Right now, as I write this essay, I am listening to “Head Over Heels” by Tears For Fears from the album Songs From The Big Chair. This is an example of my culture. The music I listen to, that has been passed down from my parents, is part of my everyday life and defines me as a human being. It’s not just the music itself, but the style of music. It differentiates me from other cultures, such as Spanish, as they listen to a perceivably different type of music. The fact that I value this record so much reveals the values of my culture. Culture is defined as the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively. In other words, culture is the art a community surrounds itself with, the clothes they wear, the traditions they hold, the words they speak, etc. It is their way of life. Culture is what makes every person unique; sometimes culture can be the reason one lives. By having commonalities and shared traditions, humans can bond with one another and create a feeling of community and comfort. Having similarities with others makes friendship and love form. However, culture is also a way that humans be different from one another. In the 21st century, individuality has become cherished. Every person can look …show more content…
Each country had its own culture. But now I see that there is difference in cultures everywhere. Every city, every cul de sac has a different behavior and set of values. Also, these cultures seemed very closed off to one another. I now see the possibilities for each culture to appreciate each other and find beauty in their similarities and differences. Cliques can be nice and socially comforting, but the best things happen when they come together…for some people, that is. One needs to have a very open mind, and right now, in American society, that is very
Culture often means an appreciation of the finer things in life; however, culture brings members of a society together. We have a sense of belonging because we share similar beliefs, values, and attitudes about what’s right and wrong. As a result, culture changes as people adapt to their surroundings. According to Bishop Donald, “let it begin with me and my children and grandchildren” (211). Among other things, culture influences what you eat; how you were raised and will raise your own children? If, when, and whom you will marry; how you make and spend money. Truth is culture is adaptive and always changing over time because
How does one define what culture is? Culture is defined as the system of shared beliefs, values, customs, behaviors, and artifacts that the members of society use to cope with, their world and with one another - transmitted from generation through learning. This is particularly meaning a pattern of behavior shared by a society or group of people; with many things making up a society’s ‘way of life’ such as language, foods etc. Culture is something that molds people into who they are today. It influences how people handle a variety of situations, process information and how they interact with others. However, there are events when one’s own culture does not play a significant role in the decisions that they make or how they see the world. Despite

In conclusion, culture can shape one’s identity but also confuse people. The perfect balance of mixed culture can be found with just some guidance of an adult, song, or even a girlfriend. Culture is a very important and individual aspect of everyone’s
As defined in Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, culture is “the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group.” These customary beliefs could also be described as a set of morals or values commonly practiced by a group. Social forms are understood as being the institutions in which interaction and socialization between people take place, such as at school, church, or work. The material traits within a culture would include clothing, food, and art to name a few. Music is a distinct, diverse culture in itself, a subculture. Each musical era had its own code of values, social forms, and material traits.
As culture is interpreted differently by individuals, this has led to conflicts in the American society.
According to Webster’s Dictionary, culture is defined as tradition or a way of life. It is also a defining principle in how we live our life and the type of people we become. The Salish Indians of the Montana and Celie, the main character of the book The Color Purple, are two examples of cultures that made them who they are. Celie is a poor, black, woman growing up in Memphis, Tennessee in the mid-twentieth century. The men have constantly put her down, through beatings and rape, for being a woman with no talent at all. Her husband’s lover comes to town and gives Celie a chance to see a culture where a woman can stand up for herself and teaches her that love is possible. The Salish on the other hand have a culture that has gone on through the ages and still is a part of each person today despite the obstacles they have had to face. Culture does shape us because from birth it is what tells us our ideals, laws, and morals that we live by each day.
Culture is something that we all have. It illustrates who we are as people. There are many types of cultures in this world. The one culture that illustrates who I am is Mexican. I was raised in which some would call a typical Mexican family. In my family are my mom, stepdad, and siblings but my real dad is German and African American, which I still see whenever I want which is a lot. It's common that my parents have extended family over like cousins, grandparents etc. and nobody in my family is quiet and I mean nobody. Everytime I walk in my house it's loud, festive as if we were having a party or a fiesta.
Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts.
Culture has a big impact on how we all fit in as individuals in today’s society, and since this assignment is about that I decided to include some of my own experiences to illustrate my point of view and compare it with those of my classmates and some of the readings.

...Through this class I have learned that there are many differences between cultures, but there are also many similarities. People identify with the people that are most like themselves and have the same values and outlooks. Our culture is how we know where we fit in, but our culture is not set in stone. We can change certain aspects of our culture just as Ms. Halualani’s parents did for her.
Culture plays a significant role in shaping people’s behaviors. Humans start to expose to culture the day they are born and they learn cultural values through their everyday life interacting with the people and environments around them. The cultural values often help us in guiding our behaviors and provide us a context in helping us identify the proper way of responding to various situations. Culture can help to determine human behaviors because culture can influence individuals’ psychological processes, development of self, and motivation. However, individual differences should also be examined in determining people’s behaviors.
Culture plays a major impact in our life and I believe it has the potential to influence many of our day-to-day decisions. I define culture in many ways. I believe our culture is something we come to know and are born into. Culture I believe is not only primordial in nature but can also have constructive characteristics. I have been blessed to be apart of many different cultures.
In the end, what we learn from this article is very realistic and logical. Furthermore, it is supported with real-life examples. Culture is ordinary, each individual has it, and it is both individual and common. It’s a result of both traditional values and an individual effort. Therefore, trying to fit it into certain sharp-edged models would be wrong.
