The Importance Of Children In Foster Care

The word “foster” means to nurture or encourage. When a child gets put into foster care it is because a parent or caregiver is unwilling or not able to properly care for their child by providing them food, shelter, and safety (Libal 17). This might look like a parent not being at home with their kid(s). Kids get put into foster care for reasons like abuse, neglect, or sexual abuse. There are about 428,000 children in foster care by 2016 ( Libal 19). The kids are the ones who have the most impact in this situation. People need to take a stand by helping the kids because when kids are in foster care it is not a easy transition for kids especially when they are a teenager and they know their parent(s).

to leaving their family that is all the kids know and when they get taken they don't know what to do. There are many misunderstandings about reasons for people to be placed in foster care. People always think that it is the kids fault that they got put into foster care but it really is not it is the parents that get them into foster care (Geraldine). This is something that is a big problem almost everyday a child is getting put into foster care around the world. Kids are going to have doubts about their parents getting them back or they might have some insecurities about their parents. Children may be in foster care for a few months, a year, maybe even adopted or age out (Geraldine). This all depends on the situation and all of the thing that the parents need to do. If the parent only needs to do a few classes then once that gets done then the kids are more likely to go back to the parents then a parent that does not do what is asked from them. Kids do not get put into foster care for no reason there is always a reason (Geraldine).
People ask why kids are put into foster care there are a lot of reasons most people don’t even think about like not being home for hours when the children get off the bus. Child abuse is where the parent or another adult is mistreating the child. Child abuse comes in many forms like physical, emotional, and sexual abuse (Tollefson). Child abuse is not just spanking the kid child abuse is doing anything that can physically harm the child. Leaving the child home alone for hours at a time with no parental supervision is child abuse.The most common form is neglect. Neglect is the failure of a parent or caregiver to provide basic needs for a child (Tollefson). If the parent neglects the child that is not being able to give the child stuff like clothes or food stuff they need to live. If a child is left without food for one to say about five days that is neglect.
If a adult or caregiver was abused as a child then the parent or caregiver is more likely to abuse their child (Tollefson). Kids get traumatized by this moving from home to home not being able to see family or talk to them that is scary. They really don't know what to do after they get told that they cannot see their family anymore.
