When speaking in terms of honor, knowledge is one perspective of which many look to find credit. Whether it be the highest honors in a spelling bee or in my case, honors classes, knowledge is measured by unthinkable standards. My first honors class was everything but easy and you may even say it wasn’t worth continuing on the honors track. From this experience I learned that honors class aren’t easy, good grades in them comes with good work ethic, and these are vital for post high school success.
Being that I'd come from a rural area middle school with limited options for class outside of required knowledge, honors classes were a token to me and I learned quickly that they weren’t easy whatsoever. I heard the word “honors” and instantly jumped
The National Honors Society is based off of four pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Character and Service. These are all characteristics a member of the National Honor Society should exhibit. I believe that I possess all of these characteristics and should be given the chance of becoming a NHS member. This has also been a goal of mine since freshman year and would mean a lot to me to be apart of such a prestigious organization.
Happy New Year and the second semester of the school year. The first semester was a test on how students would blend into the new academics. Honors English was a great choice I made in middle school and I would recommend it to any incoming freshman. I have learned new ways to create claims and the proper way to set up paragraphs. Learning the way to set up paragraphs has improved my writing skills, even out of the english classroom. English comes in handy in the World Geography classroom as I have learned and may be useful in the future.
Honor is having pride in one’s family name or self and having courage. Honor can be a blessing in some cases, but in other cases it can be a curse. Some people use honor to make themselves better, but others use honor to make others feel bad. The theme of honor is shown throughout American literature especially in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Great Gatsby, and Chinese Cinderella. Honor was first introduced in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
The four pillars of the prestigious National Honor Society demonstrate the traits I hope to continually develop: as a scholar, a leader, a volunteer and a person of strong moral fiber. I believe myself to be mature and motivated; I have an unyielding commitment to scholarship and intend to make a difference in the lives of everyone around me. The prospect of becoming a member has prompted me to take a look upon what I wish to accomplish as a part of this organization. By becoming an active participant, my goal is to enrich my school experience by means of volunteering in the community, serving as a role model for my peers, and fostering pride for our school.
Scholarship, leadership, character, and service are four attributes that define an excellent student. Being in high school, it’s difficult at times to be a leader, show your character, and be involved with voluntary services while being focused on scholarship, but I have managed to do all four numerous times. I am so grateful and excited to have the chance to be a part of the National Honors Society.
Throughout my educational experience, I’ve found that I thrive best in the most advanced courses where less time is spent on learning information and more time is spent on discussion. For example, in my IB HL Math course students are encouraged to discover new theorems and tools through teamwork and class discussion rather than just being given these new theorems and tools. This has allowed me to understand calculus on a deeper level and has made it one of my favorite courses. My other classes operate similarly in that students lead the discussion while the teacher observes and occasionally moves the discussion along. Students are encouraged to connect curricula across subjects, such as when we discuss physics in math, human rights in biology, or psychology in literature. The interdisciplinary and challenging courses offered through Stony Brook’s Honors College will allow me to take courses like the ones I’ve
During my early education, meaning elementary school and middle school, I was a very average student. I gave an average amount of effort to my grades, and I received above average results. This did not bother me, until the end of my 8th-grade year. At this point in the year, I was filling out what classes I desired to take the following year, my freshman year. I realized that from this point forward, I had to take my education much more serious, in order to get accepted to whichever college I desired. therefore, when planning my classes, I decided to challenge myself more than I ever have in the past, and take multiple honors courses. I assumed because of my grades, that I had what it took to be an honors-level student, but I was very wrong. One teacher, Mrs. Johnson, made me realize the kind of effort, time and energy needed to be devoted to my education.
The reason why I’ve selected this group for my study is because when starting college, I was very nervous that some of my professors would not understand why I learned in a different style than the other students in the class. But my expectations had surprised me, all of my professors were able to understand that although I would have taken a quiz in a different classroom, have a note taker or record their lectures. From this, the professors had seen the hard work and dedication. By joining the honor society, I learned how to my own advocate, which brought on new challenges because I was in
The National Honor Society picks their members based on their merit and the four pillars. These pillars aren’t just characteristics that are to be engraved into the students by NHS, they are characteristics each member already has instilled. Members of NHS represent them every day and as a member, it is my duty to uphold them even after graduating high school.
College readiness is the main focus point for high school students. Becoming that person that is able to achieve the highest potential in a certain area and obtain a degree is what each student aims for. However, for all that to occur one should be able to have the opportunities to help him or her reach the goals that have been set. The lack of AP classes that our school does not offer interferes with that. Our school offers eleven out of the forty AP classes that are available. In addition, some of the AP classes do not end up running because of the school policy of having a certain amount of students placed in it. The importance of AP classes is increasing when one fills out an application for his or her desired university. Having AP classes listed down on an application for a university enhances a student 's application. Colleges want to see that you have challenged yourself to the best of your ability, and that you were able to handle the college level coursework (hubpages).
The National Honor Society is known for recognizing students with commendable achievements in academics. I consider myself to have had commendable achievements in academics throughout my school career. I have made sure to fill my schedule with the most rigorous classes that I can handle. I have taken all honors classes since the beginning of high school, and I aim to continue taking honors and AP classes in the future to explore my true potential as a student. I
Liberty University is my dream school because of its solid Biblical foundation, opportunities for students, and excellent educational program. I have found all three of these qualities in my interaction with the university. I truly sense that Liberty wants what is best for its students both inside and outside of the classroom. In short, Liberty is my dream school because of its heart. The Honors Program at Liberty furthers my respect for Liberty by challenging its students and providing them with opportunities to succeed. Being accepted into the Liberty Honors Program would mean many things to me including preparing me for my future and giving me the chance to become a Champion for Christ. It would challenge and provide me with a close-knit Christian community, new growth opportunities, and a balance amidst the wide variety of new experiences. Being accepted into the Honors Program would further enable me to pursue and fulfill God’s purpose for my life.
It is important that we as people constantly make an effort to grow and improve in order achieve success and reach our full potential. National Honors Society is an exceptional opportunity that allows one to better themselves through leadership roles, working with others, and giving back to the community.
Within a typical high school, there will be many different kinds of students. Likewise, there will be many types of different classes. There will be students (similar to me when I was in high school) whose main focus is getting into a quality university program. For these students, there will be a rigorous set of honors courses. Any student may enroll in these courses; the advertised amount of extra work they require will keep out the students who don't belong in them.
