“Freedom is meant by someone can do whatever they want in their life as long as they don’t break the law.” (Teen Ink). Parents around the world restricts their kids from going out and doing what they want because they think something bad will happen. Kids now get less freedom than their parents did. Although parents try to protect their children by establishing rules, parents should give their kids freedom to increase trust, become accountable, and put an end to their rebellious nature. Parents don’t trust their kids because they are scared of what they may do with their freedom, however, having trust can help kids use their freedom wisely. According to Odyssey, “Strict parenting creates sneaky children,” or at least that’s how the saying …show more content…
In this way, children know how to manage their own life and their will learns how to solve any problems that they will face in future.” This shows that, freedom can help show children how life is their responsibility. To add on, it allows them to know what it takes to manage their life and problems. In addition, “In this issue, we need to know that all people have their own freedom even for children because different people have a different story in their life” (Teen Ink). This is important because it proves that kids will need to learn what to want to do with their life. Also, kids will learn that they need to take care of their life and do what they want to do while staying safe, staying legal, and not against their parents laws. Freedom helps teach kids the importance of managing life and what they want to do. Parents believe that going out causes kids to rebel, although, it will actually end rebellious behavior. Dr. Julie Carbery said "What's going on is freedom. Freedom is cocaine to a teenager. It's intoxicating. It's addictive. And it is often their biggest motivator. They will do anything to get it, and they are terrified of losing it." If children are so afraid of losing freedom then they won’t do anything to break parents rules knowing what the punishment would be freedom being taken away. This is important because they will be
In many ways, parents encourage kids to think for themselves. By simply picking out their clothes or packing their own lunch, children move away from following their parents, and towards the formation of their own identities.... ... middle of paper ... ... What separates us from our parents and our friends, our neighbors, our coworkers—it’s rebellion.
With freedom comes great responsibility. This saying has been heard by generations of kids and has been said by generations of parents. Unfortunately people today don?t seem to be responsible in certain things they do. You see things in media today that make you wonder when you draw the line on things you say and do. William Golding the author of Lord of The Flies conveys this thought in the story of the boys stuck on the island where they have complete freedom to do whatever they want to do. They no longer had adults to tell them what and how to do things. The story just proves that when people are irresponsible and freedom gets abused that very bad things can happen.
...ople that everyone 's freedom depends upon that state. my child to learn is the importance of words and the necessity of asking questions and thinking to see the ideas behind the words
In the novel, The Giver by Lois Lowry, the author makes it clear through the main character Jonas that freedom and safety need to find an equal balance. Lowry shows the importance of deep emotions and family through Jonas. Jonas becomes the new receiver of memory and learns about the past. He also learned about the way it was when people knew what love was. Jonas’ father releases newborn children because they don’t weight the correct amount of weight or they don’t sleep well through the night. Release is a nice way of saying kill; the people of the community don’t know what kill means. They don’t have the freedom to expand their vocabulary. Lois Lowry makes it clear that safety has a negative side and you need that you need freedom to have a high functioning community.
Freedom is having the right to own, act, think, and speak without any restrictions from the outside. Ever since the New World was discovered, people have been fighting for their independence till this day. People of other colors and race have been forced to do labor without their consent. Today, those same people have been blamed or accused of crimes that were not committed by them despite of being free. Freedom has different meanings and those meanings change overtime; however sometimes the significance of freedom does not change.
