Would you not agree you lose muscle movement and some reaction time when you get older?
Someone who has some of those abilities is just as dangerous as a new driver on the road. Even as you get older, you assume that you can cut corners driving, like rolling through a stop sign or making an illegally U-turn. Over time, you become more comfortable with driving that even the most extreme things seem okay to do while driving. The more people feel relaxed in the car the less they worry about actually being safe. According to the Center for Disease Control and

The decline in vision and movement when you get older is the main cause the ability for elderly people to not be able to operate a vehicle. February 2014 the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Highway Loss Data Institute (IIHS) released a report showing that older drivers are now less likely to be involved in a crash and less likely to be injured or killed” (“Older Drivers”). These reports have shown a decrease in elderly related crashes which might be from the weather some states have recently gotten. When these crashes do happen they usually steam from a vision or medical problem that the elderly driver had. With doing the eye and medical exam it might just be enough to stop some senior citizens from getting back on the road.
Taking your driver’s test again is beneficial because it tests your safety skills, updates your driving information, and evaluates your driving ability. Just because they do not want to lose their freedom does not mean someone has to lose their life. Not being prepared on the road is a very dangerous thing and should be taken more serious. There are hundreds of car accidents every year in every state. If we could start to fix some of these problems the road might be a safer place. Retaking your test after seventy is a great way to start. The rules of the road change all the time and your skills are not always as sharp as they once were. The test takes a total of fifteen to twenty minutes and you already have to go in to renew your license. The time needs to be taken to make sure even though a person is passed all exams they have a firm grasp on their driving skills. A test retake is very important to the safety of our
Statistics show 16- to 17-year-old driver death rates increase with each additional passenger, which is due to distracted driving. Taking your eyes off the road for 2 (two) seconds, at 60 mph, means you have driven blindly for half the length of a football field. The risk of fatality is 3.6 times higher, when they are driving with passengers than when alone. For many years, the correlation between driving behavior and age has interested highway safety researchers and administrators. It is general knowledge that the greatest risk of motor vehicle crash...

The only thing being more horrific than witnessing the crash is being the reason it started. There is no need to be on your phone while driving. Emails, texts, and social media can wait. Imagine sitting in a car with your good old pops. All of a sudden you look over and see he has blacked out, and is heading straight into another car. Now your pops is seriously injured ,and the people that were hit are in serious conditions. He is now depressed about what he has done and his health is plummeting. It is dangerous because the elderly drive reckless and when they drive reckless they crash. For example according to the article “Older Adult Drivers” in 2010, there were about 5,149,000 crashes accounted for. If the elderly stopped driving that number would go down by a lot. Another example explaining why the elderly should retake their test is because of the deaths. For Instance According to the article “Older adult drivers” there is an average of 15 older adult deaths by car crash a day. Another example from the article “older adult drivers” is in 2012 more than 5,560 elderly people died in a car crash. My last example for why car crashes are dangerous is the injuries. The elderly are injuring themselves by driving. For example according to the Article “Older Adult Drivers” There are more than 214,000 deaths among the elderly because of their driving, And that's not including the injuries the elderly because among other people when they hit them. In addition there are about 586 injuries among the elderly due to car crashes. So there for elderly drivers are too dangerous. On the side of the elderly, they have the most experience driving so they might crash
It is a well known fact that when you get older, you are more likely to experience certain health problems. With age comes many different diseases and illnesses that range from Alzheimer’s to Parkinson’s. So why do people not bat an eye when they see elderly people behind the wheel? Has society come to terms with the fact that if you can pass your drivers license test at any age, you can continue to drive efficiently and safely the rest of your life? While there still are many elderly people who can drive effectively at their old age, the risk of allowing all senior citizens to drive is far too great. In order to ensure the safety of everyone on the streets, anyone over the age of 65 should be required to take a drivers license test based on their mental and physical capabilities.
The biggest problem with drunk driving by young adults is the high rate of traffic accidents. Although young drivers ages 16 through 25 makeup only 15% of U.S. licensed drivers, they constitute 30 percent of all alcohol-related driving fatalities. This is double the amount of licensed drivers in that age group. Inexperience with both drinking and driving may contribute to this disproportionate rate. Nationwide in 1996, people ages 15 to 24 died in fatal motor vehicle crashes and 45 percent of those deaths were a result of alcohol (NHTSA 4). So it comes to no surprise that traffic crashes are the leading cause of death in the United States for people younger than 25 (NCHS 98).
In today’s society, driving is one of the greatest privileges a person can have. This privilege has revolutionized the world with a faster form of transportation. Nevertheless, some people in the world are going to find a way to abuse this privilege. Some drivers transfer their personality into the way they drive. Most drivers can be categorized according to their driving personality: road-rage drivers, overly-cautious drivers, and lawful drivers.

Young drivers have the highest fatal crash risk of any age group. They have the most limited driving experience that often results in risk-taking behind the wheel. The dangerous behaviours, such as speeding, drink driving, fatigue, mobile phone use and not wearing a seatbelt, all contribute to the death and injury of young people today. These alarming statistics can be prevented or at least significantly reduced by adhering to safety measures, making wise lifestyle decisions and eliminating risk factors.
The article Should 16-year-olds drive? written by Ted Gregory, describes that “the front portion of the brain—which includes control of impulses, judgement and decision-making, and the coordination of multi-tasking—matures when 18.” Eighteen is at the beginning of adult life and that is when people grow and develop. According to the possible contributing circumstances listed on crash reports, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation detailed that sixteen year olds are more likely to be reported as “exceeding the speed limit, driving too fast for conditions, failing to yield right-of-way, failing to control, following too close, and driving inattentively.” Sixteen year olds underestimate the dangers of the road. Some people would say that teens now a days are more cautious and aware of dangers of the road due to social media awareness. However, Edgar Snyder, a law firm representing injured people, revealed that 32.8 percent of high school students aged sixteen to seventeen have admitted to texting while driving. Other than the fact that sixteen year olds are not mentally independent, they are also not financially
“The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status, or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we all believe that we are above-average drivers” -Dave Barry, comedian. The number of accidents over the last ten years have drastically increased, drivers are paying less attention to the road itself. Many individuals behind the wheel of a car believe that their driving does not affect the road conditions, however it always will. The driving habits of today are catastrophic due to the reasoning that the driving will affect other lives through reckless or distracted driving, and disobeying traffic laws.
