Coming to college as an adult, we have many expectations and preconceptions of what college will or will not be. The expectations we have can influence our college life for the better or the worse. My experience since starting college has been an interesting one. People have misconceptions about college because they do not know what to expect. After doing some research, I have concluded that there are three major factors that are often misunderstood about college life. The first is the financial aspect of college. Second, is the relationship between the professors and students. Third is time management. These three factors play an important role in why people are afraid to go down the path to college.
Throughout this course, we had multiple assignments that were aimed at improving us as writers. I am sure that everyone took something different from this course, and I am sure that each student took more from some areas than others; however for me there were three major things that I saw that I benefited from most. Our weekly craft lessons, grammar plan, but most of all, observational learning. Our weekly craft lessons have introduced us to multiple writing strategies. These strategies have helped turn my papers from elementary papers that were written below my expected grade level to papers more on par with my peers.
In life, people come across challenging obstacles’ when trying to achieve their goals. College, like that of life, has a variety of challenges that appear in a student’s pathway to their goals. For most college students that are just starting out in the basic classes, such as Mrs. Fox-Angerer’s English 101, problems can arise due to classes being much harder than the prior high school classes the students are used to. Mrs. Fox-Angerer’s class is hard because it has an online portion, it creates stress, and it is a required class.
I've learned that I am a stronger writer than I thought I was since I found that it was quite easy for me to prove my thesis statement clearly. Having to do pre-writing helped me discover certain flaws in my work and has made my writing much better than it was before I started the class. Being able to improve my ability to elaborate and discuss evidence/quotes even more would have been most helpful to me after completing this course.
...dless of what I am trying to accomplish. I feel that I am much better now, in persuading someone through my writings; which would definitely come in handy in the future. The responsibility I have gained during this experience is incredible and has taught me to be a much more organized person. During this semester I was taught a process of how to write a paper and organize it. I found that all of these responsibilities have made me realize that I could definitely take the next step forward in my academic career. Each new experience I involve myself in has made me continue to grow and constantly learn something new. I am someone who has never really enjoyed English classes in the past and I when I registered for English 101 I only saw it as a requirement to graduate but I really did enjoy this English course and I know that it was something that was worthwhile for me.
Personally, I believe that I have gained valuable knowledge in my English classes. Recently, I am about to end my third English course of college and it has been a good experience, those courses helped and influenced a lot in my writing. I believe I did more than just improve my writing skills. I received some rhetorical and genre knowledge, and learned about the writing process and how to appropriately enter a conversation without losing my own style of writing.
In conclusion, this class has helped me be able to express my ideas in a clear, concise manner. I am now feel confident conveying my thoughts in ways that people will be able to clearly understand. This class has helped me gain a better understanding of how people communicate and how I can most effectively communicate with others. Furthermore, it has helped me overcome my
...larify the structure and destination in which I was headed. By revising my essays I was able to make the content and message seem more important and made the final drafts seem a slight degree better than the originals, but the finals were better nonetheless. The instructor did a very good job in guiding me and helping find my way into writing by focusing on some of the problems I was facing and clarified them so that I would better understand them. The instructor helped me expand on my grammatical by helping me discover what it was that I lacked while constructing basic sentence structure; the usage of commas and semi-colons, quotations, and how to sight titles of books and articles within an essay. This English 101 course I have attended has helped me develop better writing skills as well as helped me create more profound essays and a very satisfying research paper.
It took me a while to land where I am at now, and I could not have done it without the help of James. He encouraged me, and he believes in me. Therefore, college is a big step for me, so I know I have to see it through. Fighting the feeling of hopelessness, stress, and not having enough money is what drifted me away from college. There was no other motivation left in me, but suddenly that all changed.
When it came to the purpose of my essay, I was never very good at expressing what it was. This course has really taught me how to express purpose. It also taught me how to find purpose in others writing. “What I am going to be talking about in this essay is the purpose of Jean Anyon’s essay, Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work.” (Whittemore, 2) That is the purpose o...
In this essay I will give a detailed look at what a college degree means to me, on a personal level and also on a professional level. We will examine my CSI results to determine the things I need to work on to be successful in college, but also take a look at the strengths I possess. I will assess my goals and the steps I need to obtain in order to achieve these goals.
College is a great experience where no all high school students get the chance to live the feeling of a college student before their graduation. High school might be great for these teenagers, but college is even greater. College can offer them a lot more experience than they get while in high school. Becoming a college student and having a professional education is more than important for new generations. The importance of having an associate degree, a doctoral degree, and a master degree symbolize a successful person. Becoming an educated person with any degrees will make that person’s life as simple as attending to school and getting the best out from it. Now, high school students should attend to college before or after they graduate to
When I first enrolled here at State University, I never thought I would ever be in the position to graduate. Finishing college was a huge goal growing up but it was also my biggest fear. But after three and a half years of dedication I plan to get my degree in the fall. Getting this far in college was not easy, it took encouragement from family, dedication, and assistance from others to reach this position.
