Long distance friendships are ideal in today’s world, especially with the help of advanced technology. People are able to fly across the world in less than a couple of weeks, even contact each other in a couple of seconds. Being in a long distance friendship creates a strong bond between two individuals because of the will to maintain the friendship through social media, the commitment and dedication, and the duration of the relationship. Typically people associate long distance friendships with not being able to withstand but social media interactions decrease that chance.

As stated by Johnson, “Personal dedication is ‘‘the desire of an individual to maintain or improve the quality of his or her relationship for the joint benefit of the participants’’ (p. 595). If one person constantly puts in the effort towards a relationship with none from the other individual, then they both do not benefit from the friendship. To have a strong relationship with someone, both individuals have to know the other person is dedicated to the growth and advancement. The dedications of both parties provides an opportunity to make a long distance friendship unbeatable. Johnson said, “LD friendships provide an opportunity, then, to explore commitment in relationships in which few structural restrictions exist.” The minimal amount of restrictions does not provide any guidelines or rules towards the maintenance of the

Rusbult stated, “The longer duration of LD friendships may mean individuals have more invested in LD friendships, providing incentive for them to continue” (Rusbult, 1980).
A friendship is based on the amount invested in a person and the memories that are surfaced when they are together. Long distance friendships are meant for individuals with years of history together because without the past experiences to connect them, then they would not have any incentive of building on the friendship. Past experiences that develop a friendship are being there for heartbreaks, whenever there are family troubles, helping with their anxiety and etc. To be there for someone in those times of need is to say that no matter what horrid situation occurs, the friend will always stand by them no matter what. Rawlins said, “However, indirect investments, such as shared memories, may be more powerful, as the friends involved are possibly important in one’s life history” (Rawlins, 1994). Bonding with someone, whether it's friendship or a serious relationship takes time no matter what and they have the same characteristics to build up that relationship; whether it's trust or respect most relationships need them to work together, no matter what time period it is. We build up such a fantasy when were younger of our future lives and what they are. Imagining that you'll have no tensions between another person or you'll be living at peace with yourself, but as we grow were thrown a curveball that disrupts all your facade of happy life we made . It's a disrupting force yet people can overcome the hardest obstacles in order to pursue what or who they want to be acquaintances with. Putting in the effort pays off in the end and people can get where they want sooner if they just try a bit harder earlier on. People learn to trust, love and respect differently, but it's all existent in people's lives in some way, and it’ll be varied throughout everyone else’s

Let's say if one part of the family lives on the East Coast, and the other part lives on the West Coast, it would be really difficult to get together, because of huge distances that separates them. Instead of going all the way across the country, they could just go across the street, if family would live in the same community, and that will save a lot of time. Also people are really busy to upheat relationships. For example, brother and sister after leaving parents house separated far away. They still going to call each other, but by the time passed they will begin communicate rarely. As can be seen, people that live far away from each other are not visiting each other that often and relationships are

There are many valuable things in life like family, sports, school but what about friendship? To live life without friendship is something no one should ever go through. Friendship is a necessity to living a successful life. Friendship occurs when someone is a supporter, gives assistance, and is attached to someone all the while genuinely taking care of them when they are hurt (The definition of friend, 1995-2002). A good and healthy friendship can be defined fro individuals as when someone has his or her own support system, a friend being loyal, and will always have genuine and mutual trust.

To form a relationship it is thought we must look at different factors before we decide whether it is something we want to invest ourselves in. Within this topic there are a number of different theories, one of them being the matching hypothesis theory. This can be affected by many factors, one being proximity. This is the geographical and physical closeness of those considering a relationship, its clear we cannot get in to a relationship with someone we don't know or never met therefore proximity is a must for a relationship to form. Festinger et al (1950) conducted a study on proximity, they looked at how students living on a university campus formed friendships and relationships. The results showed the the students who lived near the entrance had more friends than those who lived further away, the students were more likely to be friends with those next door or two doors down rather than at the opposite end of the corridor. Festinger et al concluded that the more frequent the interaction, the more likely a friendship or relationship would develop. This study was seen to have high validity as it was concluded in a natural and real life situation however it did not suggest any roma...
This paper will discuss developing and maintaining relationships in relation to my own relationships with my family, friends, and boyfriend.
One of the most important details in a friendship is to never leave or forsake the other. A friend is also loyal, for example in the movie Lord of the Rings, Froto and Sam Wise had a wonderful fellowship. They lived in peace and in one accord. Also in the movie, gandalf sent froto on a mission. Froto was scared and he didn’t want to go on the journey by himself.
Relationships, especially close and trusting relationships, are very important for the positive, social and psychological growth of the individuals involved in the relationship. In our world, people in close relationships desire physical contact, emotional support, acceptance, and love. These traits and feelings are part of human nature, and people strive for these types of interpersonal relationships in order to fulfill the void in people’s lives and, above all, to make sense of live through trust, sharing, and caring. During my high school experience, I have met many interesting people in the classroom, as well as in sporting events. I made many new friends in sporting events and during school. Although none of these relationship ever turned into an intimate relationship, each relationship had different turning points. Mark Knapp suggest that interpersonal relationships develop through several stages. My relationship with my best friend, Sisalee, has gone through the coming together stages initiating, experimenting, intensifying, and integrating.
