“Many of the members of DreamWorks Animation creative team believe that this careful balancing act between sophistication and entertainment, reality and imagination, and epic-ness and humor sets Rise of the Guardians apart from anything else they are worked on the careers.” [ Zahed, Ramin. The art of DreamWorks Rise of the guardians, 2012]Those characters are their painstaking cares. I am interested in the relationship between their facial expressions and body movements of those characters. I will also study how the motion capture will work for an animation, as well as the importance of body language.
Facial expression
Facial expression, which is a kind of way of non-verbal communication, is strongly related to the emotion of the characters.

When people are shocked, they may jump, or use hands to cover their mouth with surprised look. In animation, when a character is very happy, he or she way laugh out and run around the place to show his or her emotions.
Body language-- Non-verbal communication
Facial expression and body movements can be included in body language. There are two kinds of communication. One is verbal communication, the other one is non-verbal communication. There are four types of non-verbal communication. They are eye contact, body position, gesture and movement. These four types of non-verbal communication are widely used in animation production. They are even more effective than words at sometimes.
Motion capture technology
Motion capture is the process of recording a live motion event and translating it into usable mathematical terms by tracking a number of key points in space over time and combining them to obtain a single three-dimensional representation of the performance. In the other world, this motion capture technology can translate a live performance to a digital motion. One thing should be mentioned is that the motion capture technology is the technology to collect the motion.[ Menache, Alberto. Understanding motion capture for computer animation and video games. Morgan Kaufmann, 2000.] It refers to the recording of action of human and uses this information to build and animate digital person models in both two dimensional and

North(Santa), Sandy(Sandman), Toothiana(Tooth Fairy) and E. Aster Bunnymund(East Bunny) are the first four guardians in the start of the animation. All these guardians are immortal, powerful and agile. Their task is to do all they can to protect the innocence and imagination of all children, but an unlucky villain emerges called Pitch Black and he intends to snatch the children's hopes and dreams and erase the presence of the guardians. At this point, these favorite heroes need Jack Frost to help them, but this new guardian just likes to play with the snow,no interest to save the children and world. From the deepest concealment of the North Pole, the roof of Shanghai to the mini-town of New England, the guardians carried out a vast war in every corner of the world against villain Pitch Black . His goal is to spread fear everywhere to conquer the world, and the only thing that can stop him is the power to believe and the magic that the guardians have. North, Sandman, Tooth Fairy,East Bunny and Jack Frost finally come together to stop his evil plans. Eventually, they protect those children and their hopes and
The presence of nonverbal messages in our communication is very important. Following the text, researchers have estimated it is up to “65 percent of social meaning we convey in face-to-face interactions is a result of nonverbal behavior” (131). The movie “Mrs. Doubtfire” is a typical example about the interactions among characters, also with audience. Several scenes in this movie show us the effects of nonverbal messages in communication, especially through the character Daniel, who disguises himself as a middle-aged British nanny in order to be near his children.
see the first sign of emotions when "Their face did not move and they did not
While communicating with another human being, one only has to examine the other’s face in order to comprehend what is being said on a much deeper level. It is said that up to 55 percent of a message’s meaning can be derived from facial expression (Subramani, 2010). These facial manipulations allow thoughts to be expressed in ways that are often difficult to articulate verbally, with the face demonstrating “the thoughts of the mind, and the feelings of the heart” (Singla). Many expressions are said to universal, particularly those showing happiness, sadness, fear, anger, disgust, and...
Body language is non-verbal communication where your body reveals unspoken, usually subconscious, feelings and intentions physically. Body language is expressed through eye movements, facial expressions, body postures and gestures. It plays a part in how humans judge you while communicating or first meeting which is what we do when we see a characteristic we wouldn’t tolerate to possess or envy of the person which drives you to find faults within that person. Body language also indicates a persons state of mind; whether they are alert/attentive, bored, interested or nervous. Before language was developed, cavemen and other early ancestors used body gestures to communicate and judge each others body postures and voices to guess what they wanted to get across. Body language reflects who we are. One of the reasons television was so groundbreaking because radio couldn’t display facial expressions and body language. In 1960, Kennedy and Nixon had debates. Nixon was sweating, looking nervous whereas Kennedy wore makeup and looked straight at the camera to show conviction. People listening to the debates on the radio believed Nixon had won and the people watching it on television thought the opposite. After that event, non-verbal communication was taken more seriously.
The face is the reserve of emotion. A smile implies happiness, a frown signifies anger or sadness, and a quick rolling of the eyes indicates someone is annoyed. What one is thinking or feeling can be clearly displayed in one’s facial expressions. Paul Ekman decided to study people’s facial expressions, down to the micro expressions that flash across the face and those are what give one away. He developed the facial action coding system (FACS) after many years of researching how people’s facial expressions reveal their inner emotions (Blink 204). He has even worked with Gottman and his “Love Lab” and the FACS has helped him to predict the longevity of certain relationships. While some people believe that their true feelings are not reflected by their facial expressions, they are unaware that a simple change in emotions is displayed on their face, revealing their true feelings. Emotions simply cannot be hidden, because they are clearly displayed on the face.
