The Earth is the ecosystem in which we live, and therefore it is to be protected at all costs. However, many people do not take the matter of nurturing our planet seriously. Most people are extremely ignorant of the amount of water they consume, the garbage they throw away, and the opportunities to recycle that they let slip by. People from the south seem to think that recycling is more a part of the “northern” culture than it is theirs. Sadly, people have yet to realize that the Earth is their home, and they would never treat their physical homes with the same amount of neglect they do their Earthly home. It is for this reason that our planet is slowly deteriorating. Three families were asked to participate in this research experiment on …show more content…
The two older ladies of the family rated their level of care over the environment a 7 out of 10 on the scale. The three younger ladies in this family’s answers ranged from 4 to 6 on the scale. Like family #1, this family also has designated bags for plastics, cardboard, and soda cans. Since they have five people in their family, they estimated that they probably use more water than others, but they take protective measures to conserve as much water. For example, they limit their bath time to 10 minutes and wash their and brush their teeth for two minutes. Unlike all the other families, they also save their trash and compact it into their own compost to use in their …show more content…
These farms have spread all over the globe, including large areas required for the animals to graze. The trees that are torn down in these areas are “vital to maintaining Earth’s atmosphere,” yet these rainforests are being torn down every day (Macionis 534). Humans do not realize that they are the problem and the answer for our world’s safe environment. The carbon dioxide we release through machines should be equalized by the trees we tear down, however, the environment continues to suffer by our wasteful hands and the temperature of the Earth steadily rises every year (Macionis
As destruction of the rainforest continues, man slowly paves the inevitable path to a clear end. It has been known that the rainforest is an essential provider for the balance of the mother earth and that it acts as a key for life as we know it. Yet, the world still decides to quietly watch the disappearance. In fact, most people realize what exactly is taking place. But however, instead of trying to aid in the termination of this disaster. They place this into the back of their ignorant little minds thinking that it will not directly effect them. Every day the removal continues, it actually occurs extremely fast and at a pace of 80 acres per minute. That means at 80 acres per minute with 60 minutes per hour and 24 hours a day, there is a loss of approximately 115,000 acres a day. This is an exorbitant amount forest loss in one day meaning that at this pace hastened by the roadrunner ethics, that the forest will not have a place in the environment for very long. The fact is that now is the time to voice your opinion before and act it is too late.
People infrequently think about the amount of land it took to produce the foods they eat, however livestock and the land used to grow food for livestock accounts for approximately one-third of the Earth’s ice-free land (Cowspiracy). Animal agriculture, mainly cattle ranching, is also responsible for 90% of Amazon rainforest destruction (Hyner). According to Cornell University, “Each year an estimated 41 million tons of plant protein is fed to U.S. livestock to produce an estimated 7 million tons of animal protein for human consumption.” Therefore it takes about 5 times the amount of crops to produce animal products compared to the equivalent amount of plants. Eating more plant-based foods uses much less land than animal-based foods, thus causing less destruction to
Rainforests once covered 14% of the worlds land surface, however now it only covers a mere 6%. It is estimated that all rainforests could be consumed in less than 40 years. Trees are becoming more needed and used everyday. We need them cut down for many reasons such as paper and timber, while also needing them ‘untouched’ for other reasons like oxygen, we have to ask ourselves, which is more important? At the current rate, most of the rainforests are being cut down for resources like paper and timber, but less importance is being placed on main resources like oxygen.
“Scientists say one day’s deforestation is equivalent to the carbon footprint of eight million people flying to New York” (Howden 1). Human activities around the world are causing more damage to the environment than people can imagine. Deforestation is among one of the environmental issues that are relevant in our society as a result of ignorance. Deforestation, along with air pollution is also seen in various trails, such as the Appalachian Trail. A nonfiction book, A Walk In the Woods by Bill Bryson, reveals the true nature of humans. People always want more, and their greed is having negative impacts on the environment. An article, “Deforestation and Its Extreme Effects on Global Warming” by Scientific American highlights the issue of how cutting down trees is
But in the bigger picture, with a disfigured food chain, humans will be effected due to their high standing within the food chain, thus making the results of climate change a significant issue. An environment that concerns the problems of extinction, a decaying atmosphere, and the destruction of the Earth’s homeostasis, is the rainforest. While for a section of time, efforts of activist groups and governments greatly and positively impacted the rainforests, the undertaking of saving the rainforest slowed down to a complete stop, and destruction continues instead. The rainforests
People have to start off understanding what environmental sustainability means. Allie Sibole author of, The Ethics of Sustainability: Why Should We Care?, shares a perfect example, “Sustainability is a moral response to an incredible gift” (Sibole 1). What she explains is, our planet is the beloved gift. People need to not take
We are supposed to be good stewards of this earth while we are still living on it. God gave us this planet to inhabit and have dominion over everything on and in it. That means that we are responsible for keeping it clean, for protecting it from harm or depletion and we have to preserve and replenish the earth.
