Although high school sports have been extremely popular in the past decades, they can also affect an athlete’s education in a bad way. Physical Education and School Sports is also viewed as a good way for educational attainment. Many studies have shown that physical education and sports may not harm the athletes education. .School sports can get you scholarships from the best schools out there. Even though most student athletes don’t become professional they still spend hours of practice on and off the field. Athletes also need to plan ahead since most athletes will not have a professional sport career. Many people believe that a sports is their key to success. An important strength of the present study was that data were collected on measures of both physical activity and sports team participation. This permitted the separate examination of the contribution of each variable to academic outcomes. Additionally, the Project EAT sample, because of its large size and diversity in race/ethnicity and SES, permitted generalization of the findings to other metropolitan populations of students. A limitation of this study was the lack of precision of the physical activity measure. Although physical activity recalls of children as young as fifth grade were shown to have adequate reliability and validity when used for research. A measure of baseline cardiorespiratory fitness and an objective measure of exertion during physical activity would Provide further insight into the effects of physical activity on academic achievement. Self-report Of academic grades may also have been a limitation of the study. Additionally, because of the Cross-sectional study design, causality between sports team participation or physical activity
Athletics in American schools have always been controversial for many reasons. Some of these reasons include health concerns, safety precautions, and academic significance. Daniel H. Bowen and Colin Hitt wrote an article titled, “High-School Sports Aren’t Killing Academics” to present the factors of positive correlation between success in athletics and academics. I believe that athletics in high schools not only benefit students socially, but also academically.
High school athletics have a major impact on everybody that is involved with them. It can also leave a mark on people who aren’t associated with them. There are many conflicting opinions on whether high school sports have a positive or negative influence on a student’s life. Athletics in high school can have an effect on the community as a whole. In H. G. Bisssinger’s highly regarded Friday Night Lights, high school football is accurately portrayed as the most important thing in Texas.
High schools sports have been around for many years. High schools offer many different sports such as, football, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, and soccer. Sports are a great way students get involved in school. High school teams have many different levels. The levels are varsity, junior varsity, and freshman. High school sports encourage competition and school spirt. Although joining a sport takes great effort, time commitment, and personal sacrifices, valuable lessons can be learned.
First of all high school sports are not beneficial because it puts too much stress on the kids because they want to make their parents happy and want to keep their grades up or if they don’t they could get cut from the team . The pressure from the parents is sometimes too much. According to KCRA.com this statement is important because it highlights that they have to worry about not getting dropped from the team because they have to make sure grades are staying up and then they have to worry about their practice and being a valuable player on the team. According to helpguide.org this could lead to, a lot of stress and that could be bad for the student because they might get health
Are high school sports beneficial or non-beneficial for students? I personally believe if a student is in a high school sport they’re forced to prioritize between school and their sport, and at a young age I believe the student would decide to use his time to improve in his sport instead of school. Which in the long run would affect his academics, unless they decide to stay up late and work on their homework to keep up with both school and their sport. But, even like that in time the lack of sleep would catch up to them, and cause them to do even worse in both academics, and sports. High school sports are like the lotto in my opinion, many play but only a few get rewarded for their work. Therefore, high school sports cause more negativity than positivity.
Many still seem to believe a “free” education is more than enough, when in reality, not many players are actually given a free education. While every student has the potential to earn financial aid and academic scholarship money, athletes are also capable of receiving athletic money. A majority of athletes today are either playing without an athletic scholarship or a partial scholarship, in addition to other grants and academic subsidies. To non-athletes, this may seem unfair, but look at the big picture. These athletes are spending much of their time in the gym, on the practice field, and even in the trainer’s room dealing with injuries on a daily basis. It is extremely difficult to manage school, athletics, and life itself at once let alone finding the time to earn money working at the same time. When trying to juggle a packed schedule, it is easy to forget important things or at the very least ones effectiveness is hindered thus weaken the ability to be successful. There is also a great deal of stress and anxiety that comes with the game. In fact, there is a field of psychology specifically designed for athletes and their mental privation. The mental ailments and lack of free time definitely prohibit athletes from being as successful as they can academically. Conversely, non-athletes have much more time available allowing them to study and work at a younger age. Although athletic scholarships certainly assist these athletes in attending schools with inflated tuition fees, it is by no means enough for many collegiate athletes.
Physical sports, like basketball and football, are not for the weak. They are full of impact that can result to injuries and could have been seriously hurt at any point during games and even practices. If this were to happen their shot at major leagues will be compromised, os they will be encouraged to be physically fit the most to be able to secure their future. This encourages kids to train and eat healthy at a young age to prepare for the future. Also, it means that student-athletes put their body on the line every time they play, and deserves to get paid.
Most student athletes never become professionals. They spend excessive amounts of time playing sports and neglecting their education. Participating in sports activities rather than focusing on an education has a negative effect on their career. Academics for student athletes should be their number one priority because school can get you further in life than sports. A study was taken that approximately 5.8% of High School athletes move on to play college sports, and only 3.1% of college athletes go play professional sports.
Many would disagree with me and say that high school sports actually have more benefits than negativities for a student. For example a student in sports would be more active which would make them fitter and healthier. A student that in a team sport would make more friends which would improve their social skills and increase their
Physical education is an important area in schools today. If taught correctly, it can develop physical and mental skills as well as develop a sense of self. By participating in physical activity, a student’s skill will naturally increase to the demands placed upon it. If a student never tries then their skill will never grow. Sports programs have been an integral part of all schools. They support the academics of the school and therefore foster success in life. These programs are educational and help produce productive citizenship. They help students experience and build skills that may help them in their future, like interpersonal and time management skills. Education may kindle the light of knowledge, but sports help to maintain the proper physique. Sports are also an important means of entertainment and a use for energy after long hours of study. Sports increase a student’s performance not only in the classroom but also in their life.
The main goals behind Sport Education are to help students become knowledgeable about different sports and activities to the point where they can participate in these outside of the classroom to stay active. Also it teaches execution and strategies and encourages competitiveness. It is important for kids to be competitive because they will have to be in life and it will teach the importance of winning and losing the right way. “Sports offer kids a great chance to work cooperatively toward a common goal. And working coope...
For their future Professional athletes need to have a backup plan. They need to pursue education, or a trade. Professional athletes can train as a mechanic or an electrician in case they become injured or homeless. Before becoming a Professional athlete, they should have a High school degree then go on to college.
