the cost of collecting, sorting, and proceeding recyclables can, for some materials, be higher than that of creating new raw materials” (Gale). This goes to show that even sometimes, recycling an item such as steel or paper or whatever, can cost more than actually make a new material from scratch, aka raw material. Not only that, but the places where the give mentioned provides a recyclable bin, they cost money also. A different type of trash machine comes to pick it up, more money there. The driver gets paid. The employees at raw recycling factor, which probably don’t do much, also get paid. All these unnecessary funds going to waste while the are people starving in the nation. While there are people around the world who don’t even have safe, clean water to drink; yet the government goes and spends on recycling
I am not a big earth first person but I do believe in recycling because I work at a local recycling center and I think recycling is a good thing. In fact I think everyone should recycle to make the earth a better place as a whole. A few good reasons why recycling is a good this is, the more people recycle, the less room is filled in landfills. Also, when people recycle they are reusing materials, therefore saving resources. Another good reason is that when you recycle often times you get paid back the C.R.V. that you already paid for in the grocery store.
Recycling means converting waste into usable things. However, does it really help to make a change? The things you do to clear up all your wastes, separate paper from plastic and glass and metal. Some probably would assume that recycling is helping their community and protecting the environment. But is it? Are you in fact wasting your time? There are still many people out there who does not even know what recycling is about. They don’t care throwing their waster randomly. Some people belief that keeping some things for a longer time without giving them away for recycling will be valuable in future. In some places people have no idea about recycling, they just throw away the waste or even burn them. This is just another cause of the environmental
Recycling is one of the easiest ways to save energy for all the living things on Earth. Recycling save energy because using recyclable items that are not recycled can take a lot of energy. Recycling often saves energy because the products being recycled usually require much less processing to turn them into usable materials. Sometimes recycling can also save energy for goods which is
People need to think about the objects that they throw away, those items can affect the animals around the world. For example, when people throw away the plastic rings that go around pop cans, can kill animals by being stuck around their little necks. So, before people throw those plastic rings out, they need to make sure that they cut a slit into each ring so in case an animal does get stuck in one of them, then they can get out safely. Recycling does not just have to be about plastic, but when the plastic is recycled, Americans can use it for many different things. For example, the plastic can make park benches, plastic crates, and wire tubing. Many people do not understand where all of the recycled objects go, but the objects do not go anywhere they are just recycled to make other things, recycled objects also help reduce the price of the objects that they make. The best part about recycling is the fact that people can recycle almost anything and turn it into something completely different. For example, Keen’s Harvest makes bags, wallets, and totes from recycled airbags that come from automobiles. Another example is Looptworks uses cotton jersey, nylon, vinyl, and recycled polyester to make their upcycled leather iPad cases. Skateback is another company that uses recycled material to make iPhone backs; they use the discarded post-industrial skateboard materials. Vinylux
This solution centers around reducing needless consumption, minimizing waste, maximizing recycling, and incentivizing the manufacturing of products that can be intentionally reused, repaired, or recycled back into the marketplace” (The Problems With Waste). We are following the waste management success of past cities and have the following recommendations to reduce the cost and maximize the positive impact on our environment and city (The Problems With Waste). 1) Devote resources on the state level to recycling & reuse programs, and increasing recycling incentives for companies and consumers alike (will reduce costs). 2) Ensure that recycling facilities are widely available and mandate recycling programs where possible (especially for businesses, etc.). 3) Create a market for recycled materials. Jobs are created for sorting materials and creating goods to re-enter the economy. 4) Require companies to produce products with minimum or recyclable packaging, and phase out toxic ingredients in favor of safer alternatives. 5) Mandate manufacturer take-back provisions, to reuse components in new products. Companies should be responsible for their waste. 6) Reduce the number of landfills and incinerators, restrict expansions, and strengthen the
Our world is getting to the point to where we will be surrounded by trash. There are hazards happening because of the excess trash, which could have been recycled. Although the government is not doing their best to make these hazards stop, surprisingly it is the non-governed organizations that are trying to make the difference. Proven studies and facts have been made about these issues, so people should take this into consideration and start recycling more. Recycling is a beneficial process that is not required globally like it should be because citizens are uneducated on the process and what it can do. People who are not recycling do not know the hazards they are causing everywhere.
