My relationship with my younger sister, Riya, has been filled with conflict and has presented challenges ever since we (Parents and I) made the decision, that she live with me while she finished her undergraduate. Our relationship before her moving to U.S. was that of most siblings that age, a caring loving relationship that often led to arguments about trivial things. But over the past year, I have recognized that my motivation towards her and our relationship has changed because now I feel directly responsible for her well-being and the relationship often feels paternalistic. Most challenging part of our “new” relationship, especially from my perspective, has been lack of clear and honest communication. Lack of clear communication contributes and often amplifies the issue that is preventing her to achieve her goal. Which consequently frustrates me because of my inability to effectively help her with her issues. Lack of communication is often the source of our conflict, but I feel most frustrated when my advice is ignored or when it’s not appreciated. For instance, her goal last year was to be admitted into …show more content…
The analysis in a way depicts my behavior (B-[G-R]) with Riya that I was quick to offer my help when confronted with an issue. But when she decided to not accept my help, I quickly gave up on the situation. Rather than reengage have her reconsider the officer, I removed myself from the situation because I felt my advice was either not considered or dismissed too quickly. One of my primary strengths as Blue-Red MVS (Assertive – Nurturing) that I was not able to use during the conflict was my ability to persuade her to meet someone who could have guided her in the right direction. I think, the outcome would have been drastically different if I had convinced her to take up on my
It seems that every sibling doesn’t always have a great relationship with their older or younger siblings. In the movie “Real Women Have Curves”, we have two sisters, Anna and Estella, who seem not to get along in the beginning because of their differences, but at the end they become the best of friends because they have similar dreams and learn to support each other. The advantage of Anna and Estella’s relationship is that they benefit from each other. The whole story is that you don’t always realize how much you have in common with your siblings until you realize that you have similar dreams and can be there for each other.
This struggle is something that concerns her throughout the article. Estroff states that “The moment of truth for adult sibling relationship is the aging of parents and decisions about end-of-life parental care.” Both authors feel that the hardest times siblings will have to deal with life issues, is when their parents come to the place they cannot care for themselves. During that time is the moment of truth for siblings, if they can handle the pressure together and work together through the hard choices, or if this could cause them to fall apart. These situations force siblings to either deal with their differences for the sake of the parent, or their differences are so monumental that the burden of the parent falls on one of them or the parent is left to fend for herself, which could end the parent up in a nursing
Several techniques may have been employed by both parties in the conflict, but one stands out and that is perspective taking. Had the Senior just put himself in her situation and understood how much pressure she was under to stay physically fit, he may have engaged her more constructively.
The tensions between them are clear, but being a sister they remind me of myself crying out for daddies attention when the other gets more, or I feel less like the favorite. Everyone wants to be the favorite. However, in greek mythology as women they will always come after and below men. I think this is the most important thing they have in common and should stick together for that
She stands a staggering 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighs a massive 95 pounds, and has short, brown hair and brown eyes. I see my older sister Leslie. Others see a model of perfection. Don't get me wrong, my sister and I are close and have been inseparable since birth. My mother has kept pictures of us ranging from the time we shared a playpen as babies to just recently at Leslie's graduation. For seventeen years, we've shared every life experience imaginable, and we've dealt with the trials and tribulations that come with growing up. But in September, she left home to attend the University of California at Irvine, leaving me to face life alone. However, it gave me the opportunity to live life by myself as Ryan, instead of Leslie's little brother.
Decisions made in present can have huge impacts on the future; especially decisions that pertain to one’s whole life. One such decision is the decision of getting into a relationship or getting married. There are many questions that arise in one’s mind while making this decision. How wealthy is that person? How is the personality of that person? How good-looking is that person? How is the job position of that person? How is the family of that person? In today’s modern society, these questions get so important that people ignore the fact of whether love is present in their relationship. Such an attitude can make life really miserable; it can never lead to a successful relationship.

Actress and model, Tia Mowry, once said, "There is nobody in the world that knows me better than my sister." I relate to this statement because it describes how my sister and I were a couple years ago. My sister, Peyton, and I had an incredible relationship growing up. We used to do everything together. Even though she is four years older than me, she would still play Bratz dolls with me and play dress up whenever I asked. As we got older, our relationship grew stronger. I told her everything, and she would do the same. I went to her for advice almost everyday. She would always help no matter how busy she was. However, that all changed once she moved to Joplin to live on her own. Once that happened, our relationship changed for the worst.