One famous pioneer in this area is Ekman (1973 in Shiraev & Levy, 2007, 2004) who classified six basic facial expressions as being universal and reflecting most emotional states. They are happy, sad, anger, disgust, surprised and fearful. Ekman (1973) proposed that the universality of emotions allows individuals to empathise with others and enables us to read other’s feelings therefore emotions must serve an adaptive purpose hence supporting the claim that they are universal (Darwin, 1972 in John, Ype, Poortinga, Marshall & Pierre 2002). Moreover, emotions are widely accepted to accompany...
Verbal communication is the form of communication that the majority of the world uses today it’s expressed in spoken words. Non Verbal can be conveyed with a smile, frown, rolling of the eyes and in some case the wink of an eye. Facial expressions behavior plays a big part in non verbal communication. Our expression will say things to others that we want say out loud. Gestures are another form of non verbal such as pointing, crossing of the arms and clapping of the hands or all gestures that are non verbal. Appearance is often over looked when we think of non verbal communication. When see someone in boots, blue jeans, leather vest, and tattoos we assume that they are a biker that just one example appearance communication. Face to Face is a preferred method that is used to close the deal deals with body language 50%, tone of your voice 40% and your words 10%.
Body language is a very important factor in the communication process, the psychologists started studying this language at the late centuries because it forms a big part of understanding the verbal words; by this way we can explore another people’s real feelings ,meanings and thoughts, It’s also help us to understand ourselves. It is known as “kinesics” pronounced like ”kineesicks”. This kind of language dose not consist a words or alphabets, it is consists of hand movement, facial expression and eye movement.
From the very beginning of the game players are greeted with an impressive display of detail; everything from graphic textures and visuals, to character and sound designs, is implemented in a natural, realistic manner. In fact, some players may never notice that a character’s shirt will take on a distinct wet look while it’s raining, or how a sheen of sweat appears on the forehead after a bout of running. The developer utilizes mundane objects such as newspaper clippings or a bit of spray-paint on an abandoned building, converting would-be backdrop items into an integral part of storytelling. A character’s range of movement is also more natural and organic through the use of motion capture . Body language, such as simply gesticulating during a conversation, serves an important role in providing an added sense of realism and lends itself to t...
Nonverbal communication does not rely on the use of words to convey its meaning. “Nonverbal communication is usually understood as the process of communication through sending and receiving wordless messages. These nonverbal messages can be transmitted by bodily gestures, posture, facial expressions, and eye contact” (Subramani 2010). Nonverbal communication is simply that, communication without words. Nonverbal communication is present everday in our society. It goes hand in hand with verbal communication. It complements and enhances spoken words. According to David McNeill, gestures have two core features: they carry meaning, and are synchronous with speech. He goes on to say, “gesture and speech express the same underlying idea unit but express it in their own ways.”
One of the films most important and groundbreaking technology is the use of motion capture. Motion capture technology has the ability to capture more realistic eye movements. Special reflective markers are placed onto the actors, which are wearing tight suits. Cameras recognize these markers and therefore the movements of the actor can be recorded. The captured data that was recorded is transformed into a digital model and transferred to a 3D software which would show the characters moving exactly how the actors did when they were performing for the scene. The data is cleaned up and animators will bring the character to life, with movement, texture, skeleton and muscles. An advantage that is offered in motion capture is it is more rapid and producing the animate...
Found information states that “nonverbal communication is the process of transporting messages through behaviors, physical characteristics and objects”. Its how and what we use in order to express our feelings and say things. Using symbols is a way of using nonverbal communication. Also nonverbal communication is the way we use body language and gestures too. Nonverbal communication is often used unconsciously. When using the certain communication it can be misinterpreted also. There are many different categories of nonverbal communication. They are the following: Aesthetics, Artifacts, Chronemics, Haptics, Kinesics, Paralanguage, Physical Appearance, Proxemics, and Oculesics.
Non-verbal communication decodes messages using body language and facial expressions. Therefore, non-verbal communication is a type of language as its own that can be used universally. This includes, touching behavior, proximity, eye contact, gestures and many more. Furthermore, non-verbal communication can be misinterpreted as well because people from other countries has different ways of interpreting gesture...
The human face is an effective, important and composite communication medium. While a person speaks, the expressions in the face changes frequently. Those expressions are related to both emotions and the flow of speech. It is noted from the studies that speaking is very important for conveying different expressions. Moreover, many psychologists have found out that facial expressions resemble the emotions and attitudes of different people. Hence, in order to improve the systems to produce effective facial expressions, it is important to understand such a language. Computer facial animation is mainly a part of Computer Graphics that binds techniques and models to produce and animate human face and head. It is also associated with the fields like traditional animation and psychology because of its subject type and productivity.
Good communication is an essentialvalue for successful relationships, whether personal or professional. Many researchers have stated that most of our communication is non-verbal. Non-verbal communication includes body language, facial expressions, gestures, eye contact, posture, and the tone of our voice. The ability to understand and use non-verbal communication is great skills that will help individualsconnect with others, when trying express feelings, handlingdifficultsituations and creating relationships with other in various places.Non-verbal communication is the body way of sending messages between people. These messages can be sent through emotions, gestures, engagement, voice tone, posture, and clothing.
