Christine Gregoire argues that “One of the most powerful tools for empowering individuals and communities is making certain that any individual who wants to receive a quality education can do so.” This quote is important because it is related to the main purpose of this paper, which is the obstacles and equality in the education system in the United States . It shows that everyone need to have the chance of getting a dignified education. Also, giving people the opportunity to education, can be a very good start on turning communities into better places with more educated people. During this semester in class we read different works, which discussed obstacles in the education system in the United States. We read a chapter from the narrative story of Frederick Douglass has written by himself, which discussed the lack of education resources among slaves during the 1800’s. Moreover, we analyzed some chapters from “The Shame of the Nation” by Jonathan Kozol. This book talks about how minorities, such as Blacks and Hispanics, are concentrated in schools where almost all the students are from the same race. Also, the problem discussed in these chapters are the physical conditions and the lack of diversity in schools. Then, we read an article by Sonia Nieto titled “ Social Justice in …show more content…

It is very important for parents to contribute in their kid’s education (Nieto, 2005). The cause to this problem is that some parents believe that it is only the teacher rights to educate their children. Moreover, parents contribution is very important, because the first and best education starts at home.
