Moving up to middle school can seem scary it was at first to me. When you get here it might seem a lot different than elementary school. It is different but it’s just the lockers and going from one class to the other not that much of a change. It will get harder but that’s just because you’re moving up they want to get you ready for next year when it will get even harder it won’t be that hard if you do what you’re supposed to do in sixth grade instead of messing around. They are trying to help you get ready for harder times and what’s going to come so stop complaining they don’t complain they wake up earlier than you and come to school every day and think they have to grade all those papers. Making the transition from middle school to high school is a huge stepping stone in a teenager’s life. High school represents both the ending of a childhood and the beginning of adulthood. It’s a rite of passage and often many teens have the wrong impression when beginning this passage. Most began high school with learning the last thing on their mind. They come in looking for a story like adventure and have a false sense of reality created through fabricated movie plots acted out by fictional characters. In all actuality high school is nothing like you see in movies, television shows, or what you read about in magazines.
As many people have told me before, it is a very different ballgame than middle school’s easy going years. There is much more work, the classes are harder, and the environment is completely different. Many people’s grades may slip and they may cower in fear at the barrage of assignments they receive class after class. Unlike other people, I am confident in my ability to excel at all classes and to sustain exemplary grades. Therefore, while many are trembling in fear at the prodigious assignments and work is bombarding them from all angles, I will be at ease, knowing that whatever obstacle is thrown my way, I will conquer it and be its own

It's quite difficult transitioning from being the biggest to back to being the smallest. In eighth grade, you've finally become comfortable with your peers, the school, and even the teachers, and it's gone in a matter of a couple months. My perception of high school was extremely terrifying because it was an academy where I didn't really know anyone because it was slightly far. It seems so easy when you already know someone at the school because they can help guide you around, but to a zoning that's a twenty minute distance it's difficult. I expected the least, honestly. I knew that the halls would be packed, getting to classes would be confusing, and teachers would continuously give homework, but no one said it would be so much more. Moving

Looking back through my middle school and high school years, I see that I have matured a great amount. I see my current self as someone that treats others with respect, and who does not blurt out anything that comes to mind. I sadly cannot say that was always the case. Throughout high school, everyone changes at least a minimal amount, and sometimes you don’t even notice the changes. Maturity is something that happens naturally for most, and can happen in the matter of a summer break.
Young students today that are going through the middle school system are between the ages of 10 to 15 years old. They are going through a crucial stage of life in which many alterations occur such as emotional, physical, and mental changes. All of these changes that they must go through are essential to develop into healthy, fully functional, and self-actualized people. As a future educator, I need to see that middle school students are unique; they are too old to be considered children and too young to be considered adolescents. Middle level professionals have certain roles and responsibilities as it relates to the development of young adolescents. We must present ourselves as role models for the students and have the responsibility to make sure that as they progress through middle school they have enriched, meaningful learning experiences through challenging, exploratory, integrative, and relevant curriculum. As a future educator, I need to understand and recognize these changes, strengths, weaknesses, and diversities and be able to plan accordingly and appropriately for them in the classroom. I have developed my own philosophy for teaching at the middle level, based on this evidence and my understanding about the unique characteristics of middle level adolescents that will help mold me into a great middle school educator!
Wow, three years have passed and the last day is just as long as the first. Three years of hard discipline and learning to get used to homework every night. Three years of standing on the front steps waiting for my parents and saying goodbye to my teachers. I never thought the goodbye might be permanent. 6th grade came and I was looking up at those giant 8th graders, and now I guess I’m one of them. 6th grade, and I was saying hello, and now 8th grade has come and it’s gone from introductions to goodbyes as my last days as a middle school student wind down.
Good morning teachers, faculty, administrators, family, friends, and of course students. It is a great privilege to be standing here today and representing our class on our eighth grade Class Day. Can you believe it? Four years ago, most of us walked into this school as nervous as we were the first day of school. We were the tiny fifth graders, the youngest students in this middle school, not knowing where anything was and how to navigate the school. Now, those same four years later, we’re leaving this school behind to a whole new school being just as nervous as we were when we first arrived. It has been a long four years as well as a short four years. Long because of all the tests, quizzes, finals, and projects, but short because of the lifelong friendships, the lasting memories, and the truly interesting and amazing things we learned in-between. The Abington Heights Middle School is definitely a welcoming, fun, memorable, and great school that I will never forget. These four years spent with these wonderful classmates has been an extraordinary journey with many cherishable memories.
Throughout my life I have always coasted through everything that I have ever done. When it came to school you could describe me as an average student when compared to my friends, I always did the bare minimum that I needed to pass, when it came to outside of school it was the same thing when ever my mom or dad told me to do something I always to put in the least amount of effort to accomplish it and waited to the last minute to start doing it. When I read Carol Dweck’s Mindset I learned about fixed mindset and growth mindset, Dweck explained fixed mindset is when a person sets himself up for failure mentally, they always think they wont amount to anything so they just stop trying; while growth mindset is the exact opposite of a fixed mindset,
Are you nervous about middle school? Are you feeling intimidated by what you think you’re going to face? Don’t worry, because I had the same kind of mindset when I was about to enter junior high. I was worried about the assignments becoming more difficult and about the teachers probably becoming stricter. But as I went through junior high, I realized that I actually had nothing to fear. Through my middle school years, I’ve picked up on some ways and techniques that make surviving middle school a little easier and a lot more fun. In order to survive middle school, you must have good study skills, be able to deal with or avoid class drama, and you must follow some of my personal advice.

When I was five years old, the word recess was one of my favorite words. Recess automatically meant the best part of day to me, it was time to go outside and play. Recess meant we were going to be let free and have take some time to cooldown our minds from learning. I remember in the later grades of elementary school if we didn't have recess our days we ruined. In 5th grade our teacher always told us that we wouldn’t get recess in middle school, but we would never listen. Recess was my favorite word when I five years old!
Young adolescents can be described as ages 10-15 years old, but it is also considered that adolescence continues until the age of 25. During this time in an adolescent’s life there are many internal and external factors that affect the development of each individual. The influence that an adolescent’s peers, parents, and community have on them can be conflicting and therefore cause stress. Trying to meet the expectations of others during a time where one is going through so many forms of physical, psychological, and cognitive development can be trying for a middle school aged student. They are expected to focus on their education and the expectation of other outside influences while their bodies are growing and developing into an adult body. When development happens differently for these kids it can affect their psychological development if they focus too much on how fast, or slow they are developing in comparison to their peers. Some adolescents may let their peers influence their behaviors creating a problem with how they interact with others, or how they view themselves as a person. The middle school is a place where students are guided through these developmental experiences with the help of their peers, teachers, administrators, parents and community.