...and consume. The earth isn’t getting any bigger or more abundant- so it’s up to us to take care of it.
The environment today is not in a good condition, Climate change is evident, and oceans are getting polluted. Rainforrest's are decreasing in size due to deforestation and illegal logging. Animals are getting extinct due to the destruction of their habitats. Natural resources are being consumed at very large amounts, and get wasted. There are different ways these problems can be addressed, one option is environmental management. Environmental management focuses on conservation of natural resources, protection of habitats, and impact of humans on the environment. Conservation of natural resources is the smart use of the world's resources by humans, through this waste production is limited, and there will be less garbage in the world. By conserving
Many people assume that the environment is not in danger. They believe that as technology advances, we do not need to worry about renewing natural resources, recycling, and finding new ways to produce energy. They state that one person in the world does not make a large difference. In reality, each individual's contribution greatly affects our environment. Our natural resources are slowly disappearing, and we must work together to save them and the Earth from ruin.
One of the most evident problems associated to the environment is the issue of the logging of trees, mainly in undisturbed places such as the Amazon basin. Trees are considered the lungs of the Earth. They recycle all the polluting carbon in the air and return oxygen back into our atmosphere, creating a stable cycle of carbon in our atmosphere. However, the impeccable rates which trees are being cut down in our forests have grown to ever increasing and alarming rates. Trees that are made way for farming are burnt up releasing deadly amounts of carbon and thus leading to the problem of global warming. As its names suggest the world is slowly warming up and without any notice the environment which God has gave us will be slowly eradicated. The daily lives which humans carry on about every day are also a factor influencing on our environment and global warming. By driving cars that have a thirst for petrol we are releasing carbon dioxide and furthermore impacting on the world?s climate. In Australia environmental impact has always been evident. Land clearing especially in places such as Queensland has caused land to lay dry and lifeless where all forms of life is destroyed. By clearing land we are not only affecting our climate but are also destroying animal habitat and the usage of the land. Senseless actions by commuters in Australia, emitting tons and tons of lethal gases vulnerable to the atmosphere are starting to take its toll on our climate. We are seeing a harsher climate and at the same time less rain. If we want to preserve our world we must take a stance on this issue and take action for what is right, not carrying on the actions that will lead to a desolate, destroyed Earth.
We all belong to the same world and all of us have the same responsibilities towards the world and its environment. This fact might be hard to digest, but if we continue to pollute the Earth at the current rate, all of the world’s ocean waters will become one-hundred-thirty percent acidic. This means that the ocean will be unable to sustain most of its marine life and only a few creatures will be able to survive in the water. A big population of people think that they do not or have few responsibilities towards the environment. People think that the governor of a country should take steps to help the environment. They leave it to scientists since they have the technology to prevent pollution, or that is what most people think. There are more responsibilities to the world each individual has than most of realize. The amount of negligence and ignorance of humans towards the Earth is taking a heavy toll.
For each individual, there are many ways to save the earth which they must know and do. First and foremost, people must
Our planet is suffering from severe pollution, which ranges from contaminated air, water and soil as well. Humans are doing nothing to reduce the amount of pollution that is harming our earth. To understand how pollution works first you must understand that there are different types of pollution. The most common types of pollution and the ones that I will be focusing on which are the ones doing the most harm to our planet are air pollution, water pollution, soil contamination and littering. In order to help out and reduce pollution in our planet people need to be more aware of what these problems are and about the severe damages that they are causing our planet. Before industrialization really jumped into place and had an effect on large cities, nature had its own way of cleaning up its own air and itself. Wind scattered gases, rain washed many substances and the rest dissolved into the ground; while plants absorbed carbon dioxide and made it into oxygen. With big cities growing more every time and with more towns that were becoming more industrialized a lot of more waste began to be released into the environment and the atmosphere and soon this was more than enough for nature to handle. In order to stop and reduce pollution people need to understand the damage that it is causing our environment and our planet as well. People need to be more aware of how they can help out and do their part in reducing these problems that are causing our planet to die slowly with people not even noticing it.
...as human we need to take care of it by following all the correct measurement. Maybe, the smallest action can bring huge difference to the world and help to save the ecosystem. Any extinction species can be preserved and make a plantation to help the world green. Cut off any unnecessary activities that bring damage to the surrounding. Besides, generate of energy also can be changed with alternative ways like renewable energy that must be more clean and safe. The fossil fuel source also will not remain exists and will run out someday. Take a good action and care for our world as we live on it. This because the world content all the sources we need to survive like food, water, shelter and etc. The most important thing is to start activities and usage that are environmentally friendly, for example, organic foods and materials, natural gases, less electrical use and etc.
