In this modern world, learning a new language is a huge endeavor in a person’s life. In order for someone to learn a new language, it is necessary for them to learn the language structure, its phonemes, facial expressions, word collocations, and other detail aspects related to learning a language. When communicating with someone that can fluently speak the language you are trying to learn, talking to them may be a challenge because it takes awhile for someone who is foreign with the language to find the right words to properly express the message you are trying to convey. In learning the English language, I usually focus on learning words through images and books. I hardly ever translate the words to or from my language because translating it wouldn’t really be exactly the meaning I was looking for. I have been in the course of learning the English language, since I was in kindergarten or about 4 years of age. At that age, I was already exposed to reading, writing, speaking and listening in English. As I remembered, we as a class learned how to speak simple English words and phrases. At the same time we were taught how to say our names and learned the English alphabet. When we moved on to a different topic, which was speaking simple English sentences like “The sky is blue.” and “Roses are red. ” I became nervous for the reason that I don’t really know what a sentence was at that time and I never learned what goes in a sentence. Although at that time, remembering twenty-six letters of the alphabet and saying them was confusing and quite difficult. For me, it was like taking an upper division cl...

In today’s growing economy, knowing a foreign language can really open up opportunities, like getting a good paying careers. Most employers want to hire those who have a good understanding of the world they live and the cultures of others. A great way to learn about other cultures is through studying languages. That is the reason why I studied a globally recognized language and its culture, which is English and recently Spanish, is not because it is required to pass school, but in order for me to effectively communicate with others and not to be ignorant and prejudice about the world around me.
Being familiar with several different languages is most definitely not one of the easiest things to do. While growing up and experiencing different opportunities to learn different cultures there is no way it should be passed upon. Having the knowledge of different languages will offer one to have a lot more culture within there main culture and the one they are opening there self into. People with culture know their way around the world and the life they’re living. Also, it would permit one to travel to places all over the world and countries. Being knowledgeable about back rounds of several cultures will open a door for one with several opportunities throughout ones life time. Discovering different cultures will bring one around the world giving individuals chances to learn lifestyles in completely different ways. “Wild tongues can’t be tamed, they can only be cut out.” (Anzaldua) I enjoy this statement within writing my essay simply because it represents that she will continue to stay faithful to her language throughout her life.
Exposing children to different cultures is necessary, and our culture needs to face that soon. It is proven that foreign language study can create more positive attitudes and less prejudice toward different cultures, which shows just how important foreign language really is (Latimer). Additionally, international travel is made a lot simpler (Latimer). Not to mention, speaking a foreign language can help to save money and improve a person's overall experience during their travels. Music is an important element in C.R.A.Z.Y. as it allows Zac to both express himself and escape his problems. In the film, Zac is seen idolizing the singer David Bowie. While in his room, he dresses up like Bowie and sings along to Bowie’s song “Space Oddity”. “Space Oddity” follows an astronaut called Major Tom who ends up losing his connection to Ground Control and gets lost. This song serves as a key metaphor for Zac’s life. When Zac was little, he had a special bond with his father. However, when it became obvious that Zac was “soft” and too feminine, the relationship was ruined. Despite all of his efforts and prayers, the older he got, the more clear it became that Zac liked men. This furthered the wedge between he and his father and began

The process of learning a second language has many difficulties, but my process of learning another language reminds me to when I was a child trying to learn the alphabet and accomplishment the skills of speech to be able to communicate with others. Today, after the process I already did when I was a child, I have to start again in order to learn another language. First, I start to learn the alphabet that was not difficult at all; however, as I was learning more advance terms, learning English began to become more complex, but “The first step had been taken. Mistress, in teaching me the alphabet, had given me the inch, and no precaution could prevent me from taking the ell” (Douglass 101). In my English class the professor made me to learn ten simple words every single week although the problem was that every single word I had to know the correct spelling, pronunciation, and the use of the word. The process of learning new vocabulary was not as tough as being able to make coherent sentences. I remember, I joined into a conversation club with others students who want to learn English too, but some students had a higher or lower knowledge of English ; as a result, we exchanged our knowledge with the other students; learning from each other like Douglass when he learned from the other white boys; in contrast, he exchanged bread

I am currently a sophomore at the University of California, Davis. Due to its diversity, I was able to encounter and meet a lot of international students in this school. Back when I was a freshman, I spoke to many international students and I notice that many of them excel in different courses such as math and science. Yet many international students disclosed to me that they struggle in English like me. Most of the students that I spoke have a difficulty in learning the context thought. This led me to what may be the cause of this problem such as the fast phase of the class and also not requiring international students to learn an additional language such as Spanish.
Therefore, this is able to encourage the ability to communicate and appreciate the depth and diversity of the world. Communication with two different countries, or three, or four, will further bring the world closer together, in hopes of closing the divide between some countries. By learning a second language, it can significantly broaden your native language as it gives you stronger vocabulary skills, improved literacy skills and a better understanding of the grammar and construction of your own native language. Furthermore, this can help you in other educational studies. Though it is possible to travel to another country without acquiring the native language, the experience you will have is greatly diminished as you will not see beyond the surface of their culture. Additionally, knowing the native language makes travelling easier, by being able to order meals in restaurants, ask and understand directions. Additionally, it makes it easier to find accommodation, it’s more enjoyable, informative and more satisfying. You are able to further understand and appreciate international literature, music and films, by being able to understand word plays, innuendoes, cultural references, metaphors and further improve your ability to speak the
In today’s schooling system most high school students are required to take at least 2 to 4 years of a foreign language in order to graduate. However, some people do not understand the importance of taking a different language, until it is time to get a job or while they are in their current job. It is significant that we take at least 2 years of a foreign language in both high school and college and try to learn as much as possible because learning a new language can open up so many doors.
