Community is defined as, “An interacting population of various kinds of individuals in a common location”. Because there are various kinds of people in a community that also means there are many different situations those people could be in. It is important to give back to the community not only because it feels good but also to just help other people. I like going to the Boys & Girls Club because it gives me a positive place to go outside of school where I get to participate in fun activities and meet new people and give back to others.
I have done many things to give back to the community and the people in it. Something I like to think about is no matter how bad of a situation someone is in, there is always someone who has it worse. Even a person someone sees as equal to them, such as peers

could be in a way worse situation and it is important to help when needed. I have also been in Girl Scouts since I was 7. This past year for my Cadette Girl Scout Silver Award, my partner and I’s focus was to give back to our own community. We knew that in our school specifically there were students who go to school hungry because their family couldn’t provide them with food. So, we decided to construct a food drive. We planned it out, set it up, promoted it at our school, and helped organize the food once we donated it. We donated all of the food that we raised to the Willard Food Pantry which provides for families of students in the school district. We also made two baby blanket quilts and donated them to Isabel’s House Crisis Nursery. Some other things I have done with Girl Scouts are trash walks, helping out with younger troops, volunteering to play bingo with elders at a nursing home, and planted a rain garden at a park near us. Because I am only 15 years old, there aren’t a lot of things in my life that I can control. But, volunteering is something I can control. I can decide what I enjoy doing and find somewhere to help people out. At the food pantry Crosslines, I have done things like distributing food during the holidays to people over 60 years old, stocking shelves, and handing out commodities there. For my school softball team we volunteered at A Sporting Chance Pancake Breakfast. There we served people who paid for pancakes, the money went toward the special education system in my school district. Now, I want to volunteer at the Humane Society and I am hoping I can get involved with that by joining PAWS club, a club at my school where people make toys, volunteer, and donate money for animals. The Boys & Girls Club is important to me because I have gone since I was six years old, this summer will be my ninth.
I volunteer with the youth there because if they see someone older than them taking an interest in helping other people they may want to help out also. It has helped me discover possible career options such as teaching or child care. At the Boys & Girls Club I have experienced more things than I would have if I didn’t attend. Every summer I meet new friends, make great memories, and volunteer. It also gives me somewhere to go so I can express myself outside of the people I go to school with every day during the school year. Many people I consider great friends and best friends I have met at the Boys & Girls Club.
A way that I define community is a group of people who work together to make a difference in the lives of others. By volunteering at places like Crosslines and other food pantry’s I feel like I do that. I also feel like I make a difference in the lives of others when I volunteer with youth at the Boys & Girls Club and with younger Girl Scout troops. I hope that I influence them to volunteer and give back to their community when they are
older.
Community is defined as a group a people living in an area under the same conditions. Realistically, a community is so much more than this definition. It is people and their different beliefs that form a community. In the town of Milagro, Amarante Cordova, Ruby Archuleta, and a town coming together to rescue a fellow community member from jail exemplify the true spirit of what community is.
I help out my family and community in several ways. I have volunteered to help coach cheerleading at Jefferson Elementary School everyday after school. I work at Mattoon Academy of Gymnastics and coach several classes and their gymnastics team. I also work in my church's nursery on Sundays. Being a role model for all of the kids I coach and take care of means a lot to me because they look up to me and want to follow in my footsteps. Despite my busy schedule, I try to help out in the community and with my family as much as
A community is to help and support each other to be successful. Everyone is involved in a certain community regardless of anything. A community I am commit with is CAMP from CSUMB which stands for College Assistance Migrant Program. My community is a federally funded program that assists first year freshmen who have a migrant background and students whose parents are seasonal farmworkers. CAMP assist their students with many useful services such as with a grant of up to 1,200 dollars. My community is very important to me for the reason they are guiding me to be successful while encouraging me to graduate from college. In my community we tend to communicate really often such as in the article "Learning to Serve" by Toni Mirabelli. As in the article, my community also communicates by using various literacy such as writing, reading , and speaking.