Recycling is the processing of used waste materials into brand new, useful products. Not only does recycling provide various health benefits for humans, it also benefits for the environment. The EPA says the rates for recovering solid municipal waste increased from 1960 of around 5.6 percent to almost 25 percent more with an addition 8.5 percent in 2007 from composting. This percentage change has led to a decrease in content found in our landfills which benefits animals, humans, and even the environment as a whole. If people do not keep on recycling, our natural resources will keep on diminishing which we do not want to happen. If more people do not recycle, climate change will keep going up which leads to changes in our water temperature as well. Higher water temperature changes lead to less amounts of dissolved oxygen in ponds, lakes, oceans, and streams which will lead to aquatic wildlife to perish. By recycling, the chance of the changes happen will be very slim (Rogers,
The first reason recycling is bad is because it is not always cost effective because sometimes there may be a need to establish separate factories to process reusable products. This mean that it may create more pollution as they would go under the process of cleaning and transportation. “Recycled products are not of durable quality, because they are made of trashed waste picked up from other waste products, so recycled products are cheap and last for shorter periods.” (www.conserve-energy-future.com) Others may say by recycling you can prevent our country from being buried
Recycling is important in the effort to preserve our environment for future generations. We are running out of locations to put landfills. Recycling is a simple and effective way to reduce the amount of waste stored in landfills, yet many people do not know how easy it can be. For example, whenever I go to Shoprite® and I b...
Therefore, recycling can protect natural resources, preserve energy and lessen pollution. If people want to save planet Earth for generations to come, then recycling is necessary. On Debate.org, the question “Should there be mandatory recycling?” was asked and 84 percent said yes, while only 16 percent said no (“Should There Be Mandatory Recycling”). Recycling is very important to the planet and can make a huge difference in so many ways. Recycling is a way of life and once a person has made the choice to follow through with the steps, recycling can become second nature. Every small contribution adds up to how the society shapes the Earth’s future. How will someone make a difference?
The United States produces “about 8.25 billion tons of solid wastes each year” (Russell 1). People do not realize the impact they have on our planet and environment. When people throw anything in the trashcan, they are contributing to the destruction of our planet. The number landfills in the United States are decreasing, but the amount and volume of waste being thrown into the new landfills is increasing (Russell 4). Because of this escalating amount of garbage, Methane which contributes to global warming is an outcome of these landfills (Russell 7). As a result, our planet is suffering because of this epidemic. The garbage being put in the landfills could be recycled, but not enough businesses, ...
There are many people in the United States today that are unemployed due to our economy. Therefore, recycling could create jobs for those people. Recycling is a complex process that needs multiple workers. First, the plastics and other recyclable items have to be collected. Next, the plastics have to be separated into categories. This might seem simple but it is a three step process. The first separation is made directly by the codes on the plastic. The second separation makes smaller categories of like plastic materials. The third separation is made by determining certain properties of the plastics that are comparable. The categories are then shredded, sanitized, and then melted down. Finally, the factories then mold the plastic into direct items or palletize them for use in the future (Manrich, 9). The recycling companies could make their money by making deals with major corporations. For example, they could collaborate with Pepsi by creating their plastic soda bottles. The recycling companies would be able to sell and create these bottles for cheap since they do not have to pay for the materials to make them. Also, they use less oil than a plastic production factory would use. Thus, it is a cheaper way to create new plastic items. Therefore, there are endless possibilities that allow the recycling business to
Lots of people consider recycling to be kind of a no-brainer, something we all should do. It’s good for the environment, it re-uses materials rather than creates new ones, it reduces landfills -- the list goes on and on. But one major benefit that people often overlook is the impact recycling programs can have on a community.
