The digital culture has clearly changed and impacted the ways of modern life by connecting most of the world’s population through various social outlets. These networks can intertwine creativity, politics, values, advertising, religion, personal connection, and the list can go on and on. In many cases the digital culture has made things easier in terms of communication and interacting socially or for business purposes. Certain platforms such as Facebook and Twitter have evolved from connecting and sharing with personal friends to a multifaceted platform that connects one to the world. Smartphones are great store vast amounts of personal information, games, contacts, and applications. Many people more than likely have a few social network applications, but only a few are held in high regard and that being Twitter and Facebook. Facebook is a social networking website and service where users can post comments, share photographs and links to news or other interesting content on the Web while also playing games, chat live, and even stream live video. Shared content can be made publicly accessible, or it can be shared only among a select group of friends or family, or with a single person (…….). By focusing on the elements of Facebook one can see how convergence plays a major role in its overall function along with interactivity. Facebook is one of those platforms that seems to be accessed 24 hours a day seven days a week. People always seem to be engaged with this network and are constantly finding reason to utilize Facebook for any reason. It use to be a social network site that one had to log into and out of, but now with smartphone devices one can always be “on” in a way by receiving updated and alerts to whatever they want to be altered about. I think Facebook is an great tool to connect with others and share creatively, emotionally, and so on. One can communicate with a long lost friend while listening to their favorite music and reading about the latest gossip within the celebrity world. One may find inspiration through Facebook to teach others or help victims of the latest natural disaster by reading a news article relating to the event. Or one my change their occupation by seeing jobs posted through their Facebook or maybe someone just wants to imitate the newest socialite making headlines from their posts. Either way, one uses Facebook to feel connected with the world around them and interact with people they feel that share this same ideal of digital significance. We are still in the beginning stages of this forever evolving digital culture and I am sure we will witness the next great technological device or new source of new media that will change everything. I feel if things progress in the way they already are we will literally be able to do and see anything and everything within minuets from our mobile devices. We will know and see whatever we want and be connected to whomever we want to socially connect to. I am just waiting for the day when we can actually block people in real life or

Those who do not receive what they lust could feel unwanted or unloved and fall into depression or commit suicide. Facebook is one of the primary place through which cyber bullying occurs. Although cyberbullying is illegal, many still take on the act and cause others pain, which could also lead to the running away of a child or adolescent, depression, or suicide

Although that may have downsides, most people seem to prefer it simply because it is not filtered on what a particular company wants to produce and gives less power to the major media companies that tend to sway people in a particular direction. To come up with a solution to the downside of Facebook comes many great ideas like creating an algorithm to spot unreliable news articles, or creating a community that identifies misinformation for the benefit of everyone else, or creating a human team of journalists and policymakers that judges whether an article is factual.

A person’s life is reflected on Facebook. Because so much of someone’s life is on Facebook, anyone can have a sense of what is going on in their life. This is beneficial for parents away from their children in college or just away from the nest. A visual image is more attractive than reading a lengthy blog about an individual's day. With Facebook someone can post albums at a time and can share a special event that just recently occurred. Instant messaging has improved the speed that users can communicate with each other. If they see that their friend is online all that needs to be done is a message with the word “Hey.” Facebook allows for users to connect with friends time zones away.
In this century our culture is changing rapidly. Just in the last 30 years alone our scientific understanding, technological achievements, and fragmentation of values has transformed faster than in the previous 100 years alone. With our express style culture change, one has to wonder what will be said about our culture another hundred years in the future. What is the one thing that has defined us as who we are? A section on our slow ascent into socialism may be in order, or maybe a chapter on our obsession with going green. However, I would suggest that the first chapter in a humanities book of 2113 on our culture title “The Descent into a Digital Culture”.
Social media is quickly evolving in front of our eyes, and it is almost impossible to reject and hide from this new form of media. Not only is it an important part of socialization within peer groups, but now it is used to market and motivate people to become a part of a larger community. It is undeniably changing the way one communicates and how one finds and shares information. Most websites offer communication through the use of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and many other blog formats. With new apps on smartphones and photography and video made digital, media can be created, edited and shared quickly and once it is in this new digital cloud it is not yours anymore.
The popular site, Facebook.com, has amassed more than one billion registrants since it started in February 2004. It is another social networking site, just like MySpace.com and Xanga.com, which is common to High School and College students. But this is no ordinary site; people’s lives literally revolve around Facebook. I have a Facebook account and log in at least once a day. I personally believe that Facebook is a fun and interactive site. However, some students may not feel that same way because they have encountered some negative aspects, aside from Facebook’s legal problems.