I think that community service is something that everyone should do. Some people only do community service because they need the hours for school or an extracurricular activity, but when you something nice for another person, it not only makes you feel 100 times better about yourself, it also, whether you know it or not, improves another person's life. Being able to give to another person without expecting anything in return is the best quality that a person can have because the 21st century is a time where a portion of people have what they want at their fingertips. What some people don't realize is that not everyone has the blessings of living the life that they have, that is why I try so hard to give back to the community. I personally do community service a lot, and seeing the faces of the people that I have helped means so much to me because I know deep down that I have done something that required me to put others needs before my own. I get that feeling when I help out in the special needs class at my school. I feel complete when the students give me hugs and thank me for my help. That feeling motivates me and makes me a happier person. Even when all I can do for another person is make them smile, I feel like I have done something important that has helped someone more than I
A community is the feeling of togetherness felt in a setting with a group of people who share similar characteristics. Living in Scott Hall my freshman year of college, shaped my view of community quickly. Going to organized events, socializing in common areas and interacting with my Resident Advisors gave me an ideal
A community: otherwise a group of people who share common culture and heritage a populace, an alliance, an association, a neighborhood, a district, a society. A dictionary definition is what the population settles for as far as the context where they consider themselves as apart of a community. The word community in the 14th century, had derived from the word “common,” in that time, meaning fellowship in a ‘community’ of relations or feelings. However, the term then became used concretely as to pertain to a body of fellows or townsmen. It is vital though, that the youth involves themselves genuinely in a community, and not assume that they’ve done so simply by physically moving into one. Such a task means a challenge, however, through awareness and inspiration, the benefits of being apart of a community are within reach.
What is a community? Defined in the dictionary a community is “a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.” (Webster). Communities bring people together but they are tear relationships apart. In the following stories the authors of this story demonstrates community as a whole. In Fully Alive, Story Telling Animal, Robopocalypse, Stepford Wives, The Happiness Machine, The Girl Who was Plugged In and The Cave, are stories that deal with community and how it is negative and positive for the characters in the books.
Since I knew who I was volunteering with, I was able to enjoy volunteering with them. It also helped me become closer to some of the girls. I also love kids and teaching them new things. In addition, the topic I was teaching about also interests me so it was easy to teach them something I was very familiar with, I also gives a sense of achievement when I am able to successfully teach someone something that they can pass on to the next generation. I loved the feeling I got from volunteering.
A community is comprised of a group of goal oriented individuals with similar beliefs and expectations. Currently the term is used interchangeably with society, the town one lives in and even religion. A less shallow interpretation suggests that community embodies a lifestyle unique to its members. Similarities within the group establish bonds along with ideals, values, and strength in numbers unknown to an individual. Ideals and values ultimately impose the culture that the constituents abide by. By becoming part of a community, socialization...
I intend to give back to the community by combining knowledge obtained from the study of Psychology with the leadership skills I have gained by working in a tutorial program into a wide scale program for underprivileged school children of my community.
My plan after college is to become a Sociologist or a Social Worker. With a college degree in one of these areas, I hope to impact my community in various ways. First, with the knowledge obtained from college, I hope to counsel with young people who are on the verge of going astray. In today's society, there are so many negative factors that influence young people. I want to help them understand the importance of setting goals and striving to become productive citizens. I also want to give them a sense of hope that with perseverance, they can become great role models for other young people.
A Community can be defined as a group of people who don’t just live in the same area, but also share the same interests, experiences and often concerns about the area in which they live. Often when individuals have lived on a street or in an area for a while they become familiar with each other and the issues surrounding them. Children often attend the same schools and grow up together, again sharing similar experiences. In some instances adults may work together, and quite commonly all community members will share the same doctors, dentists, hospitals, health visitors and other public services and facilities.
Though, the concept of community service is not very new its importance has developed in the past few years. There are thousands of organizations all over the world that engage and hold millions of young people all through the world. People of all age groups, with a maximum number of youth are involved in the process of community service. Community-based organizations include; social service organizations, non-profit providers and associations that engage both young people as well adults as volunteers. The process is beneficial both for the individuals as well as the society. Without community service people would not know the meaning of charity and giving back. Community service can be defined as a service that is performed for the benefit of the public. Community service is not a responsibly or an obligation; it is a commitment. A person must want to do it with good intentions and not because they are being forced to do so. Basically, community service is a way for a person to give back to a community in which they live.
The Role of Community in Society Communities are an essential part of our society, because we all depend and interact with each other. Communities are groups of people that help an individual to learn and develop new ideas. A society is where people’s relations with each other are direct and personal and where a complex web of ties link people in mutual bonds of emotion and obligation. The idea of community has provided a model to contrast to the emergence of more modern less personal societies where cultural, economic and technological transformations have uprooted tradition and where complexity has created a less personal and more rationalized and goal directed social life.
These experiences have afforded me opportunities to demonstrate my gifts and talents that had previously gone undiscovered. Through different community service opportunities, I either learned something new about myself or I was reassured something. These qualities include that I am creative, reliable, open-minded, passionate, and an effective team player. Community service changed my life by developing my character through enhancing my transferable skills, which allowed me to see the world differently. Everyone, from all walks of life, needs to in some way, shape, or form give back to the community because it will not only benefit the less fortunate but it will benefit the volunteers as well. Additionally, I learned about the wide variety of resources available to help the community. There are so many resources out there that people are ignorant to like certain shelters and food banks. Ultimately, community service taught me the greatest gift I could ever receive, how to be
