Julie Andrews performance in The Sound of Music was anything but ordinary. Andrew’s role as Maria secured her tittle as one of the greatest actresses of her time, though The Sound of Music was only her second onscreen performance. She played the role of Maria with such strength and kindness yet, in a very assertive manor; when standing up for the children against Captain Georg Johannes Ritter von Trapp. In the film, being it a musical, Julie Andrews shows off her stunning vocal abilities with her intense 5 octave range. She transitions from song to song with such ease that it makes you believe that you could sing it as she can. Andrews shows her “acting chops” with her apparent onscreen chemistry with the other actors. In such scenes as when she confesses her feelings for Captain von Trapp to Mother Abbess; you can practically see the chemistry between the two actresses as well as the chemistry between Julie Andrews and the children, along with Captain von Trapp himself all throughout the movie. Leto played a more serious character, portraying an aids-ridden, cross dressing, homosexual, who was always attempting to make light of his unimaginable situation. Leto’s character finds purpose helping the main character of the movie sell drugs to other people suffering from the same disease. However, throughout the movie you can see the character struggle with his personal demons that hinder his life and ultimately lead to him dying. For example, you can feel his inner pain in scenes like when he breakdown in front of his estranged father, and all of the times he uses hardcore drugs to make himself feel better about his situation. Jared Leto completely throws himself into this character, even losing over 40 pounds to correctly portray his sickly character. Rash uses Jared's character to show why he cannot give a trustworthy, objective truth. In the story, Jared's actions show that he does not understand death when entering the plane after discovering the dead bodies of a pilot and passenger. Rash writes, “Jared placed the knife in his pocket and climbed into the back seat and closed the passenger door” (281). He does not fully understand the seriousness of death and it does not frighten him. Jared has a big imagination and tries to help by bringing tools and repairing the plane. In Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess, 2004), the character known as Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder) is quite a unique fellow. His quirkiness and eccentricity are what make him as a character; they are the primary traits of his personality. Keep in mind, however, that he is not the only odd character in the film, but he has his own peerless way of defining himself separate from any other character(s). This effect is achieved through certain cinematic techniques that director Jared Hess utilizes in order to bring out Napoleon’s persona in ways other than simply “guessing” who he really is. Rather, these techniques “explicitly imply” certain character traits; they are like clues that allow one to see the character just as the creator intended. Through mise-en-scene, sound, and acting and performance, Napoleon Dynamite emphasizes and comments on the character of Napoleon, defining his physical and social nature.
For Edna, the times that Reisz plays are times when she "take[s] an impress of the abiding truth" and realizes her true desires(p.34). When Edna visits her, Reisz first improvises at the instrument and then plays the Impromptu which itself has original and adventurous themes. Through music Edna realizes the importance of being self-actualized and making choices. She again feels the same as that night when "new voices awoke in her"—when through music, the way to genuine freedom was revealed to her (p.84). However, having freedom comes with responsibility, which like giving birth to art, requires special skill. For Edna, the fantasies of freedom are transformed into reality wholly only in music and possibly the inability to acquire the skill to deal with her new emotions in life explains the dramatic conclusion to the journey and exploration of the passions that begin on the island.

It shows just how depraved, violent and absolutely terrifying humans can easily become when put into situations without consequences. Romero’s film is dredged in cynicism towards the modern American Dream, the way he deals with symbolism towards how “just” the American system is during battles and war, and how incredibly messed up our generalized view on racism and the ever ongoing struggle for certain ethnic groups to survive is. “The negativity of the characters extends, in fact, into every facet of their lives; indeed, the film implies the deepest denial of the goodness of effectiveness of every facet of human life in general. Every kind of human relationship is ridiculed or negated in the film.” 4
Tori Gresham also had a wonder voice that was enjoyable to listen to throughout the performance. I thought that the sound was just perfect. I was clearly able to hear, and understand each character thought the entire performance. Each character sang very well, and performed every performance to its fullest potential. There was not one character that disappointed me.
In the movie Silverlining Playbook, directed by David O. Russell, Patrick Solatano who is diagnosed with bipolar disorder who is released from a mental institution and partners up with tiffany in the hopes to get back with his wife. In Perks of being a wallflower directed by Steven Chobsky, Charlie suffers from depression after his best friends suicide and PTSD due to being sexualy abused by his Aunt Karen at an early age. Both directors effectively depict these varying mental disorders in american society by accurately portraying the mental disorder symptoms, relating the conflicts to the audience, and by challenging previous negative stereotypes.

History has and will continue to be one of the main subjects that the movie industry has been fascinated with. It is an alive and very fragile subject that, through its multi-dimensional character, requires careful attention by everyone involved in the project. Whenever Hollywood tackles an historical topic, whether portraying a non-disputable factual event or only a vaguely one, the industry is bound to encounter dispute and criticism.
People who have this disorder are usually self-centered and have a hard time maintaining relationships. This is clear as in the entire movie he doesn’t seem to care about his fiance. He had sex with many other women, and when he was asked if he was dating anybody he responded by saying, “not really.” This also shows how he was a liar. He constantly lied to get out of situations and to make himself feel better. For example, he believed that he made a reservation at a restaurant when they were clearly all booked. As well as being a pathological liar, he was also decietful. He tricked a prostitute into thinking she was safe by going to his apartment. He ended up murdering her with a chainsaw. He was always rude and straightforward to others as he was inconsiderate of anyone’s feelings. He told a woman he worked with exactly what to wear; and if she did not look good he would tell her she was ugly. He was very shallow and arrogant as he cared very much about his facial features. Patrick did not display many emotions except for greed and digust. He showed zero remorse for the people he murdered; it was as if nothing happened. People with antisocial personality disorder also show recklessness. In conclusion, the most enjoyable part of the opera concert was Alexandra’s beautiful angelic voice. She made it seem like singing those pieces was easy. She sounded like a professional with the pronunciation of the Italian and German words, and the articulation of the notes was absolutely incredible.

Americans want to experience, feel and relate to situations that aren't always possible. Theatre and movies allow the audience to escape from everyday anxieties and stress, to imagine what life would be like if viewed or taken from another perspective. However, there are other things beyond the obvious that relate to and help determine how the audience will react to a film. Such things as the genre that the film is placed in help to set expectations that will draw in a specific crowd of people expecting certain things. Some genres include; humor, action, romance, death, deceit, fantasy, horror, ect. The Phantom of the Opera is a classic, musical romance film popular because of its emphasis on love, constant entertainment, and powerfully touching music.
The Lion King musical is a well-known musical that has taken the stages of Broadway, West End and the rest of the world by storm (The Lion King, 1997). Regarding the process of the musical, Artistic Director Julie Taymor’s first thoughts for choosing the Lion King as the next big thing on stage, was classed as ‘impossible’ due to the film’s lack of theatrical material (The Lion King, 1997). Therefore, staging this particular work contained a great deal of uncertainty and the need for taking huge risks. Taymor (1997) suggests how ‘the Lion King was the worst idea possible to create a stage show.’ It has become evident that a number of significant barriers had to be overcome to secure the practicality of the production. In view of this controversy, this dissertation will critically analyse the success of the Lion King by exploring two significant aspects that have helped to make the musical a success. Firstly, the essential components that make up this theatrical production will be explored and secondly, the roles of each producer within the Lion King and their combined and individual influences they have had from the production will be evaluated. By analysing these two central themes, this paper will show how and why this musical has developed and achieved its phenomenal success.
