In my fieldwork/work it is sad to see the situations that children are placed in because bad behaviors and the situation that has caused homelessness. Some parents do not take their current condition serious, when they come into the shelter/program rules, goals, and follow-up with coaches/family advocate must be followed. It sad and frustrating when parents care more about themselves than their children; it's the children who suffer. The helping profession is caring about others and trying to assist them in improving their lifestyle for the future. She discusses how many of society groups illegal immigrants, mentally ill, jobless and many other categories under the homeless category.
It is estimated that, “each year, more than 3 million people experience homelessness, including 1.3 million children” (NLCHP). I have heard stories from my friends that are horrible, especially considering they were all under 18 during these events within their lives. Therefore, I believe the homeless youth in our community need more attention due to their age and lack of confidence. For example, my boyfriend Alex was homeless when we started dating. All of his siblings were taken away separately from child services due to abuse, addiction and neglect within his family. He lived in a shelter where teens were using drugs, stealing and some were even into prostitution. I do understand that not all shelters are this way, but in his experience, he has lived in three different ones and all of them had some of these factors within them. I used to believe there were many options for the homeless, especially teenagers, but from my own second-hand experiences there are really not that many alternatives. “Sometimes it is safer to sleep on the street than some homeless shelters we came across”, suggests Alex Black, a former homeless youth. These shelters can be horrifying to the point that many teens, including Alex, run away. Family homelessness is a fairly new social problem in America. Beginning in the early 1980’s, families with children have become the fastest growing segment of the homeless population.

Homelessness is caused by a wide range of things including financial issues. The life of a homeless person is hard and comes with set-backs and the constant need to overcome them. Homeless people go through many challenges in surviving without a home. They can suffer from health issues, hunger, and poor emotional well-being.
In the word homeless there are two root words, home and less. Home is what most people would define as the place where they live, or grew up. Less, simply means not as much as. When you combine the two together homeless equals someone who grew up in a home that was held to less standards than what they would normally be held up to. For example, someone who is homeless could live in a box, it sounds terrible but unfortunately it is a part of our reality. Not everyone can afford to live in a house, pay mortgage, and all the other expenses that come with the responsibility of owning a house, or home. Today homelessness still has an affect on many people.
After watching the video “Sociological Perspective Project: Homelessness,” and read the article “Community Level Characteristics Associated with Variation in Rates of Homelessness among Families and Single Adults I started to think about this more and started to read more on the topic and have I concluded , America could support its citizens better than it currently does by eliminating the progressive tax system, in which as wealth increases so does their income tax and implement tax incentives to encourage job creation. Loop holes should be eliminated in such systems as taxes, as well as welfare in order to prevent people from playing the system. The system should not be set up in such a way that filing for unemployment can be and often times is more profitable that holding a minimum wage job, which defeats the entire purpose of the welfare system. By adding these tax incentives to big business, it would encourage them to create new jobs, decreasing the number of people on welfare. A current social justice issue that is faced in our world today is people experiencing homelessness; this issue is a main focus in the Catholic Church.
This paper will explain approaches to resolve the social issue of homelessness in the state of Delaware. It will also explain a few reasons why homelessness should be addressed the correct way to potentially end it. I will describe the correlations of homelessness and health, the crimes involving and against the homeless, and lastly the families subjected to homelessness. A few solutions will be recommended in this paper also to optimistically achieve the goal of assisting the homeless and improving the assistance already given.
Imagine eating Christmas dinner underneath a bridge on the cold dirt because you and your family were evicted from your home. Just trying to find a single meal is what thousands of people, who live on the street, go through each day. They have been kicked out of their houses and apartments because they can't afford rent due to their low paying jobs.
Homelessness has become a problem in the city of Cincinnati. Many families are homeless because of job layoffs and exhausted unemployment benefits. Some employed families but do not earn enough wages to support a family and pay for adequate housing. Some people just plain refuse to pay their rent, as a result, the family will receive an eviction from their dwelling and because of the eviction, either they cannot obtain affordable housing under low income status or can’t afford the market rent, therefore they become homeless. Young single mothers can receive welfare benefits (Aid for Dependent Children) for 36 months. During that time they are suppose to be furthering their education or preparing to go to work. If neither is accomplished, the mother will receive medical for the children and food stamps only. If the family is not residing in subsidized housing they may have to stay with family members or seek emergency shelter. According to the Drop Inn center in Cincinnati, Ohio, more than half of the mentally ill is seeking shelter, mostly because they have no advocate (case manager) to make sure their rent is paid. The result is an eviction from the dwelling.
Homelessness is a growing epidemic across the country. Over 2 million people are homeless in America, and that number is increasing. 40% are families with kids, 30% are drug and/or alcohol addicts, 23% are mentally ill and 10% are veterans (Triplett, 2004, para. 1). This terrible misfortune has led to many unsuspecting people leading impoverished lifestyles, and facing the horrific and heart-wrenching tragedy of abandonment. The purpose of this essay is to not only persuade the readers to get involved in ending homelessness on local and national efforts, but to embrace new and creative ways of helping to end this rapidly growing problem, by taking action to end this catastrophic situation. Also, the causes and effects of why the homeless resort to violence, will be demonstrated by using comparison and contrast to examine the views and standpoints on helping the forgotten, so that we might end this calamity once and for all. Homeless is a provisional condition that individuals fall into when they can't stand to pay for a spot to live, or when their present home is dangerous or unsteady. Different variables, for example, work misfortune, physical and mental disability, different hardships including individual, and substance abuse can pussed people's slide into destitution, and for some, inevitable homeless, particularly without legitimate social administrations.
