The Importance of Community Life at Codrington College I Community life at Codrington College is very important. Individuals are better in Therefore, community life is very important, because people are encouraged to live together as a community. Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, once said, “Each of us must rededicate ourselves to serving the common good. We are a community. Our individual Fates are linked; our futures intertwined; and if we act in that knowledge and in that spirit together, as the Bible says: "We can move mountains”. The experience gained in Community life at Codrington changes the way people view and respond to each other. Also, the relationship developed in the community are invigorating. Consequently, the lives of people are changed throughout their spiritual It is said, “as social beings, by nature, there is a need to be around people and learn to interact with each other for the common good of all”. Community life tends to be more supportive especially when one is going through a difficult situation and needs the encouragement, prayer and physical support from another. The building of relationship causes one to become sincerely aware of these needs. At Codrington, individuals are away from their homes and families. This absence can become very difficult and can cause individuals to behave indifferently and become emotionally unstable. Showing unconditional love to these persons can become a source of relief and make the person aware that they are not alone and that they do not need to face their situation in isolation. Thus, because of the daily interaction, they began to build a sense of brotherly/ sisterly trust with each other. Jesus said, “A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another even as I have loved you”. “It’s by this the world will know that you are my disciples.” Sometimes unconditional love has to be shown.
