*insert good title* Has someone ever come into your life that you know will always be there for you? Someone who the mere thought of makes you smile? For me that person came into my life seven years ago the form of a girl named Grace. Take one move between cities, two color runs, three camping trips, and a whole lot of weekend sleepovers and you’ve got an unbreakable friendship. In the film, Holes, the director Andrew Davis teaches us that friendship can help you achieve and accomplish amazing things. One of the most memorable friendships of the early 2000s is portrayed in the movie Napoleon Dynamite. When the two main characters Napoleon and Pedro meet, they become fast friends. Napoleon and Pedro stay loyal to each other throughout the entire movie, despite what others might think. This is similar to how John Steinbeck portrays friendship in his novella Of Mice and Men. The friendship between the main characters of the novella, George and Lennie, is unexpected. They choose to stand by each other regardless of society’s expectations. Through this, Steinbeck communicates the theme that a loyal friend can be a haven in a heartless world.
To begin with, according to Lucius Annaeus Seneca, “One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be understood”. Even this quote explains that true friendship is when an individual stands for another individual. In the novel Of Mice and Men, author John Steinbeck examine the idea of friendship between two migrant ranch worker even when there was difficulties. Through the character of Slim and George, author Steinbeck illustrates friendship and reveals that friendships stand up for each other even when is difficult time.
A friend doesn’t have to be a human, a friend can be anyone who cares. This story also taught
Friendship is an unbreakable bond between two people and contains loyalty and love. In the story Chains, Isabel finds herself in grand friendships that play throughout the story. She showed how devoted she was towards Lady Lockton, Curzon, and Ruth by being there for them during tough times. In the end, friendship is the light through the darkness, powerful and important.
Friendship can be debated as both a blessing and a curse; as a necessary part of life to be happy or an unnecessary use of time. Friends can be a source of joy and support, they can be a constant stress and something that brings us down, or anywhere in between. In Book 9 of Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle discusses to great lengths what friendship is and how we should go about these relationships. In the short story “Melvin in the Sixth Grade” by Dana Johnson, we see the main character Avery’s struggle to find herself and also find friendship, as well as Melvin’s rejection of the notion that one must have friends.
In Finding Forrester a movie that takes place in the Bronx, there are two main characters, William Forrester and Jamal Wallace who find friendship in an unlikely way because of their passion for reading and writing. Though both are very different from each other they are drawn together by similar interests.
The movie I chose to watch and write about is Holes. It follows a boy named Stanley Yelnats IV. Stanley is accused and found guilty of stealing “Sweef Feets” shoes and sent to a correction camp for troubled boys, Camp Green Lake. The camp is in the middle of the desert where the boys must dig holes the same height as the shovel and the same width as well everyday. The task is to build character in the boys. There he meets Hector Zeroni, also known as Zero. Zero has not talked to anyone the entire time he’s been there; arriving before Stanley. Zero only begins to talk to Stanley when he realizes Stanley is at the correction camp because Zero himself stole the shoes and in panic threw them where they hit Stanley. In his guilt, Zero begins to help Stanley dig his hole because he digs much faster than anyone else in the camp and teaches him tricks to finish faster on his own. In return Stanley teaches Zero to read. Zero never learned the skill as result of his troubled past.
The Pact There is not much that separates our kind from lower species of life. Our intellect, communication skills and opposable thumbs are a few of the many advantages to being a human. Human’s ability to construct a deep and rewarding lifelong friendship is no less incredible than any of the previously mentioned traits. These friendships are an integral part of our lives each and everyday, and friendships that last can certainly help lead to ones success later on in life. I have had many very close friends in my life and they all have helped me in their own way.
friendship that it is so valuable? And, more specifically, how does this truth fit with
Friendship is not something that has adapted over time. The desire to seek out and surround ourselves with other human beings, our friends, is in our nature. Philosophers such as Aristotle infer that friendship is a kind of virtue, or implies virtue, and is necessary for living. Nobody would ever choose to live without friends, even if we had all the other good things. The relationship between two very different young boys, Bruno and Shmuel’s in the film The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is an example of the everlasting bond of a perfect friendship based upon the goodness of each other.
Friendship is reported here by Paterson in story form; that friendship whether serious or not has ended in tragedy. There will never be a friendship that lasts forever, that is in the mortal life, and, although affairs happen to change and affect the outcomes of that friendship, there will always be a story to tell about any life with or even without friendship, such as that of Jesse and Leslie, simple yet very complicated and heartfelt. Story form, yet very unreliable, is the only way to explain it, as long as the story entails all the necessary elements.
As friends, we all make sacrifices for each other. Some friends risk their lives for a friend. An example of this true friendship can be found in the movie, American Pie. Todd had a championship football game, but on the same day there was an All-State choir going on. Todd and his girlfriend were both into choir. He couldn’t be in two places at once, so he gave up his football game so that he could be with his girlfriend. Everyone on the football game looked up to him because he made a sacrifice to be with his girlfriend. When his girlfriend asked why. He responded, I did it for you. This shows friendship through a humble heart.
When you’re young, you don’t care about how a person looks or acts, they’re just people, friends. Growing up, you’ll find that qualities a friend has to have or can’t have become very important. It took a special kind of friend to show me that the true heart of a person is what really counts.
Growing up in school you have your friends in 1st, then in Jr. High, and then when you get to high school you might not even know or see your friends from 1st grade anymore. For the few people who’s had a friend from 1st grade till college I think that someone they need to hold on to because if they stuck with you through all them year I know they’re there for the right reason and there not just there for a season. As Elizabeth Dunphy says, “It’s the little things that matter, that add up in the end, with the priceless thrilling magic found only in a friend.”
