The Importance Of God The Father In My Life

Growing up in a Christian home, I felt like I have always had a sort of understanding about who God was/is. I was homeschooled by my mother who thought that Christian education was important in her children’s lives. Every morning, before we started school, she would sit us down at the dinner table and we would sing hymns and she would read us a bible story. This shaped my understanding and knowledge of the bible. She instilled in me a love for the bible and an interest in what God is trying to tell me through the bible. My father is also a major role model in my life, he has shown me what a Christ-following man should be. He was always around, whether if he was showing up to our sporting events or just telling us that he was proud of his kids,

They were key in my understanding of what a Christ-following young person should look like and act like. God the Father is the head of the trinity, while the others play major parts, God is the head. He is powerful, almighty, and loving to all of his beloved children. There was a time about 3 years ago when I was on a mission’s trip in Haiti, where I felt God’s power among his people. Our group had gone off to visit a local, poorer community where Voodoo was more prominent. Our purpose of the visit was to hand out rice, beans, and even goats to provide milk. When we arrived at the community, there was a woman who was on the ground, thrashing and yelling and pulling at her hair. She had a demon in her head. At that moment I felt entirely powerless, yet completely unafraid. I knew in that moment that God was more powerful than any demon could ever be. When the pastors of the village held her down and prayed over her writhing body, her screams grew louder. The demon was obviously in distress when they prayed in the name of Jesus. The Holy Spirit moves among us and will cause us to act on certain things. The Holy Spirt pushes us to get out of our comfort zone and into a place where we can spiritually grow. When we read in ‘Vivid’, Aaron Baart described the Holy Spirit as a crazy uncle who no one can predict what he will do next. He describes the Holy Spirit as more of a force than a person. The Holy Spirit gives us the strength of Jesus and nudges us to move. I have felt the Holy Spirit’s presence and slight nudges of several different occasions, some I remember and some I do not. I have felt a slight tug in my heart during youth group or Sunday school to speak up about what I have to say. I don’t know why God wants me to speak up in those moments, perhaps so my questions or comments lead to a realization for another person. There are times where I just feel the presence of the Holy Spirit in times of worship or in times of prayer. There is a comfort and hope that fills up a room. The Spirit can move us to do some crazy things, and there is a quote from Vivid that says, “I can do greater things than Jesus”. It is insane to think that I can do greater things than Jesus did with the Holy Spirit by my side. Jesus healed the sick, gave the blind new eyes, walked on water, and rose from the dead. With the Holy Spirit inside me, nudging me to move and say things that I normally would not be able to say or do, I can do more.