Freedom’s Children is a historical fiction book that tells the story of the major events of the Civil Rights Movements in chronological order from young Civil Rights activists point of view. The book is written from a journalist point of view interviewing the young activists about their experiences during the Civil Rights Movement. The book Freedom’s Children is a compilation of 30 different people’s experiences during the time period of the 50’s and 60’s. Freedom’s Children reveals the everyday struggles of young and old African American people alike; the constant disrespect and segregation they endured on a day to day basis. As i did research on this book, all of the people mentioned/ interviewed in this book existed and had some kind of
Because humans have free will, it is accepted that they may make mistakes along the way. The average person can handle free will. They know the difference from right and wrong and generally choose to do the right thing in tough situations. On the other hand, there is a lot of bad people in the world today and in the past. People who try and hurt others on purpose for no reason do not deserve the freedom given to them. Bullies in schools, for example, are given free will. Once they begin to act out and harm their peers, teachers begin to watch closely and slowly take away their freedom. This system works well through high school, however, once in college, most students do not have the supervision they may need. For this reason, unless, the bully is breaking the law, they are free to do as they please. This is a reason freedom might be considered
The more Freedom you hold, the less likely you are to want to be associated with with Society. Individuals are commonly restricting themselves from what they need and desire due to the pressures society has forced on them. People are moderating what they eat, increasing their expenditures, and doing things that do not please them or the people around them. The fact of the matter is that many individuals have lost sight of who they are and what they want for themselves and have focused more on what is trending or what famous people are doing. However, for those who find freedom more important than fitting in don’t stress out about what they need to spend money or time on. These people are content with themselves, and they can accomplish what they want and do what they desire. Freedom is one of the many benefits from liberating yourself from society’s tight
Dr.Gray, the author of “Free to Learn: Why Unleashing the Instinct to Play Will Make Our Children Happier, More Self-Reliant, and Better Students for Life”, said “If children are not allowed to take routine risks, they'll be less likely to be able to handle real risks when they occur.” So in reality, these parents are doing more harm than good. Kids need to become independent so they can make mistakes freely, learn from them, and grow as human beings. Dr.Gray also said, “Students are prepared academically, but they are not prepared to deal with day-to-day life, which comes from a lack of opportunity or deal with ordinary problems.” (Brody) Gray is suggesting that because parents are sheltering their kids, and tracking their every single movement, they will not be able to solve real world problems on their own, due to lack of experience. The child will not be able to think for themselves or handle everyday stress. Therefore purchasing SafeTrack will not allow children to become independent individuals, because they are relying on adults to solve all of their problems. They have been deprived the liberty of making mistakes, which they can learn
College students are getting many different educations between countries, and some countries focus on their imagination, and others focus on their solid knowledge. There is no doubt that America has one of the top education systems in the world, otherwise, wouldn’t attract so many international students. From the article, “We Should Cherish Our Children 's Freedom to Think” by Kie Ho, he shows what he thinks about American education. He mainly states that American education is the most top in the world and is a country of innovation, because its system is more about let students “think” and less focus on “actual knowledge.” Although I agree with Ho’s idea about student’s freedom to think, however, I disagree with Ho’s minding about students
For the last 18 years or so, we have been influenced and directed by parents, teachers, and other authority figures. We have been told when to get up, when to work, when to play, when to eat, sleep, come home, go out, etc., etc., etc. Now we are moving on. As we do, let me remind you of two principles we have been taught, the principle of freedom and the principle of success. As adults, a whole new world of personal freedom awaits us.
Children have been seen to act in a free manner, worrying mostly about themselves, over time learning to consider other’s views and feelings when completing an action. Typical adult actions, however, are almost entirely controlled by thoughts and feelings aware of the world around them. Children act on impulses, while adults have been mentally trained to act against these impulses, acting in a way to appear acceptable in their society, generally. There is a lot of pressure on adults to conform to act a certain way, as there is for children, but only adults feel this pressure. Children are somewhat aware of what they can get away with, as figuring this out is one of the basic ways they learn how to act. By the time they reach adulthood they understand what is acceptable at what times and what is not. Whether they conform to these standards or not is their choice, but they are aware of the fact that the standards do exists. Others around them know that they are aware of this, and have expectations, increasing the pressure to act that way. Children aren’t expected to be as aware, and other’s expectations are lower for them, allowing children more freedom under this pressure. So as children act on their impulses and learn what is acceptable, they begin to understand how to control their actions. This knowledge is always present in their actions as they become adults, as they now wear the pressure of conformity with every step they
Nowadays, there is a wide spread concern about what true education should be. Should we fill information into students’ mind, or should we give them freedom to think to study? In this modern developing society, students are more enthusiastic to learn freely and creatively. Kie Ho (2007) in his essay entitled, “We Should Cherish Our Children Freedom to Think,” delivers an extraordinary message- as expressed by the title. His message is that the schools and parents should teach students how to develop their creativities rather than trying to seal their heads with knowledge. I agree with Kie Ho because the true education for students is to be creative and to think freely at school with the progress of the society.
I understand that there is a great deal of opposition to this position, and the opposing viewpoint makes some valid arguments. One concern is that society is coddling today’s youth, and that they are not learning to take responsibility for their own actions enough. (Bradley)
While most parents realize there are normal struggles between parents and teens as their sons and daughters struggle for independence and identity, they are often shocked by the length and intensity of the conflict. They are stunned by apparent rejection of some of their most sacred values and confused by their teenagers "acting up" and "acting out." In attempting to become psychologically independent of their parents, teens often attempt to move completely away from any control or influence by their parents.