We always hear that close relationships are crucial to having a happy and healthy life. I believe this statement is true but I find that the challenge for myself is being able to do the work needed in keeping the relationship going smoothly and also finding the time to connect with these special someones. At this point in time my life things are relatively peaceful and my relationships seem to be going on an even keel, therefore I’m a happy person. I recognize the extreme importance in having wholesome, loving people around me which is why relational maintenance is very important. Relational maintenance is using a variety of behaviors and techniques to sustain and strengthen different types of relationships. Out of the various relationships that I currently have, there are two people that take more maintenance than the others and I would like to discuss these in my paper. The first relationship is with my boyfriend and the second is with my brother. Staying committed to the ideas I write about below, helps me focus on
Love is the most profound emotion acknowledged to human beings. For most people, romantic relationships are the most meaningful factors in their lives. The capability to have a healthy, loving relationship is not natural. For those who have experienced a failed relationship, and most of them have to effort consciously to master the proficiency necessary to make them grow. Adolescents, particularly girls, spend a lot of time thinking and talking about romantic relationships, whether the focus is on past relationships, or potential future relationships, even when they are single. Adolescents who are not in a romantic relationship regularly say that not having a partner is very stressful, particularly in early adolescence. In addition, romantic relationships influence significantly on their ongoing emotional and social development. Moreover, romantic relationships at a young age can help them build a solid foundation for romantic relationships in adulthood. It is true that adolescent romantic relationships tend to be shorter in duration than adult relationships, and naturally involve less intimacy, attachment and commitment but they play a very important role in adolescents’ lives. The specific age at which people build up their first romantic relationship differ widely by culture, gender and person, but for most, it will happen at some point during adolescence. Romance is not just about a box of chocolates on Valentine’s Day (Laura, 2014). A satisfying relationship can make people feel happy and healthy. However, keep in mind that successful relationships are not just about rainbows and butterflies. Romantic relationships cannot be generalized as being either ‘good’ or ‘bad’ for adolescent...
My parents couldn't be famous so they lived their dreams out through their kids. My father was known for creating publicly stunts at Parla pictures. He spent his days telling the world how awful or amazing a celebrity was. Sort of like the health inspector at a movie theater.
Throughout most of my life I have gained friendships and relationships with others that have turned into long term, but others which only lasted a short while. The friendship that has greatly impacted my life significantly over the last eight years is someone who means so much to me. This meaningful friendship all started back when I was in middle school, which has grown stronger over the years. I met Brooke in middle school because we had some of the same classes and were in homeroom together. Our friendship developed quickly and lasted throughout our high school years. We became really close our Junior and Senior year of high school. But, maintaining our friendship hasn’t always been so easy. Today, we text and call each other on our free time, but I know I can count and rely on her when I need someone to talk too. I call her my second sister and vice versa. And when we go home on breaks we see one another as much as we can. The best part of our relationship is that if one is in need of advice or in need of a shoulder to cry on, we are always there for one another. Keeping in contact is very important in our relationship and communication has played a key role in our relationship.
Relationships are intricately complex. Made up of several interactions that are full of verbal and non-verbal communication, a relationship between any two people is completely and utterly unique. There are so many dynamics that are at play in relationships and several opportunities for both good and bad communication. In my life, I have experienced all kinds of people and relationships: friends, acquaintances, brothers, parents, teammates, lab-partners, peers, teachers, mentors. The list goes on and on. Three examples of my personal relationships are my relationship with my brother Caleb, my friend Kennedy, and my high school teacher Mrs. Antwine. In all three relationships, we communicate verbally and non-verbally. However, because of different circumstances, atmospheres, and backgrounds, each relationship differs from the others.
“Relationships are what make up our world today, they shape the ways we see things and the way that we do things, relationships affect how we see the world today”. I believe supporting what your partner does, having a great sum of trust and showing your affections towards your partner is what will make a healthy relationship great.
Part of being human is the prospect of intimate relationships with those that we come in contact with. Each one of us has a mixture of feelings towards those that we 're intimate with and learning to tolerate ambivalence is an essential part of the process of growing up. One person that I have strong conflicting feelings towards is my girlfriend of three years, Kourtney Milling. These ambivalent feelings are not from a lack of love, but from the everyday struggles that come with this intimate of a relationship with another human being. Never before have I found someone, besides family members, that I have found to be so unbelievably amazing and frustrating at the same time. In my eyes, Kourtney is one of a kind. She is everything that I aspire
